Analysis of auditory perception of preschool aged children

Diploma thesis has special education theme. This thesis deals with the auditory perception in preschool children. The goal of the work is to evaluate the level of auditory perception of children in an ordinary preschool class. We focus on listening, auditory differentiation, short-term auditory memory, auditory analysis and synthesis, and perception and reproduction of rhythm. In order to answer the research questions, we created a test which is designed in accordance to the auditory perception development tables. The results show that on average the children score 82.8 percent in the test. The most difficult part of the test is listening with the average score of 61.0 percent. On the other hand, the most successful part is the perception and reproduction of rhythm with average score of 89.2 percent. Speech therapy for people with acquired brain injury

This thesis deals with speech therapy for people with acquired brain injury. The theoretical part consists of three chapters that acquaint readers with the theoretical framework necessary to understand the range of problems examined. It approximates the issue of origin and effects of this disease and refers to attitude in therapy that can be realized to people with this impairment. The research part of the work puts a goal to analyze the possibilities of speech therapy of selected persons with aphasia. The resulting data agree on the fact that for effective speech therapy is necessary on the one hand an individual approach but also motivation of patient is very important. The thesis also includes creating a custom set of exercises which has confirmed the effectivness of the development of cognitive functions in persons with aphasia. The empirical part is based on the qualitative research which was realized by techniques of participant observing, interviewing, questionnaire survey, analysing progress and outcomes of activities, documentation and literature.
Speech understanding in preschool children

The purpose of this master thesis is to investigate how preschool children understand speech, particularly its development, therapies and diagnostics. It was created a test called Rozumění řeči (V. K.) (Understanding of Speech) because of lack of diagnostic material for examination of understanding of speech, auditory memory and attention. The test was produced in three versions for children from 4 to 7 years. Theoretical part deals with the characteristics of preschool age and the development of communication skills, especially the level of lexical-semantic language and the possibility of developing an understanding of speech and auditory perception. At the end of the theoretical part I describe the aspects (diagnosis)that had an impact on understanding of speech. The empirical part shows the practical use of the test Understanding of Speech (V.K.) in three versions. In total it was 302 children who completed the test that helped me to compare aspects which has got an influence on difficulties in understanding of speech. It has been proven that most children had at least a weak difficulty in understanding, memory and auditors attention. Pragmatic language level for pupils with autistic spectrum disorder

The pragmatic language level in junior school pupils is the subject of the Master's thesis. The main object is to analyze the expression of the selected pupils with autism disorder, focusing on the pragmatic language level and then suggest other consecution for the practical use. The ultimate target is to analyze verbal, nonverbal and paralinguistic aspects of their speech. The theoretical part is focused on the process of communication, each language levels, and impaired communication ability. There is also theoretical knowledge about the autistic spectrum disorders, especially the terminology, etiology, symptomatology and the particular types of the disorders. The last part is based on the specification of the speech of pupils with the autistic spectrum disorder and the possibility of other development in this area, for example how to use the alternative and augmentative communication. The empiric part includes the qualitative research that analyses pragmatic language level of the selected pupils within the autistic spectrum. The analysis of the research, the observation of the participant, and the semi-structured dialog with the mother and the child are used to elaborate the research. Development of child communication skills with developmental dysphasia, utilization of alternative and augmentative communication

This thesis examines the development of communication skills of children with developmental dysphasia, with the use of augmentative and alternative communication. The work is made up of theoretical and practical part. The research focuses on the influence of elements augmentative communication intervention in children with developmental dysphasia in preschool facilities. The research part is formed by empirical research based on a case study of a boy with developmental dysphasia, case reports describing the progress of special education intervention in preschool institutions, research part is completed by the conclusions of the investigation and recommendations for practice. The aim is to show the positive influence the course of education of children with developmental dysphasia support structured learning and noticeable advances in communication development of children with the support of the graphic expression.
Music as a Significant Means for Speech Cultivation in Pre-School Children

This dissertation of an interdisciplinary character involves music education, music psychology, linguistics and special education. In the theoretical part of the thesis the author explains the term timbre from the musicological and linguistic perspective; characterizes timbre hearing as a musical hearing ability; introduces and compares timbre and phonemic hearing tests; describes the development of musicality and speech of pre-school children from an ontogenetic perspective, and emphasizes hearing atten- tion as a prerequisite for their advancement. The author also characterizes disruption of these abilities and describes reeducation therapies that involve elements of music education and mu- sic therapy. A field study described in the practical part of the thesis has a form of fundamental research and experiment. Research participants were 180 pre-school children. A field study is addressing the relationship between speech and musical manifestations of pre-school children with atypi- cal speech development. The aim of the experiment was to search for the most effective com- bination of music and language education with positive influence on both musicality and speech. Support for the development of a child with specific language impairment

The thesis focuses on the theme of the specific language impairment (developmental dysphasia). This thesis consists of the theoretical and the empirical part. The theoretical part is made up of of three main chapters. The first chapter deals with terms: communication, specific language impairment and speech development. The second chapter presents the terminological definition of the specific language impairment (developmental dysphasia), its etiology, symptomatology, diagnosis and therapy. The third chapter discusses issues of the preschool age. The empirical part is covered in the fourth chapter. It contains a case study, which is focusing on a young boy with specific language impairment and in detail it describes family situation, the boy's personal case history and also his psychomotor and speech development. Further, the thesis focuses on support provided to his development and evaluates progress after year of intensive care. A part of this paper are worksheets focusing on the development of the child with this kind of communication disability. Participation of the speech therapist on comprehensive care of people with the syndrome of dementia

The dissertation deals with issues of the dementia syndrome and the speech therapy as a part of its therapy. It describes basic types of dementia, risk factors affecting its formation, diagnostics including the most famous diagnostic tests, the general treatment of dementia, and institutions, where the care for people with dementia could be realized. Subsequently it namely focuses on the speech intervention for this group of people. As a part of this dissertation a workbook with the plan for the treatment of impaired communication abilities in dementia was created. Tests were carried out with four individuals with dementia caused by Alzheimer's disease. The results, even evaluated just subjectively, show that this plan might be appropriate as a cornerstone of speech intervention for people with dementia, which in our country is not very broadly spread in our country.
