Natural disasters or technical accidents in libraries: a comparative case study of two libraries affected by the floods

The thesis deals with a comparative case study of two libraries affected by floods in the year 2002. For this work were selected two libraries - the Municipal Library in Kralupy nad Vltavou and the Hus Library in Modřany. In the introduction, work is devoted generally to natural disasters and their and their typology. In more detail, a natural disaster of the flood is treated here. This section summarizes the findings of a flood event in 2002. In the next chapters, the thesis deals with a comparative case study, which summarizes the findings from two affected libraries. This research is complemented by interviews with librarians, volunteers and the archive press, which captures the time around the floods. At the end of the thesis, the libraies are compared in the area of flood managemen, and the case study evalution is presented here. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Processing of periodicals in the Czech Republic and abroad, a move towards RDA rules

The aim of this work is to evaluate the current procedures and to indicate the development of the cataloging practice towards the RDA rules based on research and analysis of bibliographic production serials in selected Czech and foreign libraries. The diploma thesis is divided into several chapters. After introducing the issue of serial documents follows the chapter devoted to the standards and resources for cataloging the continuing resources that the catalogers should know. The next chapter deals with the FRBR and its application to the serials. Part of the chapter dealing with RDA rules from the serials perspective is also the analysis of these rules according to the FRBR structure available in the RDA Toolkit. Three chapters are devoted to the analysis of bibliographic processing, first in foreign libraries, then in Czech libraries, and in the last chapter there is a comparison of selected periodicals in foreign and Czech libraries. At the end of the thesis are presented the impacts of application of the FRBR model and RDA rules on serials cataloging. Legislative framework of operation and services of libraries in the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia: comparative analysis

Following thesis has a task to analyse free library laws - czech, slovak and polish. Thesis consists of two parts - theoretical and practical. In theoretical part is analysed firstly czech library law. Later slovak and polish library law are analysed. In practical part is firstly explained method - comparative analysis. Further there are formulated a research questions. Sampling and coding with indicators follow. Then method of analysis is solved - in our case comparation, where czech and slovak library law and czech and polish library law are compared with help of the indicators. In the end there is a brief final summary.
Specifics of Swedish librarianship: public library and information services for minorities and migrants

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the current status of the Swedish librarianship and the public library and information sevices that the Swedish libraries provide to the local minorities and migrants. The thesis describes the present state and history of the field in Sweden and includes a questionnaire that was sent to chosen libraries across the country. It depicts the selected library projects that help integrating the minorities and migrants. This work should contribute to a better understanding of Swedish librarianship and its role in a culturally diverse society. FRBRization of catalogs and databases - the situation abroad

(in English): The diploma thesis deals with the conceptual model functional requirements for bibliographic records and its implementation or FRBRisation of library information systems abroad. The introduction of the thesis presents in brief the FRBR conceptual model and its family. The second chapter discusses the development of FRBRisation activities since the creation of the FRBR study to the present. The third chapter presents a more detailed description of the FRBRisation process and presents the benefits and challenges of these projects. In connection with this, the impact on cataloging standards and data structures is also mentioned, as well as the currently debated issue concerning the possible ways of presenting the FRBRised data. The last chapter of the diploma thesis contains analysis and comparison of two selected FRBRised systems (BORéAL union catalog and Primo discovery system), with emphasis on the means and scope of FRBR implementation and user interface.
The issue of transition cataloging practice on the new cataloging rules

This thesis describes the transition to RDA rules for cataloguing in the Czech Republic and abroad, comparing this transition to the adoption of AACR2. Part of the thesis is a summary of the history and development of AACR, AACR2 and RDA as well as a summary of the history and development of cataloguing rules in the local Czech environment. The work includes original research conducted using qualitative interviews with selected library employees in Prague and the Central Bohemian Region. These interviews identified problem areas which might impede a shift to RDA in the Czech environment.
The future of cataloger profession

The bachelor thesis deals with the future of cataloger profession. The research investigates possible development of cataloging and position of the cataloger in the Czech librarianship. It briefly presents the position of cataloger and it outlines the development of cataloging on an international and Czech level in the past. The situation of cataloging work and its future abroad is based on the retrieval. The research was realised in the form of qualitative structured interviews with Czech professionals in the librarianship field. The conclusion of this thesis is dedicated to the summery of the found information, it answers the defined reasearch questions and presents subjective vision of cataloging development.
The tools for building the collection in the Municipal Library of Prague

The goal of this bachelor thesis is to introduce tools, practices, and agendas used to build the library collection of the Municipal Library of Prague (further also MLP) and their relations. The thesis consists of six chapters and appendices. It includes the explanation of some internal terms used only in MLP. Later, the characterization and a brief history of the Municipal Library of Prague are exposed. The thesis also describes the processes taking place in the departments of acquisitions and library collections maintenance (purchase, resupply, displacement). More attention is given to the so-called attractive collection, its characterization, purchase, displacement, and lending, and selected sample of the attractive collection is used to show the function of the tools to build the collection. The thesis concludes with the possibilities of innovations in the field of building the collections in the Municipal Library of Prague.
