The Influence of Temperature on the Uniaxial Compressive Strength of Rocks
Brabec, Marek ; Šimáček, Roman
This study focuses on determination of the temperature effect on uniaxial compressive strength of different rock types. For our laboratory tests, we chose local greywacke from the Kobeřice quarry which is situated 10 km south of Prostějov. For comparison, datasets representing other rock types have been gathered from the literature cited. As shown in this study, the rock type structure, composition or the processes that formed the rock can influence how the compressive strength changes across the temperature range. Results of similar analyses can be utilized during the design of underground constructions or for assessment of the fire damage on a rock-based constructions.
Analysis of Contemporary Investment Choices of Individuals Through the Joint Life Insurance in the CR.
Vystrčil, Martin ; BRABEC, Marek (referee) ; Rejnuš, Oldřich (advisor)
This bachelor thesis is focused on the joint life instance in Czech republic and deals with investment choises of individuals throught these products. There are analyzed products of 3 insurance companies on the Czech market, according to selected parametres. It includes recommendations for potential clients to choose the appropriate life insurance.
Mechanical properties of granitoid rocks of the Moldanubian batholith in the context of a planned deep underground radioactive waste repository
Brabec, Marek ; Horák, Vladislav (referee) ; Krmíček, Lukáš (advisor)
The author of this bachelor thesis carried out a study of the mechanical and physical properties of granites exposed both on Čeřínek hill, which represents the central part of the delineated polygon of the Hrádek site, and in the nearby active Rácov quarry near the village of Růžená. In the theoretical part of the thesis the author describes the geology of the investigated site and the methods used to determine the investigated properties. In the practical part of the thesis the results and outputs obtained from the measurements are mentioned and discused. The practical part of the thesis presents and discuses the results and outputs obtained from field and laboratory measurements.
The effect of temperature on the mechanical properties of greywacke
Brabec, Marek ; Horák, Vladislav (referee) ; Krmíček, Lukáš (advisor)
The author of this master's thesis studied the influence of high temperatures on Lower Carboniferous greywacke sampled in the Kobeřice quarry near Prostějov. Two sets of cylindrical bodies were produced, made of fine and relatively coarse-grained greywacke. The samples were then fired at temperatures up to 1200 °C. Thermally altered samples were then studied in laboratory using rock mechanics and petrography methods. Results of the study were then carefully interpreted to determine relations between the rock parameters, structural changes and the firing temperature. The master's thesis also contains a brief insight into rock thermomechanics, necessary theoretical background to the used methods and geological context of the Drahany Upland, where the samples of the tested greywacke were taken.
Estimates of covariances for estimated concentration field
Brabec, Marek ; Malý, Marek ; Malá, Ivana
Developing estimation of relevant covariance matrix entries for the spatial model as a necessary part for computing pointwise standard errors (as formalizations of local uncertainty for the gridded estimates). They, in turn are precursors for optimization algorithms aimed at measurement network design problems (location of added and/or deleted measurement points).
DC 5.3 Fundamental large scale statistical model
Brabec, Marek ; Malý, Marek ; Malá, I. ; Hladká, Adéla
This document describes suite of fundamental large-scale statistical models developed from data provided by CHMI (Czech Hydrometeorological Institute). The models were constructed in several variants, differing in complexity, detail and computational demands. Spatial models will be, after some further developments and modifications (necessary not only from the natural model evolution but also due to systematic changes brought e.g. by covid outbreak influences) used as the main input for optimization algorithms constructed for selection of measurement stations on the principles of statistical design theory and methods.
