Činí nás žárlivost druhých šťasnými?
Svatoš, Jiří ; Stroukal, Dominik (advisor) ; Špecián, Petr (referee)
The relative income is often cited as a reason why happiness of nations does not grow in time with growing GDP. The study replicates the methodology of several different researchers from basic scatterplots, standard OLS and ordered probit models to hierarchical linear multilevel models (HLM). The results provide evidence that the happiness is actually rising with the growing GDP, although slowly and with the GDP measured in logarithm. On the contrary, the relevance of relative income to happiness is ambiguous through all the proposed models. Furthermore, the individual characteristics like marital status or employment status are proved to explain the differences in happiness much better than income. Finally it is shown that income has similar effects on different measurements of subjective well-being (health, happiness and emotional well-being).

In my bachelor disertation, I want to outline a broad and complex overview of photography and its history in Africa in social-culture context - starting with first pioneers and travellers, continue to early nature documentarists up to origin of temporary commercial so called "photographic safari". The goal is not only to draw a complex historical line, but also to mention technical obstacles, to consider pro-and-con of todays photo-tourism and, last but not least, point out the most important turning-points which were affecting and still affects our world´s history in pictures a lot. For example, the early wildlife photographers during the 20´s and 30´s in 21st century come with the wildlife photographing as an alternative to the thosetimes popular hunting safari, which had brought plenty of species to the extinction . With the help of photography, things got starting to be moving right way.
Religion and Voting Turnout
Svatoš, Jiří ; Chalupníček, Pavel (advisor) ; Mičúch, Marek (referee)
The thesis combines previous economic theory of information, Putnam's theory of correlation between "associational life" and politics and economic theory of differences between churches and sects. This combination provides new point of view on dependence between political participation and religion derived from economic theory. The theory is applied on Czech data, concretely the data from the International Social Survey Program (ISSP) 1998 on Religion. The results are consistent with theory and show that sectarianism has negative effect on political participation with the exception of voting. However, the indirect effect of sectarianism (through "associational life") is also found.
Monitoring of seismic impact on historical buildings and thier damage during building the tunnel Blanka – especially influence on the stability of historical buildings in the Prague Castle area
Brož, Milan ; Štrunc, Jaroslav ; Svatoš, J.
The persistence of unique historical buildings is restricted due to weathering of construction material enhanced by meteorological processes such as storms, driving rain and temperature variations beneath the freezing point. Dynamic forces endangering the mechanical stability of exposed elements of building structures could be caused by impacts of seismic waves.
