Air Pollution and its health effects

This paper gives an up to date review of the health risks and complains of air pollution with focus on selected studies done in Norway and in Czech Republic on the topic. Air pollution consists of many different components including particulate matter, nitrogen dioxide and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH). It is well known that with rapid industrialization, urbanization and migration, particularly in the developing world, there is a general deterioration of environmental conditions. In addition to inadequate housing, sanitation, poor water supply and malnutrition populations have been exposed to raising levels of air pollution. Despite the vast improvements in health globally over the past several decades, environmental factors remain a major cause of sickness and death in many regions of the world. The health effects caused by air pollutants may range from subtle biochemical and physiological changes to difficulty in breathing, wheezing, coughing and aggravation of existing respiratory and cardiac conditions. These effects can result in increased medication use, increased doctor or emergency room visits, more hospital admissions and premature death. The human health effects of poor air quality are far reaching, but principally affect the body's respiratory system and the cardiovascular system....

The present situation of public libraries in the region of Central Bohemia

Diplomová práce pojednává o stavu veřejného knihovnictví ve Středočeském kraji. Cílem práce je podat přehled o současném stavu veřejných knihoven Středočeského kraje, o změnách kterými prošly a o způsobu jak na ně reagovaly. Součástí práce jsou informace o zásadním dokumentu, který ovlivňuje fungování veřejných knihoven ve Středočeském kraji, Koncepci podpory knihoven z rozpočtu Středočeského kraje. Statistické údaje o veřejných knihovnách celého Středočeského kraje jsou zpracovány za časové období 2001-2006. V analýze jednotlivých knihoven je převážně zohledňováno časové období posledních dvou let. Práce si všímá i důležitého aspektu, kterým je pohled na knihovny z hlediska jejich financování, především regionálních funkcí. Dále se zabývá jejich knihovním fondem, výpůjčkami, činnostmi pro výraznější propagaci a lepší komunikaci s uživateli. Součástí práce je také zhodnocení perspektiv vývoje veřejného knihovnictví ve Středočeském kraji. Snaží se o současný celkový obraz veřejného knihovnictví Středočeského kraje. Práce je zpracována z dostupných zdrojů a na základě dílčích průzkumů.

Czechoslovak librarianship education in 1918-1945

Tématem bakalárské práce je vývoj knihovnického školství v Ceskoslovensku v letech 1918-1945. V úvodní cásti je nastínen vývoj školství pred rokem 1918 u nás i ve svete, nebot situace v odborném školství na nej úzce navazovala. Následuje strucný výcet a popis všech typu knihovnického vzdelání- knihovnické kurzy, knihovnické školy a kurzy na vysoké škole. Zmíneni jsou také dve osobnosti ceského knihovnictví, které se zabývali knihovnickým školstvím- Ladislav Jan Živný a Zdenek Václav Tobolka. Poslední kapitola je venována situaci po roce 1945, která byla silne ovlivnena vývojem pred II.svetovou válkou.

The Influence of Autism on the Siblings of Children with Autism

This work deals with the families of children with disorders of the autistic spectrum, focusing on their siblings. The fírst part outlines the theoretical data concerning this issue. This part principally focuses on the issue of the families of children with autism, how it affects them, and the diffículties that can arise when there is a child with autism in a family. Another topič examined is the presence of other children in the family and the effect a sibling with autism has on them, including the professional or non-professional means of assisting these children or of overcoming any diffículties. The research part presents the results of the investigations. In order to achieve the aims of this thesis the author has used a combination of a quantative and qualitative approach - specifícally interviews with siblings, questionnaire surveys and monitoring. The families involved in the research are first briefly presented, followed the opinions of parents on the theme of the other children in the family, sibling relationships and the associated worries and desires. The main part focuses on a description of the most important aspects affecting the siblings of a child with autism. The finál part then describes the currently available means of helping the siblings of children with autism in the Czech Republic

Educational and Employment Opportunities for Adolescents and Adults with Mental Disabilities

I dedicated my diploma work called "Perspectives in education and employment of mental disabled people" to rising interest of the whole society in the rights of not only mental disabled people, which is demonstrating in the Czech legislature as well. I come out from international documents about rights of disabled people, some of them were accepted by the Czech Republic. I also mention the main laws about education and employment of disabled people. The text is complemented with three interviews with people involved in this topic and my own experience of personal assistant in supported employment. The main objective of my diploma work is to point out the importace of rights of disabled people, their advancing and applying in common life to let each individual live a good quality and meaningful life at the background of the wider community.

Gynecology malignancy screening and prevention

Throughout this discussion different aspects of screening and preventing cervical cancer were considered. Screening, in terms of the methods used, comparing them and also including innovative methods such as LBC. The use use of screening in Czech Republic and Mauritius and how it can affect the prevalence and mortality rate. At this primary stage of the screening programme in both countries, changes will take some time to be seen. So, at this point it is not possible to provide an exact analysis of the benefits of screening according to the prevalence of cervical cancers. In other countries, screening and prevention methods has already proven to be effective. As discussed in the prevention part of this thesis; to assure that a decrease in prevalence and mortality are seen, a systematic programme supported by policies should be in place. These policies then can be applied by medical professionals in their duties together with the education of the presenting women.

Viral hepatitis in children and their prevention

In my graduation theses "Viral hepatitis in children and their prevention" I put mind to the most frequent viral hepatitis in the Czech Republic. The text is divided into the four chapters. The first chapter is devoted to viral hepatitis in general, their etiology, epidemiology, clinical manifestation and their therapy. The second and the third chapters are concentrated on acute and chronic hepatitis with explanations of hepatitis' transmission and clinic manifestation, diagnostics, treatment and preventive measures. At last chapter I mentioned about hepatitis at pregnant women and newborn babies of mothers HbsAg positive and their prophylaxis. The main aim of work is review about risk associated with viral infection and accentuation of importance preventive measures, which protect transmission of virus.

Analysis development programs of Department of Culture for support activities in public libraries

Tématem práce je analýza a popis rozvojových programů Ministerstva kultury ČR, které představují jednu z možností financování knihoven v České republice. Práce je rozdělena do dvou základních kapitol. První část se věnuje dotační politice MK ČR, legislativnímu vymezení, organizační struktuře a hodnotí grantový proces na základě SWOT analýzy. Stěžejní část práce se věnuje analýze jednotlivých programů: Česká knihovna, Knihovna 21. století, Program na podporu zajištění výkonu regionálních funkcí knihoven, VISK, Projekt internetizace knihoven a programům v oblasti výzkumu a vývoje knihoven. Analýza programů vychází z hodnocení statistických dat, které podávají ucelený přehled o průběhu a výsledcích programů. Základními ukazateli jsou: financování, počet zastoupených subjektů a výsledky, které daný program přinesl. Práce hodnotí programy od doby vzniku až po současnost. V případě, že byly modifikovány ze starších projektů, je odkázáno i na jejich historii.
