Construction après + Perfect Infinitive in French and its Respondents in Czech
Horníková, Alžběta ; Nádvorníková, Olga (advisor) ; Kučerová, Magdalena (referee)
Propositional condensations represent an effective manner of concise expression within a phrase. In the French language, a construction formed with infinitive and preposition can fulfil this function. This paper aims to analyse one of these constructions: the construction après + perfect infinitive; especially its functioning in French and its possible respondents in Czech. Given the possibility of propositional condensation, the construction is expected to appear more frequently in texts containing narrative sequences, particularly in fiction or journalism. According to the perfect form of the infinitive combined with the preposition après in the construction, the whole structure expresses a concept of anteriority; and thus, the possible Czech respondents of the construction should be provided by subordinate clauses of time. The research in the parallel corpus InterCorp shows that the construction après + perfect infinitive is very common in fiction and journalism, namely in news, whereas it has lesser representation in commentaries. Concerning the Czech respondents of the construction, subordinate clauses of time are the most common equivalents, however, there are more possibilities such as main clauses or structures composed with a preposition and a verbal substantive.
The phenomenon of enantiosemia in contemporary French
Syerikova, Marharyta ; Mudrochová, Radka (advisor) ; Kučerová, Magdalena (referee)
The phenomenon of enantiosemy in contemporary French The diploma thesis deals with enantiosemy in contemporary French. It is a linguistic phenomenon, which by its nature falls into the field of lexical semantics, but it receives much less, if any, attention. Despite the fact that the term « enantiosemy » was introduced in scientific circles more than a hundred years ago, its terminological definition has no fixed contours. The aim of the work is to define the term enantiosemy in a broader linguistic environment, to compare its grasp and to present the main lines of its characteristics. At the same time, we will notice the presence-absence of the analyzed phenomenon in the relevant study material of the French language. Also in this work will be shown different types of opposites of enantiosemic words. The selected enantiosemic words will be subjected to diachronic analysis. In addition, the phenomenon of interlingual enantiosemy will be investigated using the example of French and English. Key words : enantiosemy, opposites, homonymy, antonymy, semantics, polysemy, interlingual enantiosemy

There are two aims, on one hand, we will analyze English loanwords that entered general language dictionary in the past 5 years. The practical part is dedicated to classification of loanwords codified in the given metalinguistic corpus and deals with their perception by native speakers. Concession in the Europarl Corpus: a Formal and Contrastive Analysis
Drobník, Ondřej ; Nádvorníková, Olga (advisor) ; Kučerová, Magdalena (referee)
(English) The presented diploma thesis deals with the French concession connectors bien que, quoique, encore que, malgré que and certes-mais. The aim of the thesis was to describe their behaviour in French and to compare them with Czech. As the main classification criteria, we choose the position of the concédé and the asserté, and the finiteness of the concédé. By reason of technical arrangement of the corpus, the type of concession is described only marginally. The connectors were described on random samples from the parallel corpus Europarl. This corpus contains transcripts of the European Parliament's debates and was chosen due to the high content of argumentative structures. In the defined samples, bien que and certes-mais are very close in their function (most often is the government of finite concédés in anteposition). Another class consists of encore que and malgré que (commonly govern finite concédés in postposition). Quoique is aside, because it prefers on our samples non-finite concédés in postposition. And thus, the conjunction connectors, which are often referred to as synonymous, exhibit different behavior in terms of the factors described. More generally, the anteposition of concédés emphasizes the validity of the concessive implication, while its postposition stresses the concessive...

Niedermaierová, Tereza ; Mudrochová, Radka (advisor) ; Kučerová, Magdalena (referee)
Word forming process of clipping and its presentation and comprehension in French textbooks at B1 level This diploma thesis focuses on the word formation process of clipping and its presentation and seizing in French textbooks at the B1 level. The theoretical part of the work aims to describe the clipping in the context of other word forming processes and to provide basic information about this process based on the study of professional publications. This part of the work defines clipping and presents the basic typology (apocope and apheresis). Based on specific examples, the thesis describes the morphological and phonetic attributes of clipping, and also mentions specific forms of words associated with this process, such as lexical amalgams. In addition, the theoretical part mentions the words classes usually affected by clipping, the question of grammatical categories or the concept of clipping in the Czech language. The aim of the practical part is to analyse the occurence of the process of clipping in teaching at high schools, using three contemporary French textbooks at the B1 level according to CEFR. The presence or absence of the clipping process in the teaching is also analysed via questionnaire research in selected years of high school. The thesis is based on the assumption that the...

Kučerová, Magdalena ; Pohorský, Aleš (advisor) ; Pechar, Jiří (referee) ; Jamek, Václav (referee)
Mgr. Magdalena Kučerová Dissertation work: Myth of Narcissus in French literature at the turn of the 20th century ABSTRACT: This dissertation thesis based on knowledge of French myth criticism deals with the issue of myths in literature, which is a specific manifestation of human symbolic imagination. In its most general level the work studies the definition of a myth and its social function as well as the matter of opposite notions regarding to the mythos and logos, which have gradually more and more differentiated along with the development of European thinking. The myth of Narcissus has probably been one of the oldest myths in European culture. In its most renowned and most comprehensive form, the myth first appeared in the third book of Metamorphoses by Ovid, which has served as an inspiration for remakes by many later authors. The story of a young man who fell in love with his own reflection on the surface of the water contains a great variety of semantically strong structures (mainly the motifs of a mirror, narcissistic love, passively superior character of a hero, or the final metamorphoses into a flower), which are analysed in this study. The author of this study outlines the interpretational evolution of the myth of Narcissus in French literary history...
