Spin waves in non-trivial magnetic landscapes
Klíma, Jan ; Staňo, Michal (referee) ; Wojewoda, Ondřej (advisor)
Magnonics is a branch of physics dealing with spin waves, or their quanta – magnons. Spin waves are one of the candidates for beyond CMOS technology. Circuits and components utilizing the properties of spin waves have the potential to complement or replace the current technologies based on CMOS chips, which are nearing their physical limit. Information processing via spin waves requires the ability to effectively steer spin waves in magnonic circuits, especially in variously bent waveguides connecting individual circuit elements. Due to spin waves’ anisotropic behaviour, this remains on of the challenges to tackle. In the presented thesis, we used corrugating of the magnetic layer of the waveguides, which induces uniaxial magnetic anisotropy, with which we can control the magnetisation landscape in the waveguide with sub-micrometre precision. Using this approach, we can achieve zero-field-propagation of spin waves in desired modes in arbitrary directions. To aid our designs, we developed a model that analyses energy contributions and calculates the resulting effective magnetic field. Using this model and a thorough analysis of the dispersion relation, we designed a bent magnonic waveguide capable of steering spin waves, which we demonstrated by Brillouin light scattering microscopy.
Comparison of tinnitus treatment by selected therapeutic approaches.
Klíma, Jiří ; Malá, Jitka (advisor) ; Vláčilová, Ivana (referee)
Author: Bc. Jiří Klíma Title: Comparison of tinnitus treatment with selected therapeutic approaches Objectives: The aim of this thesis is to investigate the effectiveness of selected therapeutic approaches in the treatment of subjective chronic tinnitus. These approaches are manual therapy, low-power laser therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy. Another aim is to determine which of these approaches is the most effective. Last but not least aim is to summarize the current knowledge about tinnitus. Methods: The thesis is processed in the form of literature review. First, the current theoretical background is described, then the objectives of the thesis and research questions are set. Then the methodology is described and the results are presented and discussed. Last but not least, the limitations of this thesis and the studies are described. Results: In total, 13 studies were found that met the criteria. Based on these studies, it appears that both manual therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy lead to a significant reduction in tinnitus severity in some patients with subjective chronic tinnitus. The results of studies investigating the effect of low-power laser therapy have been inconsistent, but most have concluded that it is also effective in reducing the severity of tinnitus in patients with...
(Spectro) Electrochemical Study of Cibalackrot Derivatives – Potential Chromophores for Singlet Fission\n
Šimková, Ludmila ; Lušpai, Karol ; Klíma, Jiří ; Ludvík, Jiří
Recently, substantial attention has been paid to the search for suitable chromophores for singlet fission. This photophysical effect promises to increase the maximum of theoretical efficiency of solar cells. One type of candidates are derivatives of cibalackrot. Redox properties are critical for their use. Our electrochemical work is focused on the study of oxidation and reduction of a series of substituted cibalackrot derivatives using classic voltammetric techniques and their combination with in situ UV-vis and EPR spectroscopy. The results show the reversible formation of the radical anion (cation) in the first reduction (oxidation) step enabling determination of ´´electrochemical´´ HOMO-LUMO gap.

Mathematical notation is becoming more important as software is more often used in day-to-day life. Schools are starting to support e-learning, science is penetrating WWW and search engines can handle more complex questions. In the present work, I summarise the state-of-art of available applications which support mathematical input and could be used for graphical user interface (UI) of a mathematical search engine - EgoMath. Since none of the evaluated UIs meet our requirements, I present the design and implementation of yet another mathematical user interface focusing on the identified issues. The main goal of the new mathematical UI is to help the user provide input which will be well understood by the underlying application. Input symbols can be selected from a large domain using a limited set of keys. This must be intuitive and the application should actively aid in this task by providing graphical hints based on the input expression in real time.
Academical crise 1969 in Coimbra
Vondrašová, Jana ; Binková, Simona (advisor) ; Klíma, Jan (referee)
The diploma thesis Akademická krize 1969 v Coimbře (The 1969 Academic Crisis in Coimbra) discusses the Coimbra Academic Crisis in both the Portuguese and international contexts. The assessment of the validity of the thesis that the Portuguese student movement in the late 60s was a part of the international movement of '68 is based on the study of sociological theories of social movements and on the comparison with historical events in economically developed democratic countries - United States, Germany, France and Italy. Portuguese student movements were from the beginning connected with student organisations, the so-called associations, which were attempting to change the legislative framework of out-of-school activities. In the authoritative regime of António de Oliveira Salazar, the so-called New state, the primary function of universities was to raise ideologically conscious elites. The restrictive character of the above-mentioned legislative enabled government control of student life. The protest leaders usually maintained contacts with political opposition and subordinated the aims of the movement to the interests of the illegal Communist Party. As a rule, the government did not have difficulties dealing with the relatively small activist groups, and persecution by police led effectively to the...
Systém pro vektorizaci rastrových obrázků
Klíma, Jan ; Skopal, Tomáš (advisor) ; Kopecký, Michal (referee)
The task of shape extraction is very complex and hasn't yet been satisfactorily solved. Although there exist lots of algorithms for shape extraction, the mere knowledge of such techniques doesn't give us an answer what methods should be used and how to combine them in order to obtain robust extraction method. This thesis is devoted to creating a component system for image vectorization, which is designed to allow easy configuration of shape extraction data-flows. The system's description is followed by a component catalogue that offers basic algorithms for image processing, vectorization and vector output handling. Component configurations as well as typical network scenarios are covered briefly. The proposed system is then compared to similar applications.
The Use of Multichannel Flow Cytometry in Biomedicine and Experimental Biology
Kideryová, Linda ; Smetana, Karel (advisor) ; Elleder, Milan (referee) ; Klíma, Jiří (referee)
Flow-cytometry is a process on which large numbers of single cells are quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed. This method gives information about size, granularity surface or intracellular markers of every single cell in suspension. In modern biology is worthy to perform quick, objective multiparametric analyses of cell phenotype. This project was focused on cells, which analyses are complicated by extreme rareness or lack of clearly identifying specific markers. Analysis of stromal cells of the investigated tumors (histiocytoma and tumor fibroblasts originating in squamous epithelium: basalioma (BCCF) and spinalioma (SCCF) elucidated alteration of gene expression induced by tumor cells. Tumor-derived stromal fibroblasts acquire distinct properties to shape a microenvironment conducive to altering the phenotypic characteristics of normal epithelial cells in vitro. Reproducible, quick and highly sensitive method of detection extremely rare non-haematopoetic cells (EPC, CEC) was established. Numbers of CFU-En correlate neither with circulating endothelial progenitors nor with matured endothelial cells detected by flowcytometry. These colonies are formed in cooperation of CD14 + and CD4+ cells. Numbers of endothelial progenitors and matured endothelial cells are closely related with vessel endothelium...
Presence of Colonial Past in Contemporary Portugal
Tošnerová, Barbora ; Rovná, Lenka (advisor) ; Klíma, Jan (referee)
This diploma thesis, titled "Presence of Colonial Past in Contemporary Portugal", deals with how the Portuguese society has coped with their loss of the last colonies after the democratic revolution in the year 1974. Portugal belonged, along with Spain, to the first colonial powers in Europe and for long time - till the 20th century - the independence of colonies was for many Portuguese people unimaginable. Therefore a lot of them were surprised with the speedy decolonization of these territories after 1974. Investigation of reactions of Portuguese society to this change is based on the analysys of responses of its political and academic communities after the year 1976. Attitudes held by the wider society was demonstrated by the massive support of Portuguese to the former colony of East Timor during Semptember 1999. The approach of politicans is analysed in this work through their speeches during the key' historical moments, which influenced relations between Portugal and its former colonies during the years 1976-1996, as well as through government' programmes and comments in mass media. Analysis of academical discussion is concentrated mainly on the 1990s and present, when the colonial past has became a topic of great interest to many portuguese perits. A new field of academic interest, reffered...
