Kosová, Kristýna ; Benešová, Libuše (advisor) ; Kotoulová, Zdenka (referee)
The paper examines the suitability of municipal waste landfill in the Czech Republic. Landfill is still the most common method of waste disposal. This is mainly due to the number of landfills in the country, the level of charges, poorly built infrastructure capacity and other technical facilities for waste management. The work deals with the actual construction of landfill, through the production, collection and sorting MSW to the political and economic waste management. It also focusing on current issues of legislation and waste management. Part of this work is survey of public opinion and proffesional's views on this issue, which is divided to supporters and opponents. Although the landfill haves still a decreasing trend, the fact remains that there will be always stay some residual waste that can not to be completly remove. So the landfill will always remain as integral part of waste management.

Hejdová, Jiřina ; Benešová, Libuše (advisor) ; Kotoulová, Zdenka (referee)
The problems of litter are now getting to the forefront of attention in the realm of waste research. The phenomenon of littering is monitored especially in towns, but not so much outside the urbanized areas. Waste represents, for both esthetic and conservationist reasons, an undesirable phenomenon. This holds true for the protected areas in particular. This Master's Thesis is concerned with the analysis of litter, which should be the first step in the prevention and solution of the problems of littering. Three protected landscape areas and two national parks were chosen for this survey. Two tourist trails were selected in each protected area - the main and the minor one. The collection of litter was carried out in spring, summer and autumn. Collected waste was categorized at first and then a number of pieces, weight and volume were set for each category concerned. Effectiveness of textile waste management
Dolejší, Gabriela ; Slavík, Jan (advisor) ; Kotoulová, Zdeňka (referee)
The purpose of this master thesis is to address two main ways of dealing with used textile material in Czech Republic. It compares textile material as a component of a household waste with textile material as a component of a segregated waste. The main question that the thesis and the research done within it addresses is whether the costs, associated with textile waste management coming as the result of administrative tools and legislative action plans mounted to it, are not too high. Based on a calculated model of cost structure of both above mentioned variants their comparison could be performed. Analysis of its results pointed out, that under certain given conditions and assumptions the system of segregated waste collection is, despite its higher costs, effective. The outcome of this master thesis is proposed possible scenarios used to optimize textile waste management in the context of economic science methodology, available data and primary research questions.
Is Waste to Energy an alternative?
Hanigovský, Štefan ; Slavík, Jan (advisor) ; Kotoulová, Zdeňka (referee)
The world waste hierarchy is changing under the pressure of growing population, strict standards of living and environmental standards, as well as new technological experiences. Strengthening of environmental standards in Europe leads to restraining the most used and cheapest waste treatment method - landfilling. The limitation of landfilling will force the countries to search for alternative treatments. This diploma thesis is supposed to give certain conclusion whether the incineration of waste with gaining energy (waste-to-energy) can be the right way how to deal with waste in the future. Current market position of waste-to-energy is being examined in selected European countries, focusing on whole environmental, economic and social aspects of using this technology. Incineration as commercially proven state-of-the-art technology is still having problems entering the new markets even if the technology with its sophisticated approach shows a great environmental service. The results of the examinations show the potential for Czech Republic, as well as other countries where WTE is not utilized yet.
