Relationship of demographic and economic development in Subsahar countries
Havlínová, Jana ; Cahlík, Tomáš (advisor) ; Chytilová, Julie (referee)
This paper deals with the impact of the population growth on the economic performance in the Sub- Saharan countries. This region hasn`t undergone demographic transition and faces high population growth, which is caused by high fertility and relatively low life expectancy. Economic growth is not sufficient enough to deal with this pressure and many countries end up in population traps. The first part of this paper describes the evolution of the population debate since Malthus till the most recent findings and sumarizes key demographic and economics links. Second part analyses demographic development of the region with emphasis on the fertility and mortality. The third part is focused on selected domograpic and economics links. The last part examines economic development of the region on the basis of economic and demographic model and the problem of high population growth is viewed from the broader perspective of development policies. Czechoslovakia and the Nuremberg trials (the Nuremberg trials in the Czechoslovak press)
Havlínová, Jana ; Kvaček, Robert (advisor) ; Randák, Jan (referee)
In my paper "Czechoslovakia and the Nuremberg Trials (the Nuremberg Trials in the Czechoslovak press)" I deal with a formation of the "International Military Tribunal" which was to judge main war criminals who had unleashed the Second World War. It was necessary to inject a new type of criminal responsibility and appoint the criminals. Finally the curt sat for the first time on 20th November 1945. Twenty two war criminals and seven German organizations there accused of four counts of an indictment - conspiracy, crimes against peace, war crimes and crimes against humanity. The huge asset for the Nuremberg Trials had the Czechoslovak delegacy too, because it shared in a formulation of the indictment. The Czechoslovak representatives put a lot of evidence, depositions and documents in the publication called "The Germen crimes against Czechoslovakia". The asset of the lawsuit for the world and Czechoslovakia consists in bringing a warning and edification for the future generations. Furthermore, it laid the principles of the new international legal order and made human life significant again. The trials had a special asset for Czechoslovakia as it confirmed the displacement of the German inhabitants from the Czechoslovak borderland. The Nuremberg Trials was a big press event. The news of the local correspondents...
The transformation of the occupation policy in the administration demain from the summer 1942 to the end 1943
Havlínová, Jana ; Randák, Jan (advisor) ; Gebhart, Jan (referee)
The beginning of the occupation of the Czech Lands was closely linked to a variety of political, economic, and social problems. It was necessary to gain control over all respective administrative structures in order to ensure the smooth function of the state. In the first phases of the occupation, the temporary military administration was established and the basis for the future development of occupational structures was thus laid. An autonomous administration continued to work alongside the two-levelled German administration. Although the German administration was to take care of German citizens' affairs and to watch over the Protectorate authorities, the autonomous one soon began to succumb under the German influence. After some time, it became obvious that the German administration was overgrown and inefficient; that a reform had to be made. A man behind the reform was Reinhard Heydrich, sent to the Protectorate with a special mission to restore order. The number of occupational authorities was supposed to be diminished together with the number of staff, the redundant employees to be commanded to the frontline. This situation was made easier by the fact that the autonomous bodies had already been infiltrated by German officials; therefore there were not many difficulties while taking over them....
Bank subordinated debt and market discipline in Europe
Havlínová, Jana ; Pečená, Magda (advisor) ; Mejstřík, Michal (referee)
This paper attempts to analyze bank subordinated debt (i.e. subordinated debt issued by the banks) from the perspective of its ability to increase market discipline in banking. Doing so, we departure from the prevailing literature in this field in two regards. First, we focus on the European banking sector while majority of the research has been devoted to the US banking. Second, the paper concentrates more on direct market discipline (market control of banks' risk-taking) whereas majority of the current research deals with indirect market discipline (market signalling of bank's financial situation). We empirically test wheather the large European banks were subject to direct market discipline during the period 2001-2006. In the final part, we discuss a proposal designed to increase direct market discipline in Europe and possible costs of this policy. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
