Cultural Diplomacy

Diploma thesis "Cultural diplomacy" examines a specific field of diplomatic relations in which culture plays the key role. It introduces basic terminology and theoretical outcomes. Later, it defines cultural diplomacy in the broader context of public diplomacy, nation branding, and soft power. The main part is devoted to describing and analyzing the environment in the Czech Republic - it defines institutions and instruments used in the Czech environment and specifies methods of cultural diplomacy. With respect to subsections of cultural diplomacy, it is primarily devoted to the performing arts. The following chapter describing the transition of cultural diplomacy to guerilla diplomacy constitutes a substantial part of the thesis. It introduces this concept as the first thesis so far. Further it explains it in detail and points to the possibility of its application in the field of art and possibly culture. The final part includes suggestions for working more efficiently with tools of cultural and guerilla diplomacy in the Czech Republic.
Theatre festivals of European Arts Universities

The bachelor thesis is the research output of three student theatre festivals in Europe. The aim was to explore different approaches and organizational structure on selected examples. The introduction is devoted to student festivals topic and connected with that the description of Zlomvaz Prague festival and its history. The focus of the work is a detailed description of how the festivals in Belgrade, London and Amsterdam function. The examples show possibilities of these events and the specifics of their organization and dramaturgy. The work has ambitions to serve as an additional informative material for future Zlomvaz festivals. Greater insight into the issue of student festivals could help developing and directing teams of organizers in the coming years.
AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT

The goal of this thesis is a thorough investigation of questions and potential of the marketing strategy called AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT. The structure of the thesis proceeds from the generally accepted marketing knowledge to the specific possibilities of audience development. It analyses theoretical strategies of audience development as well as concrete instruments used to acquire new customers and also to satisfy and stimulate current customers. A practical proposal of an audience development concept is demonstrated by DISK theater case study. The concrete goal of this thesis is to serve as an auxiliary material for smaller theater groups or amateur theaters which would like to improve their own work with audience. Therefore, I tried to write the text in an intelligible form and accompany most claims by practical examples.
Project: Circus Art Institute in the Czech Republic

Maršíková, Šárka: Project: Institute of Circus Arts in Czech Republic. M.A. Thesis. Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. Theatre Faculty, Prague 2011. 66 pp. Diploma Thesis ?Project: Institute of Circus Arts in Czech Republic? works with the possibility to establish new performing school in Czech Republic, with aim on the new circus art. Thesis refers to the European network of circus schools, which provides us a great inspiration and experience of the similar organization´s operation. This work analyses current legislation structure for art schools with focus on tertiary education and provide us potentialities of establishing it as a college. It follows two main questions ? organization of the studies and study plan on the one side and economical and technical facilities and structure on the other side.
CRM AS A MANAGEMENT TOOL FOR NGOS IN CULTURE

The author of the thesis explores the use of the Client Relationship Management (hereinafter referred to as CRM) to support the management of NGOS culture organizations. The first part of the text describes the areas in which the CRM computer technology and related methods and principles of management and marketing could be used, defines current basic legislative framework, which is necessary to respect in the processing of personal data. Author also recommends how to implement the CRM system into the culturally oriented NGO organization to work on daily basis. The second part of the thesis presents a case study, which proposes the particular settings needed to implement the CRM computer system into service of Dejvické Theatre upon previous SWOT analysis of the situation and external environment.
The way from martial arts to the theatre

This bachelor´s thesis records author´s existing experience with martial arts and it´s subsequent blending with performing arts techniques. The thesis is divided into four parts. In the first part, individual martial arts are discussed. In the second part, the author outlines her perception of the parallels between the martial arts disciplines and psyschosomatic disciplines of KATaP. The third section covers "the warrior archetype", an archetypal component of every human being. The fourth and fifth parts reflect in more detail author´s theatrical experience, as influenced by Eastern culture.
ProCulture

My thesis describes the historical background of ProCulture's origin. An interesting chapter explains the organization that led to the establishment of ProCulture headed by George Soros and his foundation, Open Society Fund Prague. The main part of my thesis focuses on the activities of ProCulture. These activities have a huge impact on Czech culture and politics. I highlight the significance of advocacy activities through my examples of particular campaigns and through informative and educational work. Lastly, I explain that there are similar organizations in the Czech Republic being described. Proculture is a very important element of Czech cultural life.
Arts Council England

This text presents basic analysis of the functioning of the Arts Council England. First section describes the main sources of funding arts and culture in Great Britain. Special part is devoted to the activity of the UK National Lottery. Next chapter examines the history and effect of the Arts Council England. A separate section deals with the impact of economic crisis on Arts Council England and presents how the recession affected financing of culture in the UK. The final chapter is devoted to application of the funding system of Great Britain to the Czech Republic. It describes the possibility of transferring some aspects to Czech life and the possibility of creation the same organization as Arts Council England in Czech Republic
Administration support of independent cultural institutions

Diploma thesis Administration support of an independent cultural institutions? works with the theme of production-administration support of an independent/experimental theater companies and individual artists. Wide range of different possibilities of that support is shown by the example of London based organization called ARTSADMIN. ARTSADMIN stands here as a representative to comparison with similar organizations in Czech Republic, which are, by its merit of cooperation with an artist, close to the theme of production-administration and which are also able to perform such a support. Next to this, text brings us the insight view on current conditions, as legislation and financial support system in Czech Republic, which are not ideal. Final part of the work concludes obtained knowledge into the model organization, which would be able to function fully, even in current conditions.
South City - Dream City

This thesis is a case study, which deals with the regeneration of a peripheral part of the capital city of Prague by culture. The study refers to the theory of a so-called creative cities and is based on the assumption that high-quality cultural and social environment can transform deprived location on a vibrant and attractive environment. In the theoretical part are given arguments advocating the importance of culture and art for the recovery and development of cities or regions. The second part of the thesis is devoted to a summary of findings and analysis of the specific situation of settlement of South City. The last section gives a strategic plan addressing how to achieve this regeneration, and also focuses on a detailed description of the institutional instruments, which is the main part of the regeneration process.
