The center offers a restaurant, a café, multifunctional halls, a coworking area, a public workroom, an extensive exhibition area and an accommodation.
Utilization of Cone Beam CT for Reconstruction of Dose Distribution Delivered in Image-guided Radiotherapy of Prostate Carcinoma - Bony Landmark Setup Compared to Fiducial Markers Setup
Paluska, Petr ; Hanuš, Josef (advisor) ; Doležel, Martin (referee) ; Podzimek, František (referee)
The purpose of my doctoral thesis was to compare two different styles of prostate image- guided radiotherapy: bony landmark (BL) setup vs. fiducial markers (FM) setup. Twenty-nine prostate patients were treated with daily BL setup and 30 patients with daily FM setup. Delivered dose distribution was reconstructed on cone-beam CT (CBCT) acquired once a week immediately after the alignment. Target dose coverage was evaluated by the proportion of the CTV encompassed by the 95% isodose. Original plans employed 1 cm safety margin. Alternative plans assuming smaller 7 mm margin between CTV and PTV were evaluated in the same way. Rectal and bladder volumes were compared with initial ones. While the margin reduction in case of BL setup makes the prostate coverage significantly worse (p = 0.0003, McNemar's test), in case of FM setup with the reduced 7 mm margin, the prostate coverage is even better compared to BL setup with 10 mm margin (p = 0.049, Fisher's exact test). Moreover, partial volumes of organs at risk irradiated with a specific dose can be significantly lowered (p < 0.0001, unpaired t-test). Reducing of safety margin is not acceptable in case of BL setup, while the margin can be lowered from 10 mm to 7 mm in case of FM setup.
The 2008 Russia-Georgia War. Russia's Dilemma
Doležel, Martin ; Ditrych, Ondřej (advisor) ; Střítecký, Vít (referee)
Russian government justified the war with Georgia by a set of normatively-legislative arguments. Intervention in Georgia was in accordance to those arguments legitimate. This rationalization proved to be invalid. Main goal of this diploma thesis was therefore to find Russian motives for the war with Georgia. Our hypothesis was that the reaction to Georgian military operation in South Ossetia was a result of a certain dilemma in Russian government. We used two methodological concepts introduced in the book of Graham T. Allison "Essence of Decision: Explaining the Cuban Missile Crisis" for the analysis. The first model, "rational actor", presumes that countries act in the international relations always rationally. "Rational actor" showed that Russian reaction was a result of the rational choice - Russia evaluated military confrontation with Georgia as the most advantageous alternative. The governments' behavior is in accordance to the second model, "organizational process", always limited by behavior of their parts - organizations. The second model revealed that the Russian reaction was result of activated programs, whose character led to massive military action. Our analysis showed that the model which fits better in the case of finding motives of Russian government for the intervention in Georgia...
Simultaneous integrated boost in the treatment of localized prostate cancer
Doležel, Martin ; Odrážka, Karel (advisor) ; Šlampa, Pavel (referee) ; Kovařík, Josef (referee)
The purpose of my doctoral thesis was to compare acute and late toxicity after three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy to the prostate to 74 Gy with intensity-modulated radioterapy (IMRT) to 78 Gy and IMRT using simultaneus integrated boost to 82 Gy. Ninety-four patients treated with conformal radiotherapy to the prostate and base of seminal vesicles to 74 Gy represented the first group. The second group consisted of 138 patients irradiated with IMRT covering the prostate and base of seminal vesicles to 78 Gy. The last group was treated with IMRT using simultaneus integrated boost. The prescribed doses were 82 Gy and 73. 8 Gy in 42 fractions to prostate and to seminal vesicles. Late toxicity was prospectively scored according to the RTOG/FC-LENT scale. Acute gastrointestinal toxicity Grade 2 or greater occured in 35.1% patients treated with 3D-CRT, 16% with IMRT 78 and 7.7% using IMRT/SIB 82. Acute urogenital toxicity Grade 2 or greater was presented in 26.6% (3D-CRT), 33% (IMRT 78) and 30.7% (IMRT/SIB 82). At 3 years, the estimated cumulative incidence of Grade 3 late gastrointestinal toxicity was 14% for 3D-CRT, 5% for IMRT 78 and 2% for IMRT/SIB 82. The difference became significant (log rank p=0.02). The estimated cumulative incidence of Grade 3 late urogenital toxicity was 9% (3D-CRT), 7%...
The newest data from the research literature about estrogen and progesterone receptors in the uterus cancer
Ježková, Alena ; Kovařík, Miroslav (advisor) ; Doležel, Martin (referee)
We take up previous thesis of place of supervizor workplace, which are targeted on ER, PR expresion in uterus carcinomas and their potencional practical exploitation by this thesis. We have limited this broad issue for only endometrial carcinomas, because the cervix ones are tackled in a thesis of Lenka Nespěchalová. We have searched out information from abroad and Czech literatures to upgrade previous review thesis of the supervizor workplace. Unfortunately the Czech literature doesn't dispose of so much clinical studies as foreign ones. We have observed tendency of Czech work places to publish the studies on the strength of foreign experiences. We have take up especially Marešková B. thesis, 2008 by this our one. We have brought out the same data of our issue as Marešková. It's important not only to established total levels of steroid receptors, but as well as rates of individual isoforms PRA/PRB and ERα/ERβ. Generally, progesterons are noted for their protective antiproliferative effect in endometrium, in detail the transcriptional repression is mediated by PRA isoform. On the contrary, PRB isoform activates the transcription of ERα, which causes the increased proliferation. Exactly PRB is supposed to be significant factor for progestin treatment. On the contrary, ERβ disposes antiproliferative...
Standardization study of the kinetic test of carring the load
Fedák, Josef ; Vágner, Michal (advisor) ; Doležel, Martin (referee)
SS UU MM MMAA RR YY TITLE Standardization study of the kinetic test of carring the load. AIM The aim of this study is to find out stability, the part of reliability, in a reference group of students by means of the method test-retest in the kinetic test of carrying the load. METHOD Surveyed group was composed of last-year students of two sports grammar schools chosen from all sports grammar schools in the Czech Republic. The second or more precisely the third group consisted of students of University of Defence in Brno. In total, 125 students were tested. The coefficient of correlation, the important statistic ratio, is determined by the method test-retest. The study represents an empiric quantitative observative research. The results will contribute to standardization of the test of carrying the load. RESULTS On the base of statistic formula and practical testing, the basic mathematical characteristics of the kinetic test of carrying the load were calculated. As the coefficient of stability rstab is 0,965 we draw a conclusion that the kinetic test of carrying the load is stable in the time. Comparing results of these three groups separetly, the fastest were students of Grammar school Postupická, than Sport grammar school Pardubice and the worst results had students of the University of Defence in Brno....
