Distribution of invasive neophytes in the riparian vegetation of the Berounka river
Randová, Nela ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Romportl, Dušan (referee)
The river banks are very often colonized by invasive alien plants. The aim of this paper was to monitor the presence of invasive neophytes in riparian vegetation of the Berounka river and to compare the results with those of Boháčková (2007) from the year 2006. The research was completed during August in the year 2015. In every segment of the riparian vegetation were observed the presence and approximate population of seventeen invasive neophytes. In the riparian vegetation of the Berounka river were observed thirteen invasive neophytes on the whole. Impatiens glandulifera occured in the largest number of the segments, very closely followed by Robinia pseudacacia. Reynoutria sp. represented the largest population of individuals in the entire study area. The results of the comparison showed that the invasive neophytes are spreading to new locations but their population is not getting bigger. Key words: invasive neophytes, riparian vegetation, stream, changes in vegetation, monitoring of vegetation
Evaluation of geographical textbooks in terms of environmental ethics
Seidlová, Martina ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Kučerová, Silvie Rita (referee)
It is clear that the nature needs to be protected. But reasons for this need varies with individuals. Enviromental ethics deals with reasons why the nature should be protected and with attitude to the nature itself. In enviromental ethics there are several lines of thought. Here will be paid attention to theese five - theocentrism, athropocentrism, biocentrism, ecocentrism and lifeboat ethics. The aim of this study is to assess the level of representation of lines of though metioned above in Czech geographical textbooks. Considering that there are many of geographical textbooks, only textbooks designated for different types of high schools of publishers NČCGS, SPN, Fortuna and Fragment are evaluated.
Comparison of model protected areas - evaluation of the quality and connectivity of habitats
Hrdina, Aleš ; Romportl, Dušan (advisor) ; Matějček, Tomáš (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the biodiversity hotspots - high biodiversity areas with a large proportion of endemic species, which also has already lost a significant part of its natural habitat. The historical development of the biodiversity hotspots concept is described, all 34 hotspots is characterized, species diversity and endemism of plants and animals, potential natural vegetation is analysed, as well as threats, anthropogenic impact and conservation considering protected areas, categories I-IV areas of the IUCN protected areas management system, and national parks. A complete digital vector database of national parks was created. Qualitative importance of each hotspot is evaluated using the Myers method and areas of the world with the highest conservation priority are identified. Keywords: biodiversity hotspots, habitat quality, protected areas, national parks
Konstructivism in geography education
Medková, Eva ; Marada, Miroslav (advisor) ; Matějček, Tomáš (referee)
Medková, E. (2012): Constructivism in geography education. Department of Social Geography and Regional Development, Charles University in Prague. The thesis deals with a constructivist model used in Geography classes. The theoretical part focuses on the characteristic of this model and compares it with the traditional transmissive model. It describes the methods used in the constructivist teaching. Part of the practical section was the pedagogical experiment that compared the efficiency of constructivist and transmissive teaching. Experiment was realized in the Primary school in two parallel 7th grade classes. There were two geographical topics tought - monsoons and the development of the Asian states. The development of the Asian states topic was tought transmissively in one class and in a constructivist manner in the second class. As a second step the other topic of monsoons was tought and the teaching method in the classes was interchanged. The efficiency of the teaching was determined by the help of the didactic test and then statistically evaluated.
The design and realization of a tool for an efficiency improvement of teaching Geography and the tool evaluation
Plevová, Petra ; Fialová, Dana (advisor) ; Matějček, Tomáš (referee)
The main goal of this diploma thesis is to create a tool for an efficiency improvement of teaching Geography at a grammar school, which is based on several criteria. The tool is then tested in practice and its impact on students' geographical knowledge is evaluated. The work is conceptually divided into two main parts. The first of them introduces fieldwork as is generally known and construed, because the tool is based on some of the fieldwork principles and is realized outside the school building. An analysis of Czech curricular documents is not omitted in the text. The second, more voluminous part deals with practical issues. The main part presents a concept of a particular field teaching and a description of its following implementation. Subsequently, a tool, which was used to measure the effectiveness of the realized fieldwork, is described in the text. The results of the survey and the overall assessment are concluded at the end of this thesis. Key words: tool - geography - Geography field teaching - effectiveness - testing
Complex Geographical Tasks Inspired by PISA Research
Šilhánová, Martina ; Řezníčková, Dana (advisor) ; Matějček, Tomáš (referee)
This diploma thesis outlines a set of three complex geographical tasks with different thematic focus inspired by the PISA research of scientific literacy. Using these tasks selected skills and knowledge of students are verified. The research examines how different are levels of mastery of selected skills and knowledge of primary school students and eight-year gymnasium students, and among the boys and girls thereof. This research is complemented by a questionnaire survey among teachers of tested students. In the testing there were involved 196 students from seven primary schools and 202 students of eight-year schools.
Noise in the environment from physical geography point of view
Křečková, Michala ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Přibyl, Václav (referee)
This study investigates the sound propagation in the environment, defines sounds and related noise and describes their sources and features in general. The importance of noise as the environmental factor has shifted up sharply in the last decade and the sound propagation depends on many different circumstances. These factors, such as meteorological conditions, topography, ground cover or presence of vegetation cause changes in the sound propagation. Furthermore, nature itself can be also the place, where the sounds are generated. In the study were also listed impacts of sounds in landscape according to the origin (geophone, biophone and antrophone). In the practical part of this study the noise reduction effect of vegetation was investigated. More than 70 vegetations profiles with 43 vegetation species were covered and investigated. Six different kinds of vegetation were taken into account (conifers, broad-leaved trees, mixed forest, field thickets, herbs and belts of shrubs). To make comparison with the figures the last investigation was made in the open ground as the basic measure to compare the difference in sound pressure levels between the tree belts, theoretical attenuation and open ground. Point source of noise was set up in various distances in the front of the tree belts. Level of noise at various...
Possibilities and potential impacts of development in electromobility in the Visegrad Group countries
Görcs, Jan ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Kraft, Stanislav (referee)
1 Possibilities and potential impacts of development in electromobility in the Visegrad Group countries Abstract Electromobility is currently a very current and widely discussed topic, in connection with the significant negative impacts of road transport on the environment. However, often are presented only its positive aspects in comparison with conventional cars with internal combustion engine. Neglected negatives include not only the impact on the environment in connection with the extraction of the necessary raw materials, but also due to their charging with electricity. The aim of this work is therefore to evaluate the potential impacts of electromobility on energy and the environment in the Visegrad group countries, until 2030. To achieve the goal of this work will be used scenario approach, which is used to determine the future state. However, the aim of this work is not to accurately predict the future, but to evaluate and compare the potential impacts of electromobility in individual countries based on predefined input parameters and variables. As will be shown, these impacts are not entirely negligible in some countries and must therefore be considered before the further development of electromobility. Key words: electromobility, electric mobility, battery electric vehicles, vehicles with internal...
