Teaching about Invertebrates at the Second Grade of Elementary School: a Case Study
Píchová, Adriana ; Říhová, Dagmar (advisor) ; Brůnová, Linda (referee)
The main aim of the study was to find out how specific teachers teach invertebrate zoology at the 2nd grade of selected primary schools. The first part of the thesis is devoted to anchoring the invertebrate curriculum in the Framework Curriculum for Primary Education and selected methods and forms of teaching with motivational character (mainly outdoor education, experiential pedagogy, research-oriented teaching, excursions, and didactic games). A substantial part of the work is also devoted to cross-cutting themes, specifically environmental education about teaching invertebrates. The practical part of the thesis focuses on the analysis of teaching strategies and attitudes in teaching invertebrate zoology to specific teachers. Using a questionnaire survey and by comparing the results obtained, problematic points of teaching invertebrates were identified: the laa number of representatives, the (need for) reduction of the curriculum related to invertebrate anatomy, the interconnection of schools with environmental centers' use of live representatives in teaching. The second part of the research includes the results of semi-structured interviews with four science teachers who commented on the choice of teaching methods and forms of the environment in which the particular school is located (city ×...

The goal of the practical part is to create my own digital outdoor escape game using the Glitr application, which will be tested in practice. The game aims to revise and expand the knowledge gained in Biology lessons and to develop key competences. The practical part describes individual elements of the application, their possible use and the process of creating outdoor escape games. The theme of the game is insects with a connection to the history of the city of Klecany. It also includes a description of the individual locations and tasks used in the game. The outdoor escape game was tested on three classes of the sixth grade of local elementary school. An analysis of the collected data was carried out, namely the...
Utilization of School Garden for Practical Activities with Plants at Lower-secondary School
Grygová, Petra ; Skýbová, Jana (advisor) ; Říhová, Dagmar (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with use of a school garden for practical activities during excursion activities. The specific selected locality is the school garden of Business Academy and Secondary School of Agriculture and Ecology in Žatec. The main goal was preparation of practical activities that might be implemented in the school garden and their verification in classes of lower grades students of the lower-secondary school. The proposed research was carried out through didactic tests, in which the input knowledge was considered before the implementation of practical activities (pretest) and the knowledge acquired was afterwards verified in a posttest. The overall didactic concept of botanically oriented activities was elaborated in accordance with biology didactics. Subsequently, another survey took place in a form of attitude questionnaire, which aimed to determine popularity of practical activities in the school garden by the students themselves. The achieved research results demonstrate that practical activities with plants in the school garden are effective and popular form of teaching. KEYWORDS student, teaching forms and methods, school garden, practical activities, excursion activities, didactic test, attitude questionnaire
Euglenids (Excavata: Euglenophyta): Important Species
Bryxová, Tereza ; Říhová, Dagmar (advisor) ; Hanel, Lubomír (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on a detailed description of euglenids (Excavata: Euglenozoa), and selected important species from the class Euglenophyta. Euglenids are unicellular mostly free-living flagellates. Their most closely related protozoans are those from the group called Kinetoplastida. Members of Euglenophyta have specific and unique cell structure. A specific organelle, the stigma (also called eye spot), formed by a large number of pigment granules, helps them to perceive the direction from which light comes. An important part of the cell are also plastids, which cause different colouration of euglenids, and thus also colour of freshwater bodies in which they occur. Mobile stages of euglenids possess two flagella (sometimes only one flagellum is present - e.g. genus Euglena) which are anchored in small cavity called ampula. The surface of the flagellum is covered with fine hairs, mastigonemes. The thesis closely focuses on three euglenid species. Euglena viridis is characterized by its green colour and forms characteristic green clusters visible on the water surface of water bodies. Euglena gracilis is of great importance as a potential source in biotechnological use. It is one of the future sources of biofuels or healthy bioproducts. The last closely described model representative is...
The Importance of Dinoflagellates in Marine Ecosystems
Suldovská, Eva ; Říhová, Dagmar (advisor) ; Soldán, Zdeněk (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the unicellular organisms dinoflagellates (Dinoflagellata), which belong to the SAR supergroup, specifically in the Alveolata infrakingdom. They are widespread in marine and freshwater ecosystems around the world. Dinoflagellates are a highly heterogeneous group of organisms with an important role as primary producers in aquatic ecosystems. The thesis focuses especially on marine dinoflagellates and their importance for marine ecosystems. Some species of dinoflagellates have the ability to bioluminescence, which they use in their life strategy. Dinoflagellates have an ability to form vital symbiotic relationships, for example with corals. If the symbiosis between a coral and its dinoflagellate is disturbed, it can cause the global phenomenon coral bleaching. Dinoflagellates are associated with many other dangerous global phenomena. The red tides phenomenon is caused by the overgrowth of dinoflagellates and they can also cause the severe poisoning of organisms through excreted toxins. The bachelor thesis also focuses on methods that could help reduce the consequences of these global dinoflagellate-caused phenomena. The main aim of this bachelor thesis was to create a literature review dealing with the characteristics of dinoflagellates and their ecological...
Synanthropic Animals and Their Use in High School Teaching
Hušková, Kateřina ; Říhová, Dagmar (advisor) ; Škodová, Jana (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with synanthropic animals occurring in the home and school environment in the summer and autumn months and their use in teaching. It is divided in two main parts. The first half of the work describes in details already discovered synanthropic animal species during summer (June, July 2021) and autumn (October, November 2021) collecting in the buildings of Grammar school Teplice in the centre of Teplice, also in a family house and it's surroundings in the suburbs of Teplice. The overall results of the survey of both places showed a number of identical animals (eg Tegenaria domestica, Steatoda grossa or Musca domestica). The discovery of Scutigera coleoptrata and a large amount of Cheiracanthium mildei in the family house became a surprise. On the contrary, the occurrence of Columba livia on the school grounds and Pholcus phalangioides directly inside the school was expected. The second part of the diploma thesis describes and evaluates the results of tested students in the Teplice Grammar School. The testing served to find out students' knowledge of the topic of synanthropic animals. The results showed only partial knowledge of the topic, which needs to be further improved and developed by the students. Based on the results of testing, a six-hour seminar (divided into three...
