Query databases and web
Král, Michal ; Pokorný, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Galamboš, Leo (referee)
Databases and web are two environments, where searching is used the most. In addition one group of developers draw on the experience of the other one in solving a lot of problems. In majority of projects, both sources of information stay isolated and synchronous convey from both is rather exception. This dissertation follow integration of internet searchers directly into SQL queries. Besides partly analysing papers connecting both subjects, it describes technical aspects of this connection, including method of asynchronous iteration. The gist of this paper lay in realization of three functions, which call web searcher and at the same are suited for use in DB queries. Selected functions are www_rank, which returns relevancy of phrase, then it is www_near, which returns relative relationship of two phrases and the last one is agregation function www_best_address, which returns the best common link for group of phrases. For this purpose we chose database server Oracle 10g and Jyxo.cz web searcher.

Nativní indexování rozsáhlých XML databází
Bartoš, Tomáš ; Skopal, Tomáš (advisor) ; Pokorný, Jaroslav (referee)
In the present work we study the indexing methods for large XML databases and their time efficiency when evaluating path queries. There are several ways of indexing XML data but we focus on indexing root- to-leaf paths and grouping them according to the common criteria, path labels. We study the existing methods and combine them in order to create the iXUPT, a novel native indexing concept using path templates, which leverages advantages of current approaches. We provide two variations of our solution depending on the way of handling ancestor-descendant relationships. The first one uses the proposed numbering scheme, while the second one relies on the Rho-Index structure. Furthermore, we prove the feasibility of our concept by the implemented prototype and by evaluating sample regular path expressions represented by XPath queries. We compare the variations between each other and also with other solutions.
Fuzzy database based on an E-R schema
Plachý, Milan ; Pokorný, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Kopecký, Michal (referee)
This text is especialy intended to those who are interested into fuzzy logic and its application in relational databases. It is mainly focused on concept of fuzzyfied relational database and implementation of such database. This text consists of two parts: theoretical aspects of fuzzyfication and implementation part. Selected extension is based on fuzzy E-R model so the requirements of the real world can be better met. This paper also describes existing solutions on different level of fuzzyfication. Part of the work is design and implementation of a simple software for querying over fuzzyfied relational database. This work shoud also serve as a guide for design and implementation of fuzzy database.
Querying relational databases through XSLT
Mareš, Jiří ; Pokorný, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Richta, Karel (referee)
XML is becoming standard for information representing and data interchange. A question has arisen if it would be possible to combine simplicity and user friendliness of XML and its querying languages together with performance of relational databases, has arisen. There are several proposals how to carry this connection out. The aim of this thesis is to inspect one of these proposals, eventually modify it and then implement it. The inspected proposal stores XML data into relational database based on knowledge of XML DTD and subsequently queries them using XSLT. XSLT queries will be transformed to SQL queries using DTD of XML data stored in database and a way to transform data back to XML will be suggested.
Relational Modeling of Biological Data
Krejčík, Roman ; Pokorný, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Toman, Kamil (referee)
Some applications of data processing in database systems work with hierarchically structured data. Information of such kind is often present in biological data, but it can be also found in another scope. An efficient execution of queries specific for hierarchy needs proper representation of graph structures in a relational database. This thesis deals with a description of known methods for storing of hierarchical data into a relational database. It aims particularly to distinct properties of separate methods and examines fitness of usage for various hierarchies. The thesis includes experiments with real collections of biological data, which are used to compare effectiveness of particular methods in practical way.
Representing XML data by C-store
Částková, Zuzana ; Pokorný, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Holubová, Irena (referee)
C-store environment - relational database storing records on the disk by columns. Suitable for aggregations, optimalized for reading. Can it be effectively used as XML database? This thesis considers XML data with and without a schema. Database model is generated from a XML file for both cases. A measure of the model suitability is the possibility of making quick XPath queries. Ancestor, child, younger sibling - these are just some of the discussed XPath axes. Low level system enabling the estimation of number of jumps needed on drive is characteristic for algorithms for each axis. Result? Schema for XML data does not seem useful. Regarding the data without a schema, the use of C-store seems to be optimal. But ... Addition of certain functionality to the system would also be appropriate here - direct access to elements, possibility of not reading the whole column. The thesis extends the definition of C-store with these principles, and adds experiments with real data. The conclusion provides an example implementation of selected algorithms that might be used as guidance for further implementation.

Lurcher mutant mice represent a model of olivocerebellar degeneration. They are heterozygots carrying a mutation in the glutamate receptor 52-subunit gene. The receptor malfunction causes excitotoxic apoptosis of Purkinje cells, extinction of which leads to secondary degeneration of cerebellar granule cells and inferior olive neurons. Lurcher mutants suffer from ataxia and deterioration of spatial learning and orientation ability. The aim of the work was to assess the effect of embryonic cerebellar tissue transplantation and enforced physical activity as well as the effect of their combination on spatial orientation ability in Lurcher mutant mice and to observe cerebellar graft survival in adult and young Lurcher and adult wild type mice. For the graft survival analysis adult wild type mice and young and adult Lurcher B6CBA mice were used. To study the effect of the transplantation and enforced activity on spatial orientation adult and young Lurchers of the same strain were used. The graft obtained from mouse embryos without the Lurcher mutation was applied into the cerebellar area of the host as solid pieces. Control mice were treated only with vehicle. Enforced activity was represented with repeated rotarod training. Spatial orientation was tested in the Morris maze 9 weeks after the surgery. Histological...
Cognitive and emotional abnormalities in cerebellar mutant mice
Tůma, Jan ; Vožeh, František (advisor) ; Pokorný, Jaroslav (referee) ; Delgado García, José María (referee)
3 SUMMARY Hereditary cerebellar ataxias represent a heterogeneous group of neurodegenerative disorders. Variability of human hereditary ataxias is also reflected in animal models of cerebellar disorders. The most frequently used animal models are Lurcher and Purkinje cell degeneration (pcd) mutant mice. The main aim of this thesis was to analyze and compare the spatial and emotional behavior of these cerebellar mutants. Additional aims were to study the impact of abnormal behavior on breeding capacity in Lurcher mice and to assess the applicability of cerebellar mutants as models for experimental therapy of cerebellar degeneration. We have confirmed several behavioral impairments in both Lurcher and pcd mutant mice. Nevertheless, we have found that the manifestation of spatial behavior deficit is different in these two cerebellar mutants. Based on our findings, we propose that the deficit of spatial performance in cerebellar mutants may potentially arise from a combination of 1) cognitive disturbances, 2) sensory deficits, 3) motor impairments, and finally, 4) affective disorder. Moreover, resulting spatial behavior could also be modified by the specific effect of mutation, genetic background, and sex. We have also shown that abnormal behavior, e.g. maternal infanticide leads to decreased breeding...
Neuromodulation-the importance ofpostoperativeepiduralfibrosis
Masopust, Václav ; Pokorný, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Suchomel, Petr (referee) ; Hakl, Marek (referee)
Background Epidural fibrosis (EF) is defined as nonphysiological scar formation, usually at the site of neurosurgical access into the spinal canal, in intimate vicinity to and around the origin of the radicular sheath. From the very onset, EF behaves as a reparative inflammation causing, as a rule, symptoms of characteristic nature and clinical course (pain). Treatment of epidural fibrosis causing failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS) by neuromadulation technique is very expensive. Finding of suitable parameters for the indication of treatment is therefore very important. Aims The study is based on evidence of the importance of epidural fibrosis for the development of chronic pain. Research is also focused on the comparison of the range fibrosis and the effect of stimulation (spinal cord stimulation - SCS). The goal is to find a suitable selection factor for the indication of neuromodulation. Methods I. A double-blind prospective study was conducted to investigate a cohort of 200 patients requiring surgical treatment for intervertebral disc hernia (hernia disci intervertebralis). The patients were randomly and blindly divided into 2 groups, one on peroperatively applied local doses of a mixture containing corticosteroids, the other without such medication. All the requirements of a double-blind...
