Google Book Search : the analysis of the system and its usage in the Czech Republic
Frčka, Pavel ; Bratková, Eva (advisor) ; Souček, Jiří (referee)
The topic of this master's degree diploma thesis is the Google Books service, formerly Google Book Search and Google Print. The wider general context is described briefly in the first two chapters. Google company and its portfolio of services are introduced, as well as the latest progress in sharing of information, for example trends as digital libraries and open access. Third chapter presents results of the analysis of the Google Books as the complex system. Mentioned are: a history of the service, Library Project, Partner Program, metadata harvesting, scanning methods, available searching options, all information and functionalities in the individual records, users' participation. Chapter four is focused on copyright law and disputes related to the Google Books. Fifth chapter deals with the usage of the Google Books in the Czech Republic, in the terms of all local activities. Great attention belongs to digitization in cooperation of Google company with National Library of the Czech Republic. Two questionnaires were done for this thesis, between college students and large Czech publishers. Good knowledge of the service existence was found; the most attractive attribute is the presence of full texts. Publishers appreciate a possibility of selling e-books. Detailed results of both surveys are the content of...
Misuse of ICT users digital footprint: library education as a prevention of privacy invasion
Kovářová, Pavla ; Souček, Martin (advisor) ; Souček, Jiří (referee) ; Štogrová Jedličková, Petra (referee)
Title of the dissertation: Misuse of ICT users digital footprint: library education as a prevention of privacy invasion Author: PhDr. Pavla Kovářová Supervisor: Ing. Martin Souček, Ph.D. Digital footprints, within the meaning of digital information informing about a particular person, belongs to the basic of the information society. They can help (e.g. as a proof of professional quality), but also hurt (e.g. documents of inappropriate behaviour, information misused in information attack) a man whom they relate. Managing digital footprints is becoming important for increasing amount of people. Libraries can promote knowledge of procedures for the effective management of digital footprints by information literacy lessons, which is a prerequisite for their application. PhD thesis describes the theoretical, but especially the research level. Activities of Czech libraries in education are mapped for the correct setting of lessons. Questionnaires showed that the topic continues with the current activities and interest in libraries. Knowledge of librarians and library and information studies students about digital footprints was subsequently tested. Knowledge has been proven, however only to a basic, limited level, but they are enough for four lessons designed for children in elementary school in the dissertation....
Open Science - scientific (r)evolution
Simandlová, Tereza ; Souček, Jiří (advisor) ; Rygelová, Pavla (referee)
The thesis deals with openness in the scientific practice and discusses in detail the concept of open science. Apart from theoretical part dedicated to description of science, traditional model of scholarly communication, and initial ideas of openness, thesis summarizes the approaches of particular open science schools of thought and introduces specific tools, initiatives and methods enabling the idea of openness to become reality. Practical part of thesis focuses on description of current state of open science in the Czech Republic and by using the Future wheel prognostic method offers visualization of the future development in science and society, further specifies possible consequences of implementing the concept of open science into practice and defines opportunities and risks of the second scientific revolution.
The influence of the ICT development on the media literacy
Douša, Vojtěch ; Štogr, Jakub (advisor) ; Souček, Jiří (referee)
This bachelor's thesis aims to examine the influence of the development of information and communication technologies on media literacy. In short, it is an analysis of statistical data on the development of ICT and the subsequent implementation of this data on the empirical facts about media literacy in the Czech Republic. Main idea is focused on the gradual transition from traditional methods of transmitting media information to digitalisation and how Czech society is dealing with this change. The paper demonstrates the differences in the opportunities to access modern technologies which can display media content and examines these differences in various socio-demographic groups.
A book captured by networks: the electronic book as a new social phenomenon of a global network society
Pavela, Tomáš ; Křížková-Pessrová, Hana (advisor) ; Souček, Jiří (referee)
This work describes the electronic book as a medium of the information age which fully corresponds to the requirements of effective dissemination of information in a global network infosphere. The first part of the thesis deals with definitions of basic terms. The second part outlines the position of the electronic book in the context of conflict between two environments - print and digital. An electronic book is presented as a product of social and technological changes. The new media's attributes of an electronic book are described. Problems emerging from the different nature of print and digital environments are highlighted, covering selected points of view of copyright problems in a digital world. The third part explains the problems of libraries in the network environment. Libraries are described as institutions in the process of adapting to the new forms of services including the provision of electronic books. The new role of libraries in the network environment is clarified as well as the reactions of the professional library community to the new challenges for libraries.
Methodology for Evaluation in Google Company
Jakubcová, Beáta ; Souček, Martin (advisor) ; Souček, Jiří (referee)
The thesis describes a search engine of Google company and its method of web pages evaluating, which is used for sorting them on the search engine result page. In addition to the description of how search engines work in general, the thesis targets on differencies between Google and other search engines, as well as it mentions characteristics and principles designed by its founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, which make it unique. In the second part there are outlined some of many signals which are rated for every single web page. The most concerned signal is PageRank as the leading idea of pages evaluating, based on their link scheme which is founded on principles of citation analysis. Factors for evaluating are analysed using particular examples, and the topic is ended by the description of Google search engines changes from its beginning in 1998 until present.
Digital Images Production and Quality Control
Vychodil, Bedřich ; Souček, Jiří (advisor) ; Sklenák, Vilém (referee) ; Nič, Miloslav (referee)
(EN) This dissertation provides a broad understanding of fundamental terminology and an inside view of the digitization workflow and quality control processes. The main foci are on quality assurance during and outside the digitization processes and identification of the most suitable format for access, long term preservation, rendering and reformatting issues. An analysis of selected digitization centers is also included. An application called DIFFER (Determinator of Image File Format propERties) and subsequently The Image Data Validator - DIFFER has been developed using results from previously conducted research. The application utilizes new methods and technologies to help accelerate the whole processing and quality control. The goal was to develop a quality control application for a select group of relevant still image file formats capable of performing identification, characterization, validation and visual/mathematical comparison integrated into an operational digital preservation framework. This application comes with a well-structured graphic user interface, which helps the end user to understand the relationships between various file format properties, detect visual and non visual errors and simplify decision-making. Additional comprehensive annexes, describing the most crucial still image...

We prove that the Bell’s theorem and the nonlocality of quantum mechanics are scientifically unfounded statements.

Částicový model pro Higgsův kondensát a anomální geometrická difrakce
Souček, Jiří
In this paper we propose a particle model for the Higgs’ condensate: we propose that this condensate is the set of (infinite velocity) non-local tachyons. We show that then there exists the anomalous geometrical diffraction (which contradicts to quantum mechanics). We show that there exists a universal time constant which defines the limits of the validity of quantum mechanics. We propose an experiment testing the existence of the anomalous geometrical diffraction. We proposed the dark energy conjecture which enables to make an estimate of the time constant. We assume certain (“Feynman”) interaction between standard particle and the nonlocal tachyon. All this is related to the new (finite) form of the Feynman integral.
