Contemporary legend and rumor in the Czech Republic. Origin, genesis and social and cultural function of domestic urban folklore in international context
Janeček, Petr ; Šalanda, Bohuslav (advisor) ; Ulrychová, Marta (referee) ; Pospíšilová, Jana (referee)
(English) Ph.D. Thesis Contemporary Legend and Rumour in the Czech Republic. Origin, Genesis and Social and Cultural Function of Domestic Urban Folklore in International Context Petr Janeček Presented study analyzes character, origin, genesis and social and cultural functions of specific type of prosaic oral narratives transmitted in contemporary oral and non-oral tradition on territory of the Czech Republic. Main attention is given to realistic narratives with primary informative and entertaining function, which are usually presented by their tellers as at least potentially real story or information about actual, genuine happenings of both local and social importance, but whose variants, versions and editions simultaneously circulate over wider geographical and temporary horizon. Because of that, these narratives are labelled by international folkloristics as folklore genres of "contemporary legend" and "rumour". After overview and critical analysis of history of international studies of these two genre concepts, their terminology and genre (both formal and thematic) characteristics in international and Czech folkloristics are presented, as well as relationship of these genres to similar contemporary folklore forms, especially gossip, conspiracy theories, anecdotes and jokes, demonological...
Study of the structure and of interaction with gas molecules of Rh-Sn and Rh-SnO2
Janeček, Petr ; Nehasil, Václav (advisor) ; Jirka, Ivan (referee) ; Bartoš, Igor (referee)
In this work we present the results of the analysis of the surface structures and absorption properties with respect to the CO and O2 molecules of the Sn/Rh and Rh/SnO2 model systems. In the part dedicated to the Sn structures on Rh surfaces with two different orientations - Rh(110) and Rh(111) - we have investigated the development of the core electron levels and valence band during the development of surface reconstructions and absorption of CO molecules. The surface reconstructions of the Sn/Rh(110) systems were studied for the first time. Difference in behaviour w.r.t. Sn/Rh(111) was observed and explanation offered. Finally, on in-situ prepared epitaxial SnO2 layers, the surface reconstruction (4×1) was observed. The CO adsorp- tion properties of Rh on polycrystalline and epitaxial SnO2 layers were also studied and difference in behaviour explained.
Heathen Germanic Rituals
Development of access of women as news sources into the news of the Czech Television
Janeček, Petr ; Trampota, Tomáš (advisor) ; Vochocová, Lenka (referee)
The thesis "Development of acess of women as news sources into the news of the Czech Television" deals with access of women into the news programme Udalosti in 1993, 2001 and 2009 in the context of sociology of sources. In the literature, we can find evidence that men dominate television news because they represent one fifth of all news sources and moreover women are more often presented in connection with less important issues and in passive roles. TV news therefore supports stereotypical reception of women in society. It is valid not only for the Czech mass media but also for the whole world. The aim of the thesis was to capture development of access of women during the years. We assumed that frequency of female sources would be higher in 2009 than 1993 and 2001 because we can also see more women in politics and business. We also observed average length of the talks to understand how much space both women and men get in news coverage. The thesis tried to find out contexts in which women and men appeared (e.g. politics, economy, business, entertainment, family etc.) and roles that they held. Furthermore, we focused on position within news coverage and tried to capture whether female sources get a prominent position which indicates capacity and power.
Skinhead subculture
Klimšová, Jana ; Letavajová, Silvia (advisor) ; Podoláková, Katarína (referee) ; Janeček, Petr (referee)
Skinhead subculture exists for already fifty years. Its history relates closely to United Kingdom, where it has been founded and has divided into numerous fractions, which on the first glimpse might appear confusing. I have undertaken my research in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, strictly speaking in capitals and their outskirts of both countries. I have focused on history of this subculture and its nowadays forms in my diploma. I have concentrated to visual and musical expressions of skinhead subculture, its symbolism, value system and world-view; as well as major population view on the subculture. Information used was gathered from available literature, by work with respondents both members of the subculture and major population.
