The thesis focuses on the topic of homegrown terrorism in the United States in the time period between the years 2001 and 2015. In the case of the right-wing terorrism the thesis also fo- cuses on the main types of right-wing extremism, which are based on racist, fundamental and anti-government ideology. The thesis also analyses the main terror attacks and plots from both jihadist and right-wing side, which were executed between the years 2001-2015. The final chapter of the thesis focuses on statistic data and it's analysis, which results into a comparison of the lethality and dangerousness of the two main types of homegrown terrorism, the creation of a profile of an average homegrown terrorist and overall analysis of the statistic data. Keywords domestic terrorism, homegrown terrorism, USA, right-wing extremism, muslim extre- mism, jihadist extremism,...

This paper focuses on the topic of the "War on Drugs" during Reagan administration. Its main objective is to compare goals set by the Reagan administration in the "War on Drugs" in the 1980s with their consequences and analyze the means that were used to fulfill these goals, which were set for domestic "War on Drugs" and introduce its "side effects" in the socio-economic sphere as well as to determine, whether goals set by Reagan administration were fullfilled or not. By comparing the goals set by Reagan's administration in 1986 and the analyzed results of Reagan's "War on Drugs" in late 1980s I determined the success of Reagan's "War on Drugs". However it is undeniable that applied solutions had major negative impact on racial minorities. Keywords: Reagan, drugs, american society, 1980s, domestic politics, War on Drugs

How did succeed the proposed drug policy change by Barack Obama
Štěpař, Roman ; Kozák, Kryštof (advisor) ; Divišová, Kristýna (referee)
The topic of my bachelor thesis deals with the transformation of American drug policy during Barack Obama's administration and the subsequent evaluation of its success. The aim of my work is to describe changes in drug policy over the past seven years and to objectively assess whether they are in line with Obama's original intention in 2010. I decided to evaluate Obama's strategy on the basis of two criteria. Whether the White House has succeeded in pushing for changes in drug policy, and whether this change has produced the expected results. President Obama has placed great emphasis on changing the approach to tackling drugs from harsh repression to prevention and remediation. Drug addiction has begun to be understood as a mental illness, not as a crime. With Obamacare, drug addicts are able to find free professional help. In addition, support programs for local communities have been launched to prevent the spread of the drug problem among youth. But this change in drug policy has not led to such results which the Obama administration hoped. The number of drug users has increased. For the first time in the history of the United States, more people died of drugs than shooting. Over the past three years, the epidemic of opioids has also risen and Obama failed to deal with it. Success of his strategy...

Minutemen: New Racism on the U.S.-Mexican Border?
Divišová, Kristýna ; Kozák, Kryštof (advisor) ; Fiřtová, Magdalena (referee)
This study has for its goal to examine whether a new racist prejudice against Mexican illegal immigrants was driving the activities of the minutemen movement operating along the U.S.- Mexico border whose stated goal was to prevent illegal immigrants from entering the country. This work assumes that the old blatant racism is no longer acceptable within society but was replaced by a conspicuously color-blind rhetoric, typical of the minutemen movement, that might harbor a new racist prejudice. New racism does not put forth a race defined biologically but understands the white and non-white races conceptually. It thus contributes to the maintenance of the white-black dichotomy within society and more importantly to the discrimination and exclusion of the non-white races. In order to disclose a possible racist prejudice, this study conducts a Critical Discourse Analysis of the minutemen's discourse. Results of this analysis show that especially the focus on the notion of law and order, so typical of the discourse, is hugely misleading and that under this seemingly color-blind reasoning, there is, indeed, a hidden expression of the new racist prejudice.
Securitization of Immigration in Arizona
Divišová, Kristýna ; Kozák, Kryštof (advisor) ; Raška, Francis (referee)
This bachelor thesis explored whether the (Hispanic) immigration issue in Arizona in 2010 was securitized - defined as an existential threat with regard to the Arizonan or American society and therefore their identity. The thesis was based on the assumption that conditions for the securitization could work well in a state with high number of illegal border crossings and where Hispanic minority constitute 30 % of the population. Analysis of speeches of political actors and op-ed section in Arizona Daily Star has not proven this hypothesis. The illegal immigration, however, was sometimes understood as a weak existential threat - mainly within the GOP. This issue was more often politicized as the allocation of more resources was demanded for tackling the illegal immigration. Democrats and Arizona Daily Star, on the other hand, took more neutral stance or sometimes even de-securitized the (illegal) immigration. A considerable support for the law SB 1070 from the part of both Arizonans and Americans was explained more as a result of frustration over the inaction of the federal government than as a will to securitize immigration that they in general favor. Since the immigration, overwhelmingly Hispanic, is not securitized, the ethnic component do not seem to be understood as a key part of the...
