All conducted analyses make use of data from surveys carried out by CVVM and other departments of the Institute of Sociology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.
Abstract My thesis is a qualitative research using inductive methods. Its aim is to create a theory about management of equine tourism in two selected areas,...
Tourism and mechanism of its monitoring in Czechia
Ducháčková, Jana ; Melichar, Jan (advisor) ; Čermák, Daniel (referee)
The objective of this master's thesis is to examine a detailed summary of the present situation of visitor monitoring methods in large-scale protected areas in Czechia. Methods used in Czechia are introduced on 9 areas. The main research tools used were interviews with 8 key actors and a survey with the head managers of 4 national parks and 25 protected areas. The questionnaire survey was conducted in November and December 2011 and had 100 % return. This thesis presents comprehensive characteristics of the situation in Czechia including levels of monitoring methods. It seems that this study is the first of its kind which has been done in Czechia. Findings show that there is systematic quantitative visitor monitoring in Czech national parks, but that there is not in protected landscape areas. The majority of national park and protected area management do not have a standard certificated methodology for managing counting visitors. This means that their results cannot be compared. To promote better understanding of methods the text includes 22 examples of visitor counting done in chosen European countries and 9 examples from other non-European countries with the goal of summarizing which methods and technologies are available and suitable for use in Czechia. Finally, the evaluations of eight...
Controversy about Šumava: Strengths and weaknesses of the ecological principle of consensus
Chomátová, Eliška ; Stöckelová, Tereza (advisor) ; Čermák, Daniel (referee)
The thesis is based on a qualitative research realized in summer 2008 in several municipalities in Šumava. Focus groups organized within this research aimed at the relationship of different stakeholders to the Šumava National Park and more generally to nature and environmentalist thoughts and actors. The research design and the data gathered are presented in the introduction. Then the theory of general principles of consensus is described, which serves as the main theoretical framework for the study of focus groups participants' arguments. Using particular arguments, I show that against the protection of nature as it is realized by Šumava National Park Authority, critical citizens build their arguments on values that are considered legitimate and important in Czech society. The next part of the thesis studies the ecological principle of consensus as a new general principle of consensus: I discuss the conditions for existence of such a principle, its form in the controversy about the management of Šumava and the implications its form can have, supporting broader acceptance of the principle or, on the contrary, its rejection. An important point there is the relationship between expertise and participation, which are, together with the concept of nature, main elements of the ecological principle of...

The aim of my work is to show the problems of drug abuse in the village Ostrožská Nová Ves. In the main part I try to analyse the results of my research made among the inhabitants of the village during July and August 2006. Except their ideas I also used the statistics of the Czech police and the region Zlín. In my work I compare this information with the results of my research. The final chapter deals with the problems of prevention and prevention programmes in the village. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Řešátková, Kristina ; Novák, Arnošt (advisor) ; Čermák, Daniel (referee)
In my graduation thesis I've researched how mountain bicycling in today's era is viewed in areas with increased level of nature protection. Subject of my interest are actors who influence form of this growing free time activity that takes place in protected landscape area of Krivoklatsko countryside. My thesis is based on theories of Social construction of nature and Actor-network theory. Based on these theories I could approach the researched area as a system of human and nonhuman actors that create junctions between nature and our society. With qualitative analysis of interviews and documents I've discovered actor's interests and their mutual connections. I've also participated in discussions about main topics of mountain bicycling in protected landscape areas: tracks and trails that cyclists benefit from. My findings are used for final conclusion about possible development in case of declaring Krivoklatsko as national reservation park.

Jíchová, Jana ; Temelová, Jana (advisor) ; Čermák, Daniel (referee)
The main aim of this thesis is to discover how the inhabitants of Žižkov and Jarov perceive their place of residence in terms of the potentially risk places and safety. Following this aim the combination of qualitative and quantitative methods was used: questionnaire survey, interviews, statistical data analysis. The researches on fear of crime emphasize differentiation in the perception of fear by men and women and by various age groups, which is also reflected in this thesis. Further the focus is on identification of places which are often perceived as more hazardous and reasons which conduce to this perception. This research also tries to discover whether an overlap of places with higher incidence of crimes and localities which inhabitants perceive as the most hazardous exists. The thesis simultaneously brings closer the theme of fear and fear of crime, options to perceive living environment. The results proved that some localities, for example parks or deserted and deprived places, are perceived as hazardous. The research also pointed that women and some age groups strongly perceived the fear of crime and the overlap of places with higher incidence of crimes and localities perceived as dangerous exists.
