The everyday reality of the czech participants of the First World War
Bubeník, Daniel ; Himl, Pavel (advisor) ; Šedivý, Ivan (referee)
In my diploma thesis I make an effort to reconstruct the everyday reality of the Czech participants of the First World War, actually their subjective perception of this everyday reality, especially by analyzing the letters of the field post. The field post is one of the sources of the historical-anthropological research, which is created by the participants themselves. The letters of the field post are the valuable source of information.
The national trial with Radola Gajda 1947. A case study
Král, Martin ; Gebhart, Jan (referee) ; Šedivý, Ivan (advisor)
The topic of the study is the case of Radola Gajda, a former legionary and Czechoslovak general, before the National Court in 1947. After a short presentation of Radola Gajda, the study deals with his activity during the Second Czechoslovak Republic and the Protectorate. It outlines the origins of retributive justice, but it mostly focuses on Gajda's case. I have raised questions relating to the objectivity of the court, the way of its approach to the accused person and the possibility of interference in the judge's impartiality. I have also done some research into the way how the party press informed about this case. I have discovered that in 1947 Radola Gajda was no longer a politically important person, and I did not manage to find any significant interference into the investigation and the law case. The court gave equal space both to the defence and the plaintiff, and it sensibly assessed the evidence of both parties. The press of the individual political parties informed about the trial in a very brief way, and left-wing dailies in particular were more likely to present information aimed against the accused.
The Czechoslovak security organs and their fight against the Hungarian irredentism 1918-1930
Lukeš, Michal ; Rychlík, Jan (advisor) ; Šedivý, Ivan (referee) ; Čaplovič, Miroslav (referee)
The dissertation thesis deals with the relations between Czechoslovakia and Hungary in the period between the two world wars, with special attention being given to the first decade after the year 1918. Czechoslovakia, which was formed in a part of the historical Hungarian territory, was perceived by Hungary as an enemy state and the Hungarian policy and activities were concentrated during the whole existence of the Czechoslovak Republic upon the return of the lost territories, particularly Slovakia. Thus, Hungary became a permanent threat to the existence of Czechoslovakia. It was necessary to defend oneself against this threat and to prevent it. The Czechoslovak security organs, the intelligence service, the police and the army regarded the matter of this danger from Hungary as very real and serious. The thesis deals primarily with the establishment and organization of Czechoslovak security organs and their activities against Hungary, and it describes the information they had available at that time. A substantial part of the thesis is devoted to the efforts of Hungarian secret service to infiltrate into the Slovak autonomist movement and to disturb the Czech-Slovak relations in an effort to destroy the co-existence of Czechs and Slovaks and thus to threaten the integrity of the republic.
