Study of student groups on Facebook focused on two different methods of data collection
Stavárek, Filip ; Růžička, Jakub (advisor) ; Remr, Jiří (referee)
The work focuses on student groups on Facebook, their structure, the highly acclaimed users and types of posts being posted in the groups. All those aspects are being observed by different methods, online survey and data mining. The main goal is to compare those methods of data collection and observe, whether are findings comparable and if, to what extend. The other goal is to highlight unique aspects of each of methods. Based on the results it is safe to say that the findings of both methods are interchangeable in limited extend. Those limitations are based on different approach to data collection. Each of chosen methods offer different advantages which ought to be considered while deciding one or another method. While one of advantages of web surveys is the ability to work with paradata and ask possibly on anything, data mining from Facebook offer the possibility to work with big data and their analysis. The main benefit of work is the demonstrational usage of both methods to better understand the limits of findings. Thus the reader will gain better idea when use one or another method. This diploma thesis is concerned with the possibilities of the social web data employment in social sciences. Its theoretical part describes the changes in education in the context of the dynamics of contemporary society within three fundamental (interrelated) dimensions of technology (the cause and/or the tool for the change), work (new models of collaboration), and economics (sustainability of free & open-source business models). The main methodological part of the thesis is focused on the issues of sampling, sample representativeness, validity & reliability assessment, ethics, and data collection of the emerging social web research in social sciences. The research part includes illustrative social web analyses and conclusions of the author's 2014 Coursera & Khan Academy on the Social Web research and provides the full research report in its attachement to compare its results to the theoretical part in order to provide a "naive" (as derived from the social web mentions and networks) answer to the fundamental question: "How to Create Self-Driven Education?" Techn(olog)ical Revolution in Education: Practices and Attitudes of Ninth Grade Pupils to Education and Autodidacticism within the Reforming System of Education
Růžička, Jakub ; Remr, Jiří (advisor) ; Buchtík, Martin (referee)
Jakub Růžička Techn(olog)ická revoluce ve vzdělávání: zvyklosti a postoje žáků devátých tříd ZŠ ke studiu a samostudiu uvnitř reformujícího se školství Bakalářská práce Abstract The impossibility of mastering the entire existing knowledge of humankind, which means entire knowledge that has been produced up to know, by independent and individual human being, and also the development and massive expansion of computer technologies and the Internet, imply the necessity of rethinking current educational practices. Despite that, implementing new means of education, progressive didactic methods and crossing the boundaries of study and self-study, is being obstructed by institutional conventional educational system and related methods. Even thought the system responds to the transformation of the labour market, it does not put the main emphasis on information technologies, which are great facilitators in achieving these goals. The ongoing reform of the Czech educational system has the spirit of broader European reforms. This dissertation is concerned with description of the current trend, implementation of new educational methods and associated stances and attitudes of ninth grade pupils, who are one of the first generation in the Czech Republic which has been affected by the revolution in IT and by the above...
Analysis of factors influencing the crime in the city of Liberec
Růžička, Jakub ; Spilková, Jana (advisor) ; Vávra, Jaroslav (referee)
This thesis deals with crime in the urban environment, focusing on the city of Liberec. The basic approaches to urban studies and the basic theories of criminality are mentioned in the theoretical background. The results of various Czech and foreign studies dealing with the same topic are also mentioned. The methodological section contains the explanation of statistical analyses based on the data obtained from the Police and Czech statistical office and from guided interviews with members of the Police and the Municipality of Liberec. The main aim of the thesis is to define characteristics which influence crime and its location in the urban space, and to sketch out what the best crime prevention in the urban space could be. In the empirical part of the thesis firstly, the most frequent offenders and the most frequent types of crime are identified. Then, the influence of the residents' characteristics and the characteristics of urban environment on the crime rates are considered in the subsequent analyses. These analyses are grouped into three factors called the socioeconomic conditions of residents, the living conditions and the quality of flats. The results of the analyses are combined with the outcomes of guided interviews to form the final conclusions. The first one is that crime in Liberec is mainly...
The tube lights starter
Růžička, Jakub ; Šteffan, Pavel (referee) ; Pavlík, Michal (advisor)
This thesis is about design of the electronic ballast used for starting and dimming six 40 W fluorescent lamps. Controlling is provided by button and analog input. In the work it is used micro-controller which controls excitation circuit of transistors in the half-bridge driver IR2104. The electronic ballast is created for two fluorescent lamps with possibility to add other modules. Behavior of the ballast was simulated, and then it was measured on constructed devices.
A Tool for VoIP Audio Extraction
Ružička, Jakub ; Ryšavý, Ondřej (referee) ; Matoušek, Petr (advisor)
In this thesis, we describe VoIP protocols and design of a system to reconstruct audio data from VoIP communication. The system is able to detect VoIP packet streams in an IP network traffic and assemble an audio signal they carry. RTP and IAX VoIP protocols are supported. Unlike widespread RTP protocol, IAX is not fully supported by available tools although it is used by increasingly popular Asterisk communications project and offers interesting features not found in RTP. The system is implemented as a library with minimal frontend.
Adaptation of heatable tribometric tool for series testing
Růžička, Jakub ; Drossel, Welf-Guntram (referee) ; Blecha, Petr (advisor)
