Mental health, its diagnosis and therapy in people with hearing impairment

This thesis was created for the purpose of obtaining closer knowledge of the mental health of people with hearing impairment. At the same time, it also deals with psychological diagnostics and therapy for people with hearing impairment in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part is divided into three thematic groups. The first area describes the issue of hearing impairment, its classification and more detailed information regarding prelingual and postlingual hearing impairments. Furthermore, it also describes the field of mental health, which focuses more precisely on the description of mental health in individual stages of life, the process of coping with a disability, and the psyche of the parents of a hearing-impaired child. The last segment of the theoretical part is a description of psychological intervention, which is further divided into psychological diagnosis and psychological therapy. In the practical part, there is a qualitative research investigation based on semi-structured interviews conducted with six informants with hearing loss aged 20-35. This diploma thesis deals with speech skills, the skills associated with speech, and children's maturity and readiness for school before starting Year 1 of primary school. Besides, it discusses the methods applied in the children's preparation for school entry. The theoretical part of this work focuses on maturity and readiness for school, and on the other hand immaturity and unreadiness, their diagnosis and deferred school entry. Furthermore, it specifies the characteristics of a pre-school child, describing their motor, cognitive, social and motivational-volitional development. The last section of this part deals with a pre-schooler's communication, and with the language, speech and communication according to the framework educational programme for pre-school education. It also studies the development of communication, risk factors of speech development, communication disorders and a child with communication disorders in nursery school. The introduction to the practical part presents the objectives and the methodology of qualitative research and describes the research sample. Besides, it includes the process, evaluation, and results of a pre-schooler's diagnosis and of a preliminary test of a pre-schooler's maturity. Formation of Professional Identity of Speech Therapy Students

The master thesis "Formation of professional identity of speech therapy students" is focused on the formation, specifics and reflection of professional identity of speech therapy students in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part focuses on the topics of professional identity, speech therapy studies and the speech therapy profession in general. It also describes psychological and developmental aspects related to the period of emerging adulthood and its relation to professional identity. The empirical part of the thesis presents a mixed research design working with the analysis of qualitative interview data and its connection with quantitative questionnaire data coming from final year students of the follow-up master's degree in speech therapy at the Faculty of Education of Charles University (n = 20). The results of the research provide a number of findings about the influences and circumstances that contribute to the formation of the professional identity of these students, about their relationship to the profession of speech therapy and about the prospects that students have towards their professional future. Employment access of people with hearing disorder in the Pilsen region

My thesis deals with the employment opportunities of people with hearing impairment in the Plzen region job market. The theory part defines the term hearing impairment, also the communication forms of people with hearing impairment, as well as their professional employment and related restrictions issue. The practical part of my thesis is focused on the employment of people with hearing impairment in the Plzen region job market. The research objective focuses on finding out the situation on the labor market for people with hearing impairment, their applicability on the labor market, problems arising from their impairment and possible solutions that would lead to an improvement of the situation. For research survey was chosen mixed research design, the questionnaire survey method was used supplemented by a controlled interview with selected informants. The results of the survey pointed to the problems faced by the hearing impaired disability when looking for a job, as well as possible solutions and recommendations for practice. School maturity and preparedness from the point of view of speech therapists

This diploma thesis focuses on school maturity and preparedness from the perspective of speech-language therapists. The theoretical part focuses on the preschool child, his characteristics, and growth in all areas, including speech. Furthermore, it introduces speech disorders in preschool children by describing what impaired communication skills are and also discusses the most common speech disorders among preschool children. The thesis also presents information about speech therapy prevention, stating what its principles are, and also introduces preschool education in the context of speech therapy prevention. The last chapter deals with the child's preparation for entering the first grade, explains the difference between school maturity and school preparedness and introduces school immaturity and school deferrals. The practical part is prepared with the help of a qualitative research investigation, where a structured interview with open questions was used. Speech therapy intervention in institutional education

The diploma thesis on the topic "Speech therapy intervention in institutional education" deals with the issue of implementation of speech therapy intervention for children growing up in institutional education and requiring speech therapy. The individual chapters of the theoretical part focus on speech and its functions; describe the ontogenetic development of speech, impaired communication ability, and briefly characterise different types of impairment. The theoretical part deals with the speech therapy intervention in its entirety, i.e. diagnostics, therapy, and prevention. It also includes a short insight into the speech therapy intervention system in other countries. Lastly, the theoretical part of the work focuses on the area of substitute educational care and describes its influence on the development of the child. The practical part aimed to find out information about the implementation of speech therapy in selected institutional education facilities in Prague and the Central Bohemian Region. Education of hearing impaired elementary school students during the world pandemic of COVID-19

Master's thesis "Education of hearing impaired elementary school students during the world pandemic of covid-19" is analyzing changes in the czech educational system during the said pandemic. The theoretical part of master's thesis describes the educational system of hearing impaired students, the historical context behind it, the legislative basis and modern trends in this specific educational branch. Furthermore there are explained communication systems used by the hearing impaired. In the last chapter of the first part there is description of the covid-19, its course and spreading and the extraordinary measures in educational systém taken by the government. The practical part is based on informants' statements in semi-structured interview. These informants were recruited amongst teachers, parents and students, who were actively involved in educational process during the pandemic of covid-19. The aim of this thesis is analyzing the impact of taken measures from diferent perspectives of teachers, parents and hearing impaired students. The research reveals how the unprecedented situation was by showing how unprepaired all focus groups were.
