The idelogical sources of Christian democracy in Central Europe in the years 1945-1948.
Kugler, Pavel ; Rychlík, Jan (advisor) ; Šebek, Jaroslav (referee) ; Konečný, Karel (referee)
Christian democracy in Central European countries which found themselves under the influence of the Soviet Union was not given the opportunity to play an important role in the development of the region in a way which was achieved by the Christian democrats after 1945 in the Western part of Europe. A fundamental role in this process was assumed by external conditions, and interventions from the outside became the decisive factor. Nevertheless, despite the relatively short period of time lasting in fact only two years, both identical traits and differences clearly manifested themselves in the understanding of what the guiding idea of a party with this programme delimitation should be. Factors of historical experience, religiousness of the population as well as the economic and social situation influenced the creation of the ideological foundations. Neither can we ignore the fact that, to a certain extent, old prejudices did not cease to exist. Within this context, it is difficult to accept the labelling of the year 1945 as the hour zero, as it has become customary especially in older historiography. For Christian democracy, it was instead to a large extent a gradual and continuous process and a conclusion of efforts which had been regularly appearing already in the previous decades. Despite the limited...

Return to the emigration. The fate of Czechoslovak members of RAF after World War II in Great Britain
Polley, Ivana ; Hlavačka, Milan (advisor) ; Kudrna, Ladislav (referee) ; Konečný, Karel (referee)
The subject-matter of this dissertation paper is the description and analysis of the topic of the post-war fate of certain Czechoslovak pilots in Great Britain in the post-war years. In the introduction to this paper, I outline the atmosphere at the time and the process of integration of western pilots in Czechoslovakia after liberation. The paper at the same time addresses the efforts of the British wives of these pilots to assimilate into Czechoslovak society. The changes in the political circumstances, especially, compelled the RAF pilots to start considering leaving Czechoslovakia again. After February 1948, the persecution of the RAF officers was already evident. Political purges in the armed forces compelled them to leave Czechoslovakia again. The paper typologises the exodus of the RAF pilots abroad into subgroups and for each of these subgroups, it demonstrates the various and clearly very similar fates of the pilots, which are linked by departure to Great Britain, where they served in the RAF during the war. The typology of the exodus differentiates those pilots who remained in Great Britain and did not return to Czechoslovakia after the war and those that left legally and those that left the country illegally and emigrated. To clarify the problems of hijack of aircraft, the form of back...
