Performance evaluation of funds in the Czech Republic

The thesis compares the performance of Czech equity mutual funds, focusing on less common indicators and performance assessment methods. This means mainly a modern ratios that takes into account both of yield and risk of the investment. The introductory theoretical part deals with the basic characteristics, legislation, typology and histoty of the funds in the Czech Republic since the early years of its existence to the present. Selected indicators for assessing performance of funds (Sharpe, Treynor, Calmar Ratios, Jensen alpha, Information Ratio and Maximum Drawdown) and also comparison funds with benchmark is applied in the analytical part. The thesis highlights the problems with the interpretation of ratios in the case of falling markets, and also proposes solutions to these problems.
Analysis of company´s capital structure and possibilities of its optimalization

The main aim of this thesis is to describe the optimalization and quantification of a capital structure in a company, both theoretically and practically. The first part comprises general understanding of a quite broad theoretical base. Firstly, the capital structure of a company and its individual parts are defined. Further, there is the analysis of the method of calculation of individual types of costs of capital. Major attention is paid to the description and evaluation of the various theories of the optimalization of capital structure. In the end of the theoretical part, the most important determinants of the capital structure are mentioned. The practical part of the thesis emphasis on the detailed analysis of an optimal capital structure of a real firm - Škoda Auto a.s. whereas the major attention is paid to balancing of the proportion of the company's own equity and foreign capital. The final part of the thesis includes calculation of the company's actual costs of capital and there are recommendations of how it could optimize its capital structure.
Real estate project finance

The theoretical part of this thesis explains the process of real estate project financing, describes its main features, characterizes participants of the process and main forms of project loans. It also depicts the feasibility study as a key source of project bank loan application, describe collection of loan documents, guarantees and hedging agreements and provide an overview of the methods used to evaluate the effectiveness of the project. The analytical part describes a particular project of development of a residential real estate and its project finance funding. Furthermore, the final section analyses the effectiveness of given project and the parameters of provided project bank loan.
Evaluation of corporate credit ability using financial analysis with emphasis on cash flow.

Economic Value Added and its uses in practices

A concept of EVA is critical in evaluating the performance of any business. Economic Value Added refers to the incremental value created by an activity or a business venture. It measures the economic rather than accounting profit created by a business after the cost of all resources including debt and equity had been implied. Improving EVA can be achieved by generating more revenue without using additional capital. The capital invested in the business might be reduced by selling non-operating assets and redeploying the capital into projects and activities with higher operating performance than current projects have. ...
Inlflation and risks in evaluation of PPP projects

Thesis focuses on issues of inflation and risks in evaluation of PPP projects. It sets the basic assumptions and standards for risk identification and administration in PPP projects and furthermore discusses their impact on Value for money and Availability payment. The thesis sets the basic rules for incorporating the inflation and risks into the PPP alternative and sets the rules for economic evaluation of PPP against PSC alterantive (Public Sector Comparator). For the illustration a hypothetical project of construction of primary and secondary schools has been worked out. For the evaluation of economic impact and selection of PPP vs. PSC alternative a standard financial model has been prepared. It focuses on analyzing the Value for moeny and seting up the Availability payment.
The evaluation of investment project effectiveness

This diploma thesis deals with issues surrounding the evaluation of investment project effectiveness. Apart from general characteristics and identification of key terminology in the area of investment decision making and capital planning, which are outlined in the theoretical part of this thesis, the section also provides an overview of methods used to evaluate the effectiveness of the investment decision making process. Particular attention is paid to the issue of criteria selection based on cash flows generated by the investment project. Theoretical findings regarding the evaluation of investment effectiveness are then used in the analytical part of this this by evaluating the effectiveness of a real-life investment project.
Financial analysis of stock company VR Group

Táto práca sa zaoberá metódami finančnej analýzy a posúdením finančného zdravia a výkonnosti podniku. Analyzovanou spoločnosťou je spoločnosť VR Group, a.s. a jej vývoj v období 2001 až 2006. V rámci práce je spracovaná horizontálna a vertikálna analýza účtovných výkazov, analýza pomerových ukazovateľov, komplexné zhodnotenie finančného zdravia prostredníctvom Altmanovej rovnice. V neposlednom rade je výkonnosť spoločnosti posúdená na základe hodnotového ukazovateľa EVA. Analýza je uskutočnená z pohľadu externého užívateľa.
Comparison of performance of selected collective investment funds

The thesis is engaged in a very up-to-date subject in the field of a capital market. Concretely the thesis is concerned in a collective investment. After the introductory theoretical part and the description of legal regulations follows the fundamental part, which is the analyse of performance of selected collective investment funds during a period from the beginning of year 1999 till the end of year 2006. The aim of the work is to compare performance of a foreign and domestic funds, whereas this comparison proceeds between selected equity funds, bond funds and money market funds. The result of the analyse is very interesting. In the event of the equity funds performance of the foreign fund is distinctively higher than in the domestic fund. However in the event of the bond funds the czech fund became the winner of comparison. Performance of money market funds was approximately same but in the both cases lower than risk free interest rate used in the analyse.
PPP Possibilities in Transportation Projects in the Czech Republic

This Diploma Thesis deals with Public Private Partnerships (PPP) projects in transportation area in the conditions of the Czech Republic. Theoretical part of the Thesis describes basic rules of project finance, as an elementary part of each PPP project, as well as analyzes key economic, legal, tax and accounting aspects of the PPP projects within the Czech Republic. Practical part of the Thesis describes the development of PPP projects in the whole Europe. Current pilot PPP projects in the Czech Republic are also analyzed. Real PPP project, D3 highway, and its economic availability are being analyzed and evaluated in the final part of the Thesis.
