Eating disorders

The bachelor thesis introduces the issue of eating disorders. Interdisciplinary approach makes the effort to form a coherent view on the issue in the context of medical, psychological and sociocultural primarily. The first part focuses on the classification of eating disorders to the system of the classification of diseases in order to explain their concept in medicine. Further independently analyzes diseases during childhood. Biological and psychological context of work briefly describes the risk factors. The second part focuses on the sociocultural factors influencing the emergence of eating disorders and explains some of the terms associated with them. It also deals with their history, which reviews from antiquity to the 20th century. An evolutionary perspective is also used, which depicts the possibility that contributes to the preferences of the slenderness based on environment. Bachelor thesis in this section essentially illustrates the influence of Western culture, which is still expanding. Almost the whole world is influenced by Western values, as well as areas where it is not expected. The work shows these facts in several studies. Self perception, body image and quality of life in overweight and obesity children aged ten to twelve

The thesis deal with self -perception, body image and quality of life of children suffering from overweight and obesity. The age of children ranges from 10 to 12. In theoretical part thesis deals with definition of the children obesity. The research is of quantitative character and uses several questionnaire methods. For self-perception has been chosen Self-perception profile for children inventory, for quality of life Pediatric quality of life inventory and for Body image Child Figure Scale. The dates were obtained in primary schools, health resorts and sanatorium all over the Czech Republic. In the research participated 211 children (117 girls and 94 boys). On the basis of percentile BMI the children were divided into clinical (N=50) and nonclinical (N=161). We statistically have analysed questionnaire results and we have done the comparison between clinical and nonclinical group. It has been ascertained that the children who suffer from overweight and obesity achieve in all the tests lower average scores than the children with the normal weight. Self-perception, body image and quality of life of children with overweight and obesity is lower than children with the normal weight.
