Guiding a Path Tracer with Local Radiance Estimates
Berger, Martin ; Wilkie, Alexander (advisor) ; Křivánek, Jaroslav (referee)
Path tracing is a basic, statistically unbiased method for calculating the global illumination in 3D scenes. For practical purposes, the algorithm is too slow, so it is used mainly for theoretical purposes or as a base for more advanced algorithms. This thesis explores the possibility of improving this algorithm by augmenting the sampling part, which computes outgoing directions during ray traversal through the scene. This optimization is accomplished by creating a special data structure in a preprocess step, which describes approximate light distribution in the scene and which then aids the sampling process. The presented algorithm is implemented in the PBRT library.
Comparison of the roles of minorities in the process of transition and democratic consolidation in Bulgaria, Romania and Slovakia
Berger, Martin ; Mlejnek, Josef (advisor) ; Hnízdo, Bořivoj (referee)
The subject of this diploma thesis is a comparison of the roles of minorities during the transition process and democratic consolidation in Bulgaria, Romania and Slovakia. The study analyses the influence and participation of the minorities in the democratic transition and their engagement in the new democratic system. We also focus on the question whether the new established systems made the position of the minorities more complicated. In the first chapter, we describe the problems of transitology and analyse approaches to the consolidation by S. P. Huntington, J. J. Linz and A. Stepan and W. Merkel. In the next part, we focus on Bulgaria. We describe the situation of minorities before 1989, the transition process in the country and the resulting engagement of the minorities in legislative and executive institutions. The third chapter deals with Romania and also examines the situation of minorities, the transition process and the influence of the minorities or their participation in democratic system. The fourth section focuses on Slovakia. We analyse the situation of minoritites before democratic changes and describe the transition and the integration of the minorities and their attitudes in the new regime. In the last part of the study, we summarize and compare the findings from the preceding chapters...
Real-time Fur Rendering
Berger, Martin ; Kmoch, Petr (advisor) ; Sloup, Jaroslav (referee)
Rendering of fur is an important area of computer graphics, because visually convincing fur is essential for realism of games and computer generated imagery. This thesis presents a novel technique for fur rendering based on a previously published method for grass rendering. The technique works by tracing a ray at each pixel through the fur volume with implicitly de ned slices mapped with fur texture. A detailed analysis with performace tests, comparison with another state-of-the-art technique, and evaluation of applicability is presented along with a demonstration program.

Educational system in France and in the Czech Republic
Berger, Martin ; Machleidtová, Silva (advisor) ; Klinka, Tomáš (referee)
1 Summary In the Thesis the author engages is contemporary education which has significantly changed in the last decade. Since the system evolves ceaselessly, he only displays a certain part of its evolution. The author, who is a French Language and Literature student at the Faculty of Education of Charles University, seeks to outline contemporary French educational system on the basis of its juxtaposition with Czech system. In the first chapter he concerns the International Standard Classification of Education ISCED (the French abbreviation is CITE) as a common basis for the systems' comparison. He justifies its use and describes its purpose. He also mentions its history, structure, and uses it in the following chapters as a foundation for definition of individual educational degrees. In the subsequent chapters he focuses on particular schooling stages proceeding from nursery schools to higher secondary education. To maintain a coherent structure of the study, he describes similar criteria and aspects for each of the schooling degrees, such as structure, organisation, students' admission criteria, their certification, evaluation and the content of education. As far as structure is concerned, he focuses on children's age established for each stage and mainly on its organisation. In the part dealing with...
