The Ostalgie phenomenon and its manifestations in Czech and German television series

Ostalgia is a phenomenon that manifests itself in all areas of human activity - in fashion, culture, music, goods available on the market, or simply in the memories of human beings. This thesis mainly focuses on the cultural level, specifically on television series. The theoretical part is dedicated to collective memory and the culture of remembrance, two aspects that are very closely related to the cultural level. Ostalgic reminiscence often emphasizes material goods, as if the reminiscers were trying to preserve something from a time in which they will never find themselves again - except through memories. Here, I find it interesting to link the phenomenon of ostalgia with the so-called memory of things, defined by Jan Asmann and further analyzed in more depth by anthropologist Arjun Appadurai. By using objects from the times of socialism, people preserved at least part of their earlier lives; memories stored in these objects can be recalled even after several years. The phenomenon of ostalgia will be specifically examined in two Czech and two German television series. The Czech examples are represented by the TV series Vyprávěj and Svět pod hlavou produced by Czech Television. Czechs and Germans in Prague: a competition of associational life at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries

The work is devoted to Czech-German coexistence in Prague, at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. In 1848, the Czechs found themselves in the involuntary role of supporters of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, within which the Czech-speaking population had to live alongside the Germans, who also belonged to the territory. The coexistence of the two nations was unproblematic, rather variable, which was also reflected in the political and social spheres of life. The Czech-German coexistence was important for the development of the associational life. The creation and subsequent competition of these associations are the focus of this thesis. Three Czech institutions which were important for the contemporary cultural and social life and which had an analogous German pair were selected: The National Theatre and the New German Theatre, the Arco Cafe and the Union, and the Deutsches Casino together with the Měšťanská beseda. Their friendly and hostile tendencies and competition between them were examined.

Epigraphic fund of Jablonecko

Dnes již bývalý okres Jablonec nad Nisou, který se rozkládá na ploše 402 km2 , netvořil historicky ani přírodně jednotný celek. Podle přírodních hranic by se dal rozdělit do dvou větších celků - Železnobrodska s Maloskalskem a Jablonecka. Právě z těchto důvodů je úvod této kapitoly rozčleněn také do dvou částí, po kterých následuje výčet dnešních obcí a měst v okrese se stručnými poznámkami a s odkazy na literaturu. Do, reformy veřejné správy v roce 2002 zahrnoval okres celkem 34 obcí. Zřízením vyšších územních celků připadl okres Jablonec nad Nisou pod správu Libereckého kraje. Nápisový fond Jablonecka je dochován torzovitě. Celkově dochované památky na Jablonecku souvisí s přírodními podmínkami okresu. Jedná se o hustě zalesněný pohraniční okres položený ve vyšších polohách a osídlený až v pozdním středověku a hlavně v novověku. Proto se zde nevyskytují žádné významné středověké architektury s výjimkou čtyř hradů - Frýdštejna, Vranova, Zbirohu a Navarova. Také většina církevních staveb pochází z novověku. Zpočátku se jednalo hlavně o dřevěné stavby, které se hlavně v 18. století přestavovaly na kamenné. Nejsou zde žádné honosné sakrální poutní stavby.
