Electrical characteristics of graphene layers and their use as gas sensors
Kučera, Štěpán ; Kaspar, Pavel (referee) ; Macků, Robert (advisor)
This bachelor thesis focuses on the general characterization and description of graphene and related nanostructures. It involves production by the most used methods, including their advantages and disadvantages. Due to the impossibility of connection in the usual way, the graphene sample had to be contacted under visual inspection with a microscope with the tip contacts in the shielded area. Subsequently, it was subjected to current-voltage characterization with normal conditions on a Keithley 4200-CSC instrument. The next step was to measure the same sample under a different gas atmosphere. The result is a comparison of the specific responses to the change in gas atmosphere in which the graphene monolayer was exposed.
Vliv investic do dálniční infrastruktury na socioekonomické ukazatele vybraného regionu
Kučera, Štěpán
Kučera, Š. The impact of state investments in highway infrastructure on socio-economic indicators of a selected region. Master thesis. Brno: Mendel University in Brno, 2023. The thesis focuses on the identification of the impact of state investments in highway infrastructure on selected socio-economic indicators. The variables examined include unemployment rate, number of companies by number of employees, housing construction and total population growth. The thesis focuses on the assessment of the impact of the implementation of the D1 highway section, which connects the capital city of Prague and the regional city of Hradec Králové. Based on theoretical assumptions, the thesis uses a difference-in-differences method, which is combined with a synthetic control method with panel regression techniques. The empirical analysis focuses on assessing the impact of highway construction on the dynamics of selected socio-economic indicators within the region, which includes six municipalities with extended jurisdiction, and data are examined with an annual frequency from 2002 to 2021. The results suggest that the implementation of highway infrastructure as part of state investment does not automatically confer a competitive advantage and economic growth, as would be expected from initial assumptions.

Czech internet literary criticism
Kučera, Štěpán ; Kraus, Jiří (advisor) ; Klabíková Rábová, Tereza (referee)
This diploma thesis surveys Czech literary criticism on the internet and its relationship towards the printed literary criticism, or generally, the relationship between new and traditional media. I define what "Czech literary criticism on the internet" can mean and describe its situation in 2009. I created an imaginary central line going from the terminal of traditional media to the terminal of new media. I lined the websites from the ones tightly connected to the traditional terminal (e. g. web magazines) to the ones in the purely "net terminal" (e. g. discussion servers). I found important projects there that exist in the periphery of Czech literary life (as reflected by the traditional media). Then I asked members of the web projects to fill in a short questionnaire focused on the literary criticism on the internet and its relationship to the culture of traditional media. Also, I posed the same questions to Czech book publishers as representatives of the traditional culture. I found out that the publishers' relationship towards the new media critics is "slightly optimistic" but at the same time ambivalent and distrustful. On the other hand the survey among members of web projects revealed that for these people the internet publication is as valid as a publication in printed media but still they are aware...
Crisis argumentation during the press conferencies of government by using grice's maxims
Březinová, Markéta ; Šoltys, Otakar (advisor) ; Kučera, Štěpán (referee)
Submitted bachelor thesis focuses on the crisis communication in politics and on Grice's maxims applied there. In its theoretical part the thesis analyses the terms crisis and crisis communication. It sets the criteria on which the recognition of crisis is based, as well as it offers theories on how one should create and use arguments in these particular situations. Besides that, the thesis also evaluates general argumentation skills used by politicians during unfavourable times and compare them with principles Paul Grice defined as the base for successful communication. The theoretical part hence furthermore describes Grice's maxims, as well as it monitors Czech politics in selected period and necessary context. Second part of the thesis uses semiotic analysis to examine press conference speeches of selected politicians during the government crisis in March and April 2012 and searches for Grice's maxims used there. It also notices the use of language and the character reflection in their speech. With all that, the thesis fills in the gap in Czech literature focused on effective crisis communication in politics.
Czech Literary criticism on internet
Kučera, Štěpán ; Kraus, Jiří (advisor) ; Čeňková, Jana (referee)
This rigorous thesis surveys Czech literary criticism on internet and its relationship towards printed literary criticism, or generally, relationship between new and traditional media. I define what "Czech literary criticism on the internet" can mean, and describe its situation in 2009 and 2012. I created an imaginary central line going from the pole of traditional media to the pole of new media and aligned the groups of websites on this scale. I found important projects there that exist in the periphery of Czech literary life (as reflected by the traditional media). Then I asked members of the web projects to fill in a short questionnaire focused on literary criticism on internet and its relationship to the culture of traditional media. Also, I posed the same questions to Czech book publishers as representatives of the traditional culture. In comparison of 2009 and 2012 I found out that the websites connected to the traditional printed culture tend to parish, or on the contrary, transform into professional projects (usually with state financial support). The closer to the pole of new media, the more viable the websites tend to be. I also notices increasing role of social networks, such as Facebook. For some websites these networks have become a welcome platform to address wider audience, while for others...
Comparative analysis of cover pages of magazines Respekt and Reflex in the period of 2009-2010 (textual and semiotic comparison)
Kovářová, Pavla ; Šoltys, Otakar (advisor) ; Kučera, Štěpán (referee)
Bachelor thesis "A comparative analysis of cover pages of magazines Respekt and Reflex in the period of 2009 - 2010 (textual and semiotic comparison)" deals with semiotic analysis of the cover pages of two similar weekly magazines in the same period. Research sample includes five covers of each magazine which shows Czech political figures. The first part of this thesis it describes the theoretical essence of semiotics. The second one is about magazines and theory of cover. In practical part analyses the covers of both magazines with the aim of overall comparison in terms of their communicating intentions, construction of reality and its work with myths and stereotypes. Visual and language codes are studied in terms of denotation, connotation and implied postmodern myths. In the recent media discursus has been interpreting signs and symbols, decoding the hidden meanings and perceptions of the dominant ideology in the construct of reality. Attention is focused on the design of Reflex' photomontage and Respekt's drawing, as well as on composition, colors and using stereotypes. Result of analysis shows a consistent approach of both magazines to the dominant ideology, but a different approach to construct reality and creating the communication plan, which comes just from the way of processing.
Usage of langue stereotypes of female and male communication in contemporarymedia: analysisof gender language instruments on exemple of magazines Cosmopolitan and Esquire
Holubková, Petra ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Kučera, Štěpán (referee)
This thesis discusses the usage of stereotypical ideas concerned the communication of men and women and usage of language tools typical for male and female speech in the language of contemporary media. In theoretical part of thesis, we are trying to connect the knowledge from several sciences to clarify terms like a gender, gender role, stereotype etc. We are trying to prove that there are some differences between male and female language. We are concerned with psychological evolution of human to the maleness and femaleness with regard to cultural and social influences which are forming the identity of human. In the practical part of thesis, we are trying to verify using questionnaire that the popular ideas about male and female speech have stereotypical character. In other point, we are trying to verify that the stereotypical ideas about male and female speech are reflected by contemporary media which are including those ideas in the medial contents. We are using the samples of magazines with male and female themes - Cosmopolitan and Esquire. We would like to demonstrate on these magazines that magazines for men and women are using some of language tools which are using men and women.
