Nováková, Alexandra ; Sekera, Martin (referee) ; Köpplová, Barbara (advisor)
The bachelor thesis focuses at the beginning and evolution of the Dějiny a současnost journal (The History and the Present) from the late 50s of the 20th century till the prohibition of publishing the journal in 1969. The media, historical, political, and legal context is accentuated. The work also describes features, contents, and the changes of media at the end of the 60s generally. It shows the change of the original intention of the publisher in 1963, when the journal opposed the regime. In 1965, after an encroachment of the Communist Party, the ambitions of the journal temporarily stopped, however, during the Prague's Spring, the journal became progressive again and promoted the ideas of reformed communism.
Media habits of children aged 5-6 years
Luštinec, Ondřej ; Sekera, Martin (referee) ; Wolák, Radim (advisor)
The diploma thesis "The Media Habits of Children Aged 5-6 Years" examines the status of the media in the lives of preschool children and focuses solely on five and six-year-old children. It summarizes some existing research concerning the relationship between children and the media and also discusses the findings of its investigation. The author conducted the research in three nursery schools trying to find the answer to two fundamental questions: What place does the media have in the lives of children aged 5-6 years? Are traditional media (television, radio, magazines, as well as books), or new media (computer, internet, cell phone, etc.) more popular for these children? The author's research draws from three sources: Firstly, structured interviews with children in nurseries and experiments carried out in the nursery schools. Secondly, a questionnaire survey of parents of these children. Finally, a questionnaire for nursery school teachers who are responsible for these children. The work provides quantitative conclusions where the author presents for example the popularity ranking of different types of media among children and describes the amount of time that children spend watching television, looking at the computer or listening to recorded music. It also makes qualitative conclusions where the author...

Journalist and his work environment : (case study of Czech publishing house Mafra)
Macků, Lucie ; Sekera, Martin (referee) ; Jirák, Jan (advisor)
Diploma thesis "Journalist and His Work Environment (Case Study of Czech Publishing House Mafra)" deals with the topic how journalists are influenced by their work environment and how is cooperation and rivalry among journalists at publishing house Mafra. I also deal with the topic of media convergence because Mafra was the first publishing house in the Czech Republic which started trend of integrated newsrooms. Research is based on interviews with 19 journalists from all kinds of media which Mafra owns (dailies MF DNES, Lidové noviny, Metro; website iDNES.cz; radio Expresradio and Classic FM; television Óčko). Journalist almost do not realize their work environment. They have very weak relation to their employer; they often think only about their pages and own colleagues. Other employees of Mafra are more or less indifferent to them. Journalists consider change of layout or length of their pages as the most important changes which happened in the newsroom. Journalists almost do not cooperate with each other. They think about cooperation only on promotion basis, not on the journalist one. Only exception is daily cooperation between print MF DNES and website iDNES.cz. Rivalry in Mafra is between print dailies MF DNES and Lidové noviny; in newsrooms between magazine's and news' pages and authors and editors...

The goal of the submited thesis: "Transformation of the Czech samizdat periodicals after 1989" is to analyze the changes, that the originally samizdat periodicals went through in the conditions of the free-market society, which was formed after 1989 in Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic. The emotional intentions in the interwar political cartoons (1918-1939)
Svobodová, Eva ; Köpplová, Barbara (referee) ; Sekera, Martin (advisor)
Diploma thesis "The Emotional Intentions in the Interwar Political Cartoons (1918-1939)" deals with the view of selected events and personalities, by which is expected a highly emotional (she had: emotionally heady - laden) public evaluation. This view of political themes is followed in the period October 1918 - December 1919 and May 1938 - March 1939, in the objectively politically dynamic periods and within the field of collective emotions hypertrophic periods. The basic thesis states: Caricatures exude mainly negative emotions (though at the same time - secondarily - may involve in the perception positive emotions too, the overall tone of the caricatures and their persuasive intention is primarily an evaluative negation of the shown). Aim of my thesis is to try - by using semiotic analysis - to identify what emotions could be excited by recipients and to provide the emotional agenda. 1 also mention stereotypes in the representation of individual phenomena, but their representation is not the core part of the work. The working method is an innovation of traditional approaches to the interpretation of the cartoons, their forms and contents. Its aim is to verify productivity of this chosen method for any other use. The primary sources are copies of satirical magazines and newspapers, and secondary...
The process of the gradual emancipation of the Czech press in the years 1966 - 1968 based upon the Rovnost (The Equality) daily, published in Brno
Hruban, Martin ; Cebe, Jan (advisor) ; Sekera, Martin (referee)
The thesis "The Process of the Gradual Emancipation of the Czech Press in the years 1966 - 1968 based upon the Rovnost (The Equality) daily, published in Brno" deals with the analysis of the Rovnost daily of the South Moravian Regional Committee of the Czechoslovak Communist Party in the years 1966 - 1968. Time boundaries of the thesis issue are limited with January 1966 - January 1968. In this period preceding the short liberation of media and journalist's work from censorship and command and control in the year 1968, it is possible to trace the germs of a process culminating in the several months of the so called Prague Spring. The reestablished genre variety and the stress on the informative role of the press, the ideological weakening, the searching for one's own graphic layout, together with the permanently rising importance of economic aspects of the newspaper processing, all these factors went along with the gradual liberation of media from the schematism and their position as a mere obedient instrument and performer of the will of the ruling communist party. The probe into the contents and operation of the regional daily of the Czechoslovak Communist Party Rovnost can also comprise an interesting complement to the historical research devoted to processes preceding the Czechoslovak events in 1968 and...

Chrudimské noviny - regional weekly and political changes 1938-1942
Baťa, Blahoslav ; Sekera, Martin (advisor) ; Cebe, Jan (referee)
The central theme of this project was the influence of political change on the contents of the regional weekly Chrudimske noviny published from the beginning of 1938 to October of 1942. Above all I have observated its manifestation in the main political article using content and language analysis as a method of my work. Firstly I outlined political, economical and social situation of the period. I also reffered to the censorship and media legislation influential to the work of journalists and to the establishment, organization and background of the weekly as well as persons who had influenced its contents. The main analysis was divided into the three main parts in accordance with three historical periods determined by distinctive political regimes (January 1938- September 1938, October 1938 - 15th March 1939, March - October 1942). As body of texts for the analysis itself served the most significant publisher policy expressing text in the examined periodical - the editorial. I started the analysis by defining several most significant areas covered by the weekly in each above mentioned period (eg. problem of nationhood, the czech-german relations, defense policy, local election...) and by narrowing down the editorials dealing with one of these topics.
