Title: Metaphor and Contemporary Art Author: Mgr. et MgA. Markéta Magidová Department: Department of Aesthetics Supervisor: Mgr. Ondřej Dadejík, Ph.D Abstract In my dissertation I present arguments for the validity of the aesthetic conception of art (a conception based on the notion of aesthetic experience) also in relation to the development of art movements in the last half century. I do so on the basis of an interpretation of the aesthetic dimension of art through art theory as an extended concept of metaphor. I argue that it is the living metaphor that functions in works of (not only) contemporary art as their aesthetic model. I elaborate this idea through the interconnection of three convergent and currently influential concepts: Paul Ricoeur's hermeneutic theory of living metaphor, Martin Seel's aesthetics of appearing, and Alva Noë's theory of art as a strange tool. I lay out the key conditions and characteristics of the process of the emergence of metaphorical meaning and then relate these to the characteristics of artistic appearance. In the perspective of art as living metaphor, the myths and misunderstandings between aesthetics and artistic practice caused by the transformation of artistic production, especially with the advent of the neo-avant-gardes, persisting to the present day, can be...

Němec, Jan ; Raudenský, Martin (advisor) ; Magidová, Markéta (referee)
The aim of this study was to summarize the theoretical content of the Ty- pography/Writing lesson. The theoretical part focuses on world and the Czech typography in the 20th and 21st centuries. It summarizes its most important personalities and adds new ones that are not yet included in any publications about the evolution of typefaces. The development includes key personalities and technological ad- vances. The didactic and practical part is based on the theoretical part. The didactic part is devoted to the search for connections in the field of typography in the curriculum framework. Afterwards, individual cur- ricula of secondary art schools with the educational field of graphic de- sign were examined and compared. The focus was on the time allocation to this subject. From the information gathered, a thematic block was suggested, treating the topic of contemporary typography consisting of three parts - explanation of theory, discussion and practical application. In the practical part, a digital survey was designed to collect informa- tion about the knowledge of the typography lesson. The digital form was prepared...

Video art and public space
Shcherbak, Viktoriia ; Pfeiffer, Jan (advisor) ; Magidová, Markéta (referee)
The work deals with video art and issues related to the presentation of video art in gallery and non-gallery spaces. The theoretical part defines the basic concepts such as new media, analog and digital video and video art, and then examines the polymorphism of video as a medium influenced and modified by other media. The final section is devoted to spatial forms of video art, such as video performance and video installation, and explores the special aspects of video in three-dimensional space. In the practical part, I carry out a survey (N = 65) of viewers' attitudes to space and video art. Respondents preferred experiencing video art in a dark, "cinema-like" room over other given options (in order of popularity: spatial video installation in a gallery, YouTube and video projection in a public square). The most important characteristics of video art spaces for respondents were: good acoustics, high video resolution projection and affordability of access. In the final section of the practical part, I describe and realize a series of video installations and performances, working with experimental ambient music, video installations and non-gallery spaces. The didactic part of the work summarizes the advantages of using video art in school, specifically in art lessons, and presents a design for a...
