Christou, Anna ; Vaňková, Irena (advisor) ; Pacovská, Jasňa (referee)
This thesis aims at the analysis of the image of woman in the Czech lingustic picture of the world. A special attention is paid to the issue of lingustic stereotypes connected to women. The theoretical and methodological framework for the analysis is provided by the principles of cognitive lingustics and ethnolingustics. The lingustic material the thesis works with consists of dictionary definitions from the Czech explanatory, etymological and synonimical dictionaries, as well as folk songs, proverbs, phrasems and anecdotes. Stereotypes connected to women are analysed in several different dimensions throughout the text. The thesis deals both with the typical characteristics of women in general and with those ascribed to them in various periods of life (young girl, old woman); those based on family relations (mother, mother-in-law, step-mother) as well as those determined by the relation with men (wife).

Kobesová, Alena ; Vaňková, Irena (advisor) ; Janovec, Ladislav (referee)
This bachelor's thesis is focused on exploring of home conceptualization by Czech native speakers of different ages (preschool children, students, adults). It aims to supplement information identified in the context of international comparative EUROJOS research - Linguistic and cultural picture of the world of Slavs and their neighbors. It's methodologically based on cognitive linguistics and etnolinguistics. It verifies the conceptualization of home based on my questionnaire which was inspired by ongoing research within the EUROJOS project. This survey will be modified; representatives of different age groups are assigned to it. Preschool children are included to this project too and their conceptualization is verified through drawings. In this bachelor's thesis the current results of my own empirical survey are compared with theoretical solutions.

Basovníková, Marie ; Vaňková, Irena (advisor) ; Macurová, Alena (referee)
Topic of this thesis is the stereotype of a hearing person from the perspective of cultural and linguistic minority of the Deaf and how it is fixated in Czech Sign Language. The theoretical and methodological basis of the thesis lies in cognitive ethnolinguistic of J. Bartmiński and following its principles includes lexicon (analyses individual signs, collocations and idioms connected to the concept of HEARING) as well as text. On this level, different texts are explored: everyday communication in Czech Sign Language, artistic genres (storytelling, visual vernacular, fairy tales, humor, films) and texts written in Czech by Deaf authors. The stereotype of a hearing person thus reconstructed from these sources reflects various experiences of the cultural minority of the Deaf with hearing persons - both positive and negative (especially communication and behavior specific to hearing persons from the viewpoint of the Deaf).

E. G. Dolgikh Comparative study of color categories in Russian and Czech. Cognitive and Cultural Approach Summary The purpose of the study was to describe the contents of the selected categories of colors («Синий цвет», «Голубой цвет», «Коричневый цвет», «Серый цвет», «Розовый цвет», «Оранжевый цвет», «Фиолетовый цвет», «Modrá barva», «Hnědá barva», «Šedá barva», «Růžová barva», «Oranžová barva», «Fialová barva») using the example of their basic terms (синий, голубой, коричневый, серый, розовый, оранжевый, фиолетовый, modrý, hnědý, šedý, růžový, oranžový, fialový) in Russian and Czech, as well as to reveal the specifics of color vision of the world of Czech and Russian speakers by comparing the obtained data. In this study we chose to use the cognitive and cultural approach to the language where, for example, the lexical meaning of the word is viewed as a holistic image, a realized physical and sensual experience. The nature of the study has cultural linguistic tone, because, first of all, it examines the facts of the language and helps in making linguistic conclusions, and, secondly, - the results of the study allow us to make some conclusions about the social and cultural characteristics of Russians and Czechs. The study is based on analysis of contexts where selected color terms are used in the artistic...
Metaphor in Czech sign language
Šůchová, Lucie ; Vaňková, Irena (advisor) ; Nebeská, Iva (referee)
Problem of metaphors in Czech Sign Language is handled from a cognitive linguistic approach to language point of view, especially in term of the conceptual metaphor theory, which was formulated by Lakoff and Johnson. The explanation of specifics of the iconic and metaphoric mapping in signed languages is based on recent theoretical works dealing with American Sign Language. Principles of metaphors behavior in signed languages are illustrated on many metaphoric linguistic expressions from Czech Sign Language, which realize eight conventionally conceptual metaphors - (1) orientational metaphors: MORE IS UP, GOOD IS UP, POWERFUL IS UP, THE FUTURE IS AHEAD, THE PAST IS BEHIND, (2) ontological metaphors: MIND IS A CONTAINER, IDEA S ARE OBJECTS and (3) structural metaphor: COMMUNICATION IS SENDING.
Semantic analysis of selected Czech verbal prefixes
Lehoučková, Zuzana ; Vaňková, Irena (advisor) ; Lehečková, Eva (referee)
Cognitive linguistics differs from other linguistic approaches in its assumption that linguistic relations and processes reflect conceptual relations and proceses. Cognitive linguists are interested especially in the conceptual background of language structure. This paper is an attempt to describe and explain semantic characteristics of Czech verbal prefixes (of prefix vy- in particular) taking cognitive principles into account, such as categorization, prototype, profiling, embodiment, construal, conceptual integration, metaphor. This approach should be able to identify previously unnoticed semantic relations and show diverse realizations of the prefix as extensions from a single core meaning. Langacker's cognitive grammar is used as the most importatnt theoretical basis.
Linguistic picture of wind in Czech
Zápotocká, Pavlína ; Vaňková, Irena (advisor) ; Nebeská, Iva (referee)
The paper analyses a part of the linguistic picture of the world in Czech by means of methods of cognitive and cultural linguistics. It deals with an analysis of the linguistic picture of wind in contemporary Czech. Individual chapters illustrate how native-born Czech speakers perceive phenomena around themselves, how they think and speak about wind (and air as a related phenomenon). The analysis is divided into two parts. The first part analyses the linguistic picture of wind from the point of view of the system. It examines its lexical definitions, derivatives and its paradigmatic and syntagmatic relationships. The first part deals likewise with etymology of selected words and discusses the designation of wind in Czech dialects and idioms and in old Czech, thereby contributes to a great degree in illuminating the current vocabularies pertaining to wind and related phenomena. The excerptions of historical semantics based on contemporary literary and lexicographic products can also demonstrate the changes and shifts of meaning. The second part examines the linguistic picture of wind in contemporary Czech. It aims, first of all, at the analysis of metaphors adherent to wind. Primarily it observes wind as an aiming field. Chapter 2. 4 shows that we comprehend the very abstract notion of wind metaphorically,...
Aphasic language production: a linguistic analysis
Flanderková, Eva ; Vaňková, Irena (advisor) ; Nebeská, Iva (referee)
Tato práce je pokusem přiblížit některé zvláštnosti užívání jazyka, které jsou spojeny s komunikací afatiků. Je rozšířenou verzí původní práce Jazyk a zvláštnosti v dorozumívání afatiků, která vyšla v časopise Jazykovědné aktuality (roč. XLI, 2004, Č. 1 a 2). Nově jsou vloženy kapitoly o agramatismu (kap. 4.2) a tzv. náhradních komunikačních strategiích (kap. 5.0). Dále jsou podány transkripty mluvených projevů afatiků (viz Přílohy) a jejich lingvistické rozbory (kap. 7.0-11.0). Práce obsahuje možná spíše otázky než odpovědi; podnětem k ní bylo setkání s afatickou řečí a afatickými mluvčími. Vycházím z odborné literatury, z videozáznamů mluvených projevů afatických pacientů a z osobní zkušenosti s českými afatiky. Zvláštní jevy afatické řeči, které práce představuje, by neměly být chápány jako typické vlastnosti jakékoliv afatické řeči; cílem je vzbudit prostřednictvím rozborů některé (nejen) afaziologické otázky (viz Diskuse, kap. 12.0).
