New synagogue Česká Lípa
Prachař, Jakub ; Velek, Jan (referee) ; Dulenčín, Juraj (advisor)
This diploma thesis deals with the design of a new synagogue in Česká Lípa. The subject of the solution is also the design of a Jewish community center, a kosher restaurant and a museum of Jewish culture. An architectural study of A2 format and a reduced copy of A3 format were prepared. A presentation poster in B1 format and an architectural design model in 1: 200 scale were made. When designing the complex, I emphasized the main visual axes from the street to the building. The synagogue is designed as the dominant feature of the whole complex - it is elevated above the other masses of the building. The complex is designed as a single-story mass with a square floor plan. The individual corners are elevated above the other mass. Each of the corners responds with its mass to the internal traffic. In the middle of the complex is a square outdoor courtyard. The expression of the object is to express purity and simplicity - that is why light shades have been designed. The surfaces are covered with white plaster and the concrete surfaces are designed with exposed white concrete. Gold brass elements are designed here as a reference to Jewish wealth.
New synagogue in Opava
Odstrčilová, Jana ; Benedek, Borislav (referee) ; Dulenčín, Juraj (advisor)
The diploma project handles the design of the synagogue and buildings of the Jewish community in Opava. The project is formed as an architectural study. Apart from the synagogue, the design also includes a mixed-use building under the administration of the Jewish community. This building combines several departments – a kosher restaurant, which is adapted to prepare meals according to Jewish eating habits, workshop rooms, administration of the Jewish community and community library. These departments are supplemented by temporary accommodation and starter flats for students and by two commercial units. The entire complex is complemented by underground parking and the necessary technical facilities. There was an original synagogue in the area, which was burned down by the Nazis and the only remnant here is the building of the former rabbinic house, now serving as the seat of the Christian Association. The basis of the concept is the legible urbanism of the design, which connects the polyfunctional building to the block type design of the surrounding buildings, allowing the synagogue itself to stand out as a solitary object. Its orientation creates a public space with the entrances to the synagogue and the outside seating of kosher restaurant. An architectural language of simple lines was chosen for both objects. The contrast and emphasis on the importance of the synagogue over the other object is achieved by the used materials. The monolithic reinforced concrete skeleton was chosen as the construction principle, the layout is different according to the departments of the individual parts of the design.

The Forum will be housed in refurbished premises of the Museum of Modern Art on Denisova Street and a new building erected on the neighbouring vacant lot, which was created when five historical burgher houses were demolished in 1969.The forum will be focused on collecting, exhibiting and publishing activities regarding various representations of Central European art, with special attention paid to modern and contemporary art. ‘Forum’ is much wider term than, for instance, ‘museum’ or ‘gallery’ – apart from its essential activities, various discussions, lectures, symposiums, and other events will also be organised. Proposed area is located in the heart of Olomouc city, directly in its conservation area and therefore it was crucial to take into consideration the existing historical development in neighbourhood. In the development of concrete structures and its finishes we are constantly looking for new ways to highlight the aesthetic value of the concrete. With all the possibilities of shapes, textures and colours, an architectural concrete in the hands of an architect and designer becomes a material, which can be used to express different individual and specific ideas. It is necessary to recognize and cope with these possibilities, but also the limits, which determine the properties of concrete as the proper design and implementation creates excellent finishes that are otherwise inaccessible to other materials and technologies. The theoretical part includes an extensive summary carries out a research on issues of architectural concrete and its production. From this research comes a new definition of architectural concrete and the newly redesigned and determined classes of architectural concrete with respect to the continuous development of technologies and production possibilities, rendering and surfacing. The aim of the thesis is to verify the possibilities of producing quality architectural concrete and additional treatment of the surface with respect to the desired aesthetic quality.
