Focused on Africa : the Czech news coverage
Bahounková, Petra ; Trampota, Tomáš (advisor) ; Nečas, Vlastimil (referee)
My dissertation "Focused on Africa: the Czech TV news coverage" tries to describe how the Czech TV news programs reflect the African events. Contents of the current international news coverage are influenced by many factors: the application of news values, impact of globalization processes, the countries' position in the global state hierarchy as well as the contextual factors of the mentioned countries. As early as 1922, Walter Lippmann said that the news media are windows into a wide world lying beyond our immediate experience. These particular windows define our cognitive world map. His words still apply - even almost a hundred years later. News media help their recipients to make their own view of places they do not know personally. Africa has traditionally been perceived as a continent stigmatized by famine, AIDS, civil wars, humanitarian crises or economic problems. That's why I'm trying to capture the way in which Czech TV news programs inform about African events - which topics they prefer and which African countries they are focusing on in their news programs. I'm trying to find an answer whether Czech news media contribute to the above mentioned perceiving of the African continent.
The moderator's function in TV news programs, the criterions of his evaluation ...
Bahounková, Petra ; Šmíd, Milan (advisor) ; Moravec, Václav (referee)
The spectators incline to judge the whole medium by news broadcast because of its importance . Reporting has privileged status in program structure of almost every TV station. The main reporting broadcast is groundwork of station's program quotation . Contrary to the another programs which depend on age, gender, taste, education, interest and other subjective and objective factors of the specific watcher, the reporting is the genre, that speaks to the widest spectrum of the audience (with exception of the children). This is the reason why the public presentation of the reporting moderator's is so important. Work of the whole editorial team is presented by moderator's appearance. His performance can influence how the watcher accepts the information. A main function of the moderator is to establish contact with the viewer and to keep his attention while watching the news. Moderator becomes the watcher's companion, he explains him unknown expressions and creates the connections between the information. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
