The diploma thesis "Spiritual support in the context of the Czech post-modern society" presents spiritual support as seen in the context of selected practices of the Czech Roman- Catholic Church. The thesis puts this view into the context of theoretical findings in the field of spiritual support and defines the main characteristics of the field, pointing out the debatable points or diverse approaches to it. The part dedicated to the Czech post-modern society describes the state of the contemporary Czech non/religiousness, explores its causes, and points out the opportunities of extending the offer of Christian spiritual support also to people outside the religious environment.
Human Being as Pert of Creation in the Theology of Dumitru Stăniloae
Miencil, Petr ; Noble, Ivana (advisor) ; Bauerová, Kateřina (referee)
This thesis targets selected topics of theology of creation and of man, that is, theological cosmology and anthropology in the work of Romanian orthodox theologian Dumitru Stăniloae. I will first introduce his curriculum vitae, corpus of his work and its historical context. After this, I will present selected topics of his cosmology and anthropology; i.e. attributes of created world and of man, for example rationality of the world, it's transparency towards God, theological meaning of time, space, malleability and finality of creation. Part of my thesis deals with topic of theosis of man and of world in Dumitru Stăniloae's theology. His work presents interesting coherence with modern concept of natural philosophy: the anthropic principle. Cosmology and anthropology of Dumitru Stăniloae draws strong inspiration in patristic literature, namely in work of Maximus Confessor. Dumitru Stăniloae's work accentuates unity of man and creation; represented by man before God. Creation reaches self-conscientious, rational status in humans, and in this sense human beings are part of Maximus' concept of logoi-Logos, which is further developed by Dumitru Stăniloae and presented by him in current theological discourse regarding created world. The Church as a Non-familial Solidary Political Community
Kušnieriková, Michaela ; Noble, Ivana (advisor) ; Štěch, František (referee) ; Hušek, Vít (referee)
This thesis explores why the metaphor of the church as a family is insufficient, when we focus on the relation of the church to the world and primarily on a holistic concept of Christian acting. In this attempt, Arendt's theory of political action, Bonhoeffer's ecclesiology and political theology and Stăniloae's theology of the world and acting are brought into a conversation. The roots of the different views of Arendt and Bonhoeffer on the family symbolism are traced to their distinct notions of acting. Therefore, including also Stăniloae's voice, this becomes the central theme of the debate focusing on the inter-action of actors and acting's place in the world. Christian calling is unfolded not only as acting for others, but also with others in a response to the words and deeds of God existing as three Persons in communion. As human beings are drawn into this space of unique relations, they are empowered to communal and common acting of equals participating in worldly and public-political issues. Since a familial symbolism conveys only a limited notion of acting, omitting its common aspect, this study complements this symbolism with a metaphor of the church as a solidary political community. The I-Thou relationship of Martin Buber and its radicalization by Emmanuel Levinas
Kroupová, Dana ; Noble, Ivana (advisor) ; Fischer, Ondřej (referee)
In this thesis I explore the relation in Buber's and Levinas's understanding. Both of these Jew philosophers endeavoured to describe an essence of genuine dialogue and both saw in dialogue the word that turns to a Thou, the primal deed of spirit. Nevertheless in spite of these similarities there are also a differences in their understanding of a dynamics within the genuine dialogue. Whereas Buber talks about a reciprocity in such a relation Levinas asserts that there is an asymmetry there and therefore he radicalizes Buber's conception and responsibility towards the other. In the first part of my thesis I focus on important influences on Buber's and Levinas' lives and introduce a "poetics" of their understanding of a genuine dialogue based particularly on their main piece of work: Buber's I and Thou and Levinas's Totality and Infinity. Although there was a communication between these two thinkers according to some philosophers it often exhibited a lack of dialogue and a failure to understand each other. Therefore I outline the similarities and differences in detail in the final chapters. Keywords Buber, Levinas, Rosenzweig, I - Thou relationship, face, reciprocity, asymmetry, responsibility, ethics, infinity
Totalitarian thinking: a critique by Theodor Adorno
Klubalová, Jitka ; Noble, Ivana (advisor) ; Ovečka, Libor (referee)
There is still a totalitarian regime in some countries of the world. This regime does not allow its citizens to develop their individual development, violates human rights and does not respect a personal freedom. There is an obvious centralisation of power, suppressed diversity and very strong tool of power is ideology in these states. A way of thinking of a ruling establishment, but also of people who are in thrall of the totalitarian regime could be called as a totalitarian thinking. Theodor Adorno was concerned by the critique of such thinking and he also wanted to name the pathological attributes of such thinking. Adorno's main idea is the concept of identity and non-identity: how we name the world. We need to name the the reality around us, because as humans this ability to categorise influences our view of reality. It is how we judge society and our behaviour within it. The opinions of Theodor Adorno are accompanied by Václav Havel's reflections. Havel lived the significant part of his life in totalitarian Czechoslovakia and throughout his works he was concerned with the phenomenon of a "post-totalitarian system ". The texts of both of these thinkers form the basis for the personal attempt of the author to discuss the phenomena which lead to totalitarianism.
A Dialogue of Faith and Non-faith in a Chosen Work of Josef L. Horamadka and Tomas Halik
Skřivanová, Tereza ; Noble, Ivana (advisor) ; Moree, Pieter (referee)
A dialogue of faith and non-faith is a main theme of my thesis as it is discussed in a chosen work of Josef L. Horamadka and Tomas Halik. First part of the thesis is focused dialogue between Christianity and atheism, as it was present in communist society based on works of Josef L. Hromadka, emphasizing importance of Christianity for secularized society and vice versa. Starting point for opening of discussion for J. L. Hromadka is a situation a modern man finds himself to be in. Second part of the thesis is dealing with a topic of faith and non faith as discussed by Tomas Halik who points out this dialogue as crucial one for postmodern society. He underlines mutual understanding of differences of the others and engagement with non believers in solidarity of pilgrims. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
The Notion of "Acceptance" in Paul Tillich's American Sermons
Chalupníček, Pavel ; Noble, Ivana (advisor) ; Hošek, Pavel (referee)
This thesis attempts to analyze the way in which German-American theologian Paul Tillich uses the notion of "acceptance" in sermons from his American period. Tillich's theology is distinguished by his search for new terms that, according to his opinion, could better approximate the message of Christianity for contemporary readers. In this search he does not hesitate to use terms from the sphere of philosophy, sociology or psychology. This approach is strongly reflected also in his sermons and his use of "acceptance" was selected as its model example: Tillich uses "acceptance" to approximate traditional Lutheran teaching on justification by God's grace (sola gratia). At the same time, as he "translates" traditional theological vocabulary into the language common in other disciplines, he exposes himself to criticism and questions regarding the legitimacy of his endeavour. Therefore, this thesis also deals with three main streams of criticism directed towards Tillich's use of "acceptance": (a) criticism of the "correlation" between theology and psychology, (b) criticism of the nature of Tillich's teaching on justification/acceptance, (c) criticism of excessively active or passive nature of "acceptance" in Tillich's theology.
