Study of the spent coffee grounds addition on the physico-chemical properties of the soil
Kavková, Kateřina ; Pořízka, Jaromír (referee) ; Diviš, Pavel (advisor)
The aim of this thesis was to conduct a growth experiment of lettuce and corn in soil mixtures containing 2.5% modified (oxidized coffee grounds, defatted coffee grounds, oxidized defatted coffee grounds) or raw coffee grounds and compared these plants to plants that grew in clean soil without treatment. Both growth characteristics and chemical analyzes were studied - elemental analysis, amount of chlorophyll, etc. In germination tests, the effect of coffee grounds toxicity on seeds was demonstrated, except for the mixture with defatted grounds, when the maize seeds did so well in the leachate that they had sprouted leaves as in the mixture alone. The soil after the cultivation of lettuce and after the cultivation of maize was also analyzed and their values were compared with the soil before cultivation. Changes in pH, elemental composition, content of phenolic substances or content of organic matter were monitored.

Kateřina Kavková The aim of this diploma thesis is to create the summary of plants and natural compounds which can cause contact, inhalant or food allergies. Their incidence is documented by case reports, the most of them came from Europe, Asia and America where are these problems solved and science in these regions pays attention to allergies in general. Asteraceae family is the most often cause of allergy (10,8 %) thanks to sesquiterpene lactones, on the second place there is Lamiaceae family (7,2 %) with the content of fragrances and oils. The next position is engaged by families Anacardiaceae and Fabaceae (6 %). In the comparison with previous studies Asteraceae allergy is on the decline, but the number of subject positive to cosmetics and fragrances is increasing. Less amount of articles discuss about propolis and latex sensitivity. Source of allergies can be found in plants and animals as well. Particular case reports describe allergy and its diagnosis, identification of main allergens, therapy of resulting problems and eventually recommend next arrangements including prevention. The tables with complemented information present new pieces of knowledge incorporated to scientific periodics and journals from 2004 till 2009. Kavková, Kateřina ; Tůmová, Lenka (advisor) ; Hrdina, Radomír (referee)
Charles University in Prague Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Pharmacognosy Candidate: Kateřina Kavková Consultant: Doc. PharmDr. Lenka Tůmová, CSc. Title of Thesis: Interactions between drugs, medicinal plants and substances of natural origin This rigorous thesis created overview of herb-drug interactions. Cited literature includes articles published in the journals (British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology), periodicals and internet databases (Web of Science, Science Direct) since April 2007 till June 2010. Of the total 123 medicinal plants the largest amount of interactions was recorded at Hypericum perforatum (30,96 %), Ginkgo biloba (15,48 %), Piper nigrum (9,68 %). Herbs interact mostly with anticoagulants (30,08 %), especially thanks to warfarin; analgetics including antipyretics and NSAIDs (21,95 %); and antidiabetics (18,69 %). In the period 2002 - 2007 the leader interaction position had anticoagulants, too, followed by antihypertensives and acetylsalicyl acid. Interactions can be influenced by interindividual differences, at the test-level there depends on test-sensitivity, concentration of tested drugs and herbs. The number of interactions is increasing. It is neccesary to deal with interactions, increase know-how, reduce mistakes among patients and health-care...
