Růžičková, Lucie ; Spilková, Jana (advisor) ; Frélichová, Jana (referee)
Community gardens are a new phenomenon which appeared in Prague quite recently. This thesis focuses on the topic of community gardens and its specific aim is to determine whether the Prague community gardens perform the functions of ecosystem services. The thesis consists of two main parts. The first part aims to create a theoretical framework necessary for the introduction to the study of ecosystem services and the concept of urban gardening. The second part tries to outline which ecosystem services are the most prominent in the researched community gardens and which are the least covered, thus which community gardens in this performance of ecosystem services evaluated best and which the worst. By applying the method of field research and interview it has been confirmed that cultural ecosystem services are the most prominent benefit of community gardening for local communities in Prague. Other important functions that community gardens in this survey performed were supporting and regulating ecosystem services. Equally important is also the finding that community gardens perform the function of producing healthy food for local gardeners. Key words: ekosystem secvices, urban gardering, community gardens

The population ageing and homes for the elderly - the development and geographic differences in the regions of the Czech Republic between 2007-2012
Kotlínová, Lucie ; Spilková, Jana (advisor) ; Dvořáková, Nina (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to analyse the development of providing services of homes for the elderly between 2007-2012 in the context of population ageing in the Czech Republic. In this thesis population ageing in the Czech Republic is characterised in each region and these results are compared with other countries of the European Union. In the second part the development of providing services of the homes for the elderly is analysed from the beginning of the law 108/2006 Sb., about social services based on the data from Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, Czech Statistical Office and on the survey with social workers employed in homes for the elderly. Although the proportion of seniors in the Czech Republic in comparison with other countries of the European Union is increasing relatively fast and according to the prognosis the growth will continue in the future, the number of homes for the elderly in the reported period rose only slightly and the number of beds in them rather stagnated. This situation is caused mostly by requirements for improving of the quality of provided services, by the individualization of the care for the clients in these facilities and by stronger support of the mobile social care services for the elderly. Keywords: population ageing, senior, homes for the elderly
The integration of retail net with bicycle transportation according to Bike&Shop conception
Švihelová, Sylva ; Spilková, Jana (advisor) ; Jech, Karel (referee)
The still increasing intensity of an individual motor transport (IMT) in cities becomes unsustainable. Moreover, the establishment of new retail centres (RCs) continues to escalate it, because their business policy is principally aimed to motorised costumers. Furthermore, a rapid turnover of goods, which enables low prices, along with a wide range of goods under one roof make RCs more attractive than traditional small shops in the inner-city. Therefore, these small shops have been shut down, and people must travel longer distances in order to reach the required services. The purpose of my thesis is to find a possibility how to replace by doing shopping the common automobile transport with cycling. This kind of transport is environmentally friendly and energy-saving, occupies less urban space, is accessible for everyone and also healthy, is reciprocally advantageous, it sustains quite large attraction zone, and up to 5 km it is even faster. In this thesis, for the first time defined Bike&Shop conception introduces the integration of retail net with bicycle transportation. It was inspired by already familiar Bike&Ride system. Bike&Shop concept illustrates advantages of shopping by bike, as well as instruments which can help to develop this way of shopping. The theoretical part is based on foreign...

Impact assessment of the shopping mall construction on the city centre
Zavřelová, Pavla ; Spilková, Jana (advisor) ; Bednář, Pavel (referee)
This thesis focuses on problems related to unregulated construction of shopping malls in the city centres. Shopping malls are often built considering their negative effects on small merchants, urban environment etc. This particular problem was analyzed in two cities (Pardubice and Liberec) using elements of Retail Impact Assessment study and counterfactual impact evaluation method. Results showed that placing the shopping malls to the city centre changes the structure of retail units in its vicinity. Since customers prefer larger shopping facilities, their shopping behaviour changes, and small merchants are forced to addapt and compete with "all under one roof" shopping centers. Some of them cannot compete with these centers and are forced to close. Contribution of this research focuses on application of unique methods which indicated a need to regulate and coordinate building of large shopping centers within Czech cities. Key words: retail impact assessment, city centre, vitality, shopping mall

Petrišče, Ondřej ; Dvořáková, Nina (advisor) ; Spilková, Jana (referee)
EVERYDAY LIFE AND SOCIAL ISOLATION OF ELDERLY PEOPLE IN URBAN AND RURAL ENVIRONMENTS THE ABSTRACT: My presented diploma thesis includes two concepts. The first one describes the quality of life and residential environments; the second concerns social isolation. Both of these examine a different view on the quality of life within the senior generation because the daily life of the older generation is influenced by the intensity and frequency of sociable relations together with the quality of residential environment in which they live. In the study I chose two different types of environments - an urban environment of Plzeň, a borough of Doubravka and a rural environment of a small village - Pasečnice. In the work, I observed the strengths and weaknesses of these environments in a group of people, who were interviewed. The research was made with semi-structural interview and analyzes the disposition of social isolation and the personal feeling about each residential environment. Diploma thesis concentrates on the main factors in senior's daily lives such as social relations, housing, basic service facilities, transportation availability, free time, and safety in the mentioned area of living. Localization factors of shopping centers: Case study of shopping centers in Prague
Hladík, Zdeněk ; Spilková, Jana (advisor) ; Pospíšilová, Lucie (referee)
Localisation of economic activities is an often debated issue in the expert literature. In particular, the factors determining the location of retail units in such a complex environment, as is the metropolitan Prague, is a very complicated process. Variance of several meters can determine the entire success or failure of the shopping center. Therefore, the first part of this thesis presents and discuss a broad range of studies and methods with different approaches to determine location analysis. The results of this thesis show the efforts of customers to minimize time and effort spent on shopping, which is just a reflection of the proximity and availability of metro station as the main localization factor in Prague's area. However, not only the location, but also the preferences of customers of specific marketing mix and characteristics affect the success of these centers. Key words: shopping center, localisation factors, Prague, metro, availability
