Geographical Aspects of Fruit and Vegetable Industry: Czechia in a Global Context
Járová, Hana ; Novotný, Josef (advisor) ; Kabrda, Jan (referee)
This thesis has two basic aims. The first aim is to analyze the global value chain of fruits and vegetables and the current international market with apples. The second aim is to analyze the value chain of apples in Czechia and measure its connection to global value chains. The research was carried out by analyzing secondary sources and basing on an own qualitative survey. This thesis is divided into two major parts. The first part deals with the global value chain (GVC) of fruits and vegetables. This chain is examined through five dimensions which are typical for GVC analysis: input-output structure, geographic scope, governance, institutional context and upgrading. The second part focuses only on one specific crop, apples. Firstly, it is studied at the global level, then the thesis concentrates only on the value chain of apples in Czechia.

Cahlíková, Markéta ; Hasman, Jiří (advisor) ; Kabrda, Jan (referee)
Sorting of municipal waste is considered to be a significant possibility for everyone to participate in more effective waste treatment, which helps to protect the environment. The main goal of this study is to find out which factors influence human decisions in the question of sorting or not-sorting waste. The analysis on the national level and in mikroregion Holešovsko was made with the purpose to achieve this goal. The results show the importance of several factors, the most important one being the level of achieved education. Other factors , which were found signifacant at least for one type of sorted waste, are the accessibility of containers, age 45-64, voting for Green party and longtitude of residence. The relative amount of sorted municipal waste in mikroregion Holešovsko is smaller than the average for the whole region Zlín. This fact may be partly explained by the differencies in sociodemographic structure.

Natural and societal driving forces of extensification of European and Czech landscape after 1990
Vojáček, Přemysl ; Kabrda, Jan (advisor) ; Rašín, Robin (referee)
This master thesis focuses on extensification of agricultural production and land use, and on driving forces and factors that influence this process. The research concentrates on land-use changes resulting from the extensification of agriculture (especially grassing-over and abandonment of agricultural land) in last twenty years. Emphasis is put on an analysis of driving forces of extensification processes that have an influence on land-use change. Factors with an impact on extensification are divided into natural and socio-economic ones. Natural factors are represented for example by air temperature, precipitation, altitude, slope, or soil productivity. As socio-economic ones we consider for instance the Common Agricultural Policy of the European Union, Gross Domestic Product, population density, spatial exposedness, or patterns of use and ownership of agricultural land. These factors are studied on European, Czech and local scales. Data for this research were collected from international and Czech databases; on the local level there was performed the author's own field research. Results of this thesis are obtained by quantitative research that demonstrate the main influence of natural driving forces on the process of extensification in Europe. Land-use changes related with extensification of agriculture...

Fendrych, Luboš ; Kofroň, Jan (advisor) ; Kabrda, Jan (referee)
As the bachelor's thesis topic it was chosen the theoretical analysis of U.S. intervention in Iraq in 2003. The primary objective of this study is the interpretation and analysis of factors leading to the initiation of Iraqi Freedom Operation through the theory of offensive realism and neoconservatism. This work tries to answer three basic questions: whether it is possible to explain the invasion of Iraq according to the theory of offensive realism; to what measure was U.S. foreign policy influenced by neoconservatism and if American behavior was rational or irrational from the perspective of power politics. The work is divided into three main parts. The first one deals with the issue of preference theories of international relations to geopolitical analysis in the case study. The second chapter contains the theoretical framework of this thesis, mainly the analysis of offensive realism theory and other aid theories leading to the processing of the third chapter, dealing with the case of military operations in Iraq. Key words United States of America, Iraq, offensive realism, relative power, neoconservatism
Spatial aspects of implementation of the Rural Development Programme in the Czech Republic: Modernisation of agricultural enterprises, cooperation of farmers, networks
Hrabák, Jiří ; Kabrda, Jan (advisor) ; Foltýn, Ivan (referee)
This master thesis focuses on the topic of agricultural subsidies and other issues related with agriculture policies and farmers' behaviour. Emphasis is laid on the importance of cooperation between farmers and the creation and institutionalization of their networks. The main aim of this study is to analyze spatial aspects of subsidies flowing from the first axis of Rural Development Programme (RDP) in the Czech Republic and then to compare, explain and verify the results with a research made among farmers in two model regions. The theoretical part of this study provides an outline of agricultural changes in Czech and European agriculture and discusses the most recent trends in multifunctional agriculture, rural development and networks. My research was carried out in two sections. In the first section I tried to evaluate regional differences in allocations of subsidies to Modernisation of Agricultural Enterprises (MAE; RDP, Axis I, measure 1.1.1.) in the Czech Republic between the years 2007 and 2010 on the level of districts (N = 77). I tried to explain these differences through the use of representative physical- and socio-geographical quantitative indicators. In the second section I conducted a qualitative survey (standardized interviews) with 22 farmers and 12 institutional actors in model areas of...
