Contribution to the investigation of macro-stylistic shifts, as exemplified by the Czech translation of M. Stavaric's novel
Žáková, Radka ; Špirk, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Mračková Vavroušová, Petra (referee)
1 ABSTRACT The goal of this diploma thesis is a complex analysis of the translation of the novel stillborn written by Michael Stavarič, translated into Czech by Radka Denemarková as Mrtvorozená Eliška Frankensteinová. The theoretical part presents the concept of translation norms (a starting point for reconstructing the translation method chosen), Skopos theory, the theory of metatexts, phenomena pertaining to self-translation (the new concept of "self-non-translation", i.e. the decision of an author-translator not to translate their own work) and Popovič's (1975, 1983) "typology of stylistic shifts and changes in translation" as a basic tool for the subsequent micro-textual contrastive analysis of selected parts of the translation. In the empirical part, the author and his work are briefly introduced, the thesis then provides a narratological analysis of the original; in the following part the translator and her work are introduced. This is followed by a description of the translation's reception in the Czech cultural environment based on an analysis of the available literary reviews ("epitexts") of the translation; these results are compared with the results of the analysis of the German literary reviews of the original. Additional information came from interviews with the author and the translator. A...
"I recommend its publication": A Portrait of Czech Fiction in the GDR in the 1970s and 1980s.
Kultová, Petra ; Špirk, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Mračková Vavroušová, Petra (referee)
This thesis deals with the translations of Czech prose published in the 1970s and 1980s by Volk und Welt, the second largest publishing house in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). Using the publisher's and other paratexts, the empirical research aims to reconstruct the image of Czech literature that Volk und Welt helped to create. The issue under scrutiny draws methodological as well as theoretical inspiration from Anton Popovič, the Slovak translation scholar who inter alia postulated a theory of metatexts, André Lefevere and the Manipulation School, as well as Gérard Genette, who came up with a theory of paratexts. The publishing activities of Volk und Welt are painted against a broad political and cultural background. By analysing the publisher's reviews, required for the books to be approved for circulation in the GDR, as well as by dissecting other paratexts, the author uncovers strategies whereby the selected books of Czech literature found their way both to the reviewers and the general public.

This master's thesis deals with interpreter's self-training. The aim of this theoretical-empirical study is to give an overview of the interpreting students' attitude towards interpreter's self- training as well as of the techniques students use when they perform their self-training. Another aim is to describe the role of teachers in interpreter's self-training, i.e. to what extent they motivate and support their students when it comes to self-training. The research part of the study was conducted at the Institute of Translation Studies, Charles University, and at the Department of Translation Studies, University of Graz, with the aim to compare the situation at those two institutes taking into account the abovementioned criteria. The theoretical part of the thesis discusses interpreter's self-training in the context of deliberate practice and focuses also on group practice as well as on the teachers' role. It also presents methods, techniques and e-learning tools which students may find useful during their self-training. The empirical part consists of an analysis of the data collected by means of questionnaires at the abovementioned institutes. Collected data suggest that both institutes support students' self-training, be it to different extents, and offer them all the necessary tools and...

Selected characteristics of the mobility for children aged 13 and 15 years
MRÁČKOVÁ, Petra
The aim of the diploma thesis is to evaluate the mobility of the spine, the condition of flaton and the basic anthropological characteristics of boys and girls aged 13 and 15 years. Testing will be performed with non-invasive, standard tests and tests used in anthropological and medical practice. The data will be compared with the results of previous research. From the measured values, basic somatic dimensions, such as body weight, body height, circumference of right arm and head, were selected. The body mass index was calculated from body weight and height values. The diploma thesis deals with the assessment of the mobility of spine and flats. The Stibor test, Otto's test, Schober's test, the Cepoj test, the lateroflex test, and the modified Thomayer test were selected from the tests that evaluated the spine. In spine functional tests, the most interesting results of the Čepoj symptom are that the average values of cervical spine mobility deteriorate with the increasing age of boys. In the lateroflex tests, 13-year-old girls and 15-year-old boys beat the best average values. Additionally, these boys had the worst results in Stibor and Schrober's flag when deflected, but paradoxically achieved the best average values. The findings were compared with the results of previous research.

Mračková, Petra ; Neudörflová, Jana (advisor) ; Slabyhoudová, Barbora (referee)
My Bachelor's thesis work discusses cultural activities of visually impaired people. My work has to offer explanation to questions, which sighted person can pose with connection of cultural activities of visually impaired people or to questions, which visually impaired person can pose to himself - can visually impaired person create, can feel an art, does need art for his life? We cannot hear and read much often about haptic exhibitions and visually impaired person is not seen much often at common exhibitions. I consider about this problem in my work. I can claim partial evaluation of situation that refers an offer of cultural activities of visually impaired people. Cultural activities has according to my opinion an inconsiderable effect to handicapped people and are very important for them. From all those findings appears discovery about need of person to create and picture. Visually impaired people has the same needs and their creativy, need not to be affected with visual deffect. And need not to be restricted, if we offer an involvement to different kinds of cultural activities and make an accessible art with the help of modern technical instuments and sensitively creation of cultural and educational programs. Summary: Main thema of this bachelor's essay was stress de-tension of the patient efore surgery. This thema is above all particularly elaborate in two main parts, respectively theoretical and empirical. There is definition and clarification of term stress in the theoretical part together with using of special medical literature. There is also pointed to factors evoking and causing stress. This essay furthermore points to the relation between stress and pain at the patient,as the same as between stress and not enough communication to the patient before surgery. Next, there are described possibilities of pain treatment. Theoretical part contents also description of hospital surrounding and its influence to stressogenesis at the patient. In fine of theoretical part there are brought managing strategie, which could detend stress of the patient before surgery. In the empirical part, I have tried to find out by quantitative research the most frequent factors and continuities matched to stress at the patient before surgery. The research file was content from patiens of different age groups and different diagnosis, whose were hospitalizated in Masaryk Hospital in Ústí nad Labem.
Motoric efficiency and somatic features of men
MRÁČKOVÁ, Petra
The aim of this bachelor thesis was to detect physical proportions, composition and motoric efficiency of men aged 25 to 35 years. From the measured data, there were selected basic somatic features e.g. body height, body weight and peripheral proportions, from which the circumferences of waist, hips, arm, forearm, thigh and calf were selected. Using the device Bodystat?1500MDD, body composition of investigated subjects was detected, from which BMI, body fat, active body mass were selected. This bachelor thesis deals with Ruffier test and dynamometry as well. A questionnaire thanks to which the sports activities in men's leisure time have been found out, is also part of the thesis. The detected data were compared to results of previous research studies. In most cases, the measured data of body proportions of men found as a result of the research are higher than measured data of the previous research studies.
The role of radio-diagnostic department in investigation of polytraumas
MRÁČKOVÁ, Petra
Theme of this bachelor theses is the role of radio-diagnostic department in investigation of polytraumas. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the characteristics of multiple traumas and trauma care that is provided in a specialized departments for the facility of multiple trauma, in traumacentres. Obligatory conditions that the traumacenters must meet to be granted the status of traumacanter are in this thesis mentioned. Another part of the theoretical part is focused to diagnostic imaging methods, specifically mentioned examination by X-ray, computer tomography, magnetic resonance, ultrasound and angiography examination. The aim of the thesis is to analyze the number of patients with polytrauma and see what radiodiagnostic examinations for these patients was performed in the hospital České Budějovice, a.s. The hypotheses of this bachelor thesis are formulated as follows: Number of patients with polytrauma is growing. Most were done CT examinations during investigation of polytrauma. The practical part provides information of the number of polytrauma, the division of patients by gender, age rating in three designated groups and radiodiagnostic tests that these patients was performed in a hospital České Budějovice, a.s. in 2011-2013. Data collection was performed at the radiology department at the hospital in České Budějovice from the electronic patient database. In the chapter "Results" was acquired data processed in graphs. These graphs are described in the next section "Discussion". They were completed by my own beliefs, thoughts and opinions. The results mentioned in the practical part of the thesis show that the objective has been achieved. From the polytrauma database implies that the first set hypothesis the number of patients with polytrauma is growing, wasn´t confirmed because in 2013 it was registered less patients with polytrauma than in 2011 and 2012. On the other hand, the investigation revealed that the second set hypothesis, assuming that in multiple injuries examination was used computer tomography mostly was confirmed. Computed tomography was used during examination of all patients with polytrauma registered in Hospital České Budějovice, a.s. in the mentioned period. In the chapter "Conclusion" the results are summarized. The purpose of this thesis was to prepare clear text dealing with the use of radiodiagnostic imaging methods in the examination of patients with polytrauma. Results of this work can serve as a statistical material of radiodiagnostic examination of multiple traumas to the radiology department at the hospital in České Budějovice. The theoretical part of the thesis can be used as teaching or informational materials for professionals.
