Understanding the Czech Foreign Policy. The Case of the EU Sanctions against the Russian Federation

This thesis examines the decision of the Czech Republic on the adoption of the EU sanctions against Russia over Ukraine. The perception of the Czech Republic and its behaviour is perceived ambiguously. For that reason, qualitative analysis of the decision was conducted in order to arrive at the understanding of the Czech position. The author works with a concept of identity based on Social Constructivist and Foreign Policy Analysis scholarship. It is argued that the elite idealistic identity, which is held by a proportion of Czech politicians and official, can be used as a variable in Czech foreign policy and a tool to enhance the understanding of it. The dominance of the elite idealistic identity is not fixed; therefore, the consequences enabling the identity to prevail are also discussed. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

The mutual elements of the vatican and american foreign policy after the second world war

The victory of Christian democrats in the parliamentary election of 1948 in Italy was made possible by a cooperation between the Holy See and United States during the pre-election campaign. The thesis presents the outcome of research done on American, but especially on Vatican foreign policy. The foreign policy of Pius XII between 1945 and 1950 had three main features. They were support for European integration, relations with certain European states and fight against communism. A stand of the Holy See on these issues is compared to the American one. The outcome of the analysis is that their foreign policies had some aims in common but that it hardly ever led to cooperation. There were some minor examples of cooperation, but there was none as significant as the one in Italy in 1948. Key words: Holy See, Pius XII, foreign policy, USA, communism, integration

European Commission and High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Joint Proposal

Lisbon Treaty introduced a new office - High representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, who shall become the face of European union's foreign policy. One of the tools High representative can use is European Commission and High representative joint act. There are several types of joint act. All the joint acts submitted between 2010 and 2015 were analysed. The outcome is that most of them have been accepted by the Council of the European Union. One particular type of joint acts, joint proposal for a council regulation, is required for the EU to be able to impose sanctions on a third party. The author analysed deeply two specific proposals for a council regulation concerning restrictive measures in view of the situation in Syria. As the result, it appears that during decision making process within the Council of the European Union individual states have a preference for their own national interests over reaching a general agreement and even over compliance with policies previously agreed. Relationship between Polish Government-in-exile and British War Cabinet in early years of the Second World War

This thesis analyzes the development of the Polish government in exile, its activities and its relations with Great Britain since the outbreak of the Second World War to the death of General Sikorski's fourth July 1943. It is chronologically divided into chapters that are logically divided according to the circumstances that influenced the Polish Government (place of residence, new allies, etc.). By studying of literature and sources the author came to the appreciation of the work as not very successful. Internal divisions of Poles slowly weakened them and death of General Sikorski, the Prime Minister even accelerated their decline. The intensity of the relationship with Great Britain gradually declined, until after the Soviet Union went into the war on the Western allies side and the death of General Sikorski moved the intensity to a minimum. Work is the first Czech look at the issue of the British-Polish relations during the Second World War. Keywords polish government-in-exile, World War II, british war cabine
