Imagining Productive Labor Without Wage Labor: Discursive Analysis of Selected Non-Fiction Literature

The topic of the diploma thesis is the question of creating a discourse about unskilled jobs and the people who perform them. It is examined through everyday manifestations of work ethics, which is looked for in selected non-fiction literature. The diploma thesis constructs a definition of work as a concept which needs to be approached from an economic and cultural research lens at the same time. This is then linked to the development of work in the 20th century and subsequently to post-work theory. The content of the thesis is an analysis of the antinomies of work ethics in six non-fiction books devoted to low-income and unskilled jobs. Subsequently, there is an analysis of working conditions, work narratives and social discourses on work: The diploma thesis defines specific manifestations of the theories in defined antinomies in workplaces which are addressed in the analyzed books. The definition of work as a space of politics of redistribution and politics of misrecognition is supported by conclusions based on the necessity of grasping the everydayness of work ethics as a concept that maintains the work system and its inequalities and also entails revolutionary emancipatory potential. "Vítání občánků": Social Analysis of a Czech Baby-Welcoming Ceremony

Vítání občánků which translates to "Welcoming of Little Citizens" is a rite of passage celebrated by Czech parents with newborns at their local town or city council. It was invented during the Communist era with the aim of replacing baptism. A reason for its continued popularity even after the shift to democracy is its function as a rite of passage at a difficult life situation but also its successful re-invention. Transition to parenthood is difficult in contemporary society due to high societal expectations of parents as well as contradictory ideals. Rite of passage helps ease the transition for the parents, but it also involves the broader community and the newborn. In addition, it puts one's life journey into a bigger perspective and provides a platform for a family gathering and for using symbolic language. Both its invention and re-invention were done by inducing a sense of continuity via elements invoking past traditions and universal values. Thanks to that, the desired new meanings and values have been accepted by the public. A crucial role in the (re)inventing process has been played by a so-called institutional entrepreneur, an actor who has the skills, resources and motivation to achieve it. The Identity Construction and Self-Perception of Queer Sinti and Roma

This thesis examines the identity construction and self-perception of queer Sinti and Roma in Central Europe. Sinti and Roma are at the fringe of society and are subjected to discrimination and antiziganist stigmatisation. As a result, identity construction involves greater effort and leads to the creation of a collective identity that provides Sinti and Roma with a sense of belonging. Queer Sinti and Roma are exposed to intersectional discrimination on the axes of racism and homophobia and occupy a special position within identity formation. Incorporating data from three narrative interviews, testimonies and selected chapters from an autobiographical book, this study demonstrates that intersectional discrimination highly influences identity formation within queer Sinti and Roma. It was shown that identity construction was shaped by concepts like Masking Identity and the Perception of Othering that can be overcome by finding spaces of Belonging and social networks that display Allyship. The establishment of safe spaces for queer Sinti and Roma are crucial for the creation of spaces of Belonging and the manifestation of a mutual group identity. The role played by social media in the migration-related decision- making process in the case of international students of Charles University.

The last decades have seen a growing number of international students. States and institutions all around the world are trying to attract students from abroad. Nowadays, to reach the target group they are putting information online. It is foreseeable since the Internet has deeply penetrated our daily life. However, there is still a lack of understanding of how aspiring international students use online sources, and how these sources influence their decision to study abroad. This thesis aims to provide up-to-date information on the influence of social media on the decision-making process of aspiring international students. This study was conducted with qualitative interviews with international students of Charles University. After the data analysis, it became apparent that even though social media does not have a major impact on one's choice to study abroad, it is an important medium that helps one to maintain and create personal networks and disseminate people's influence. Therefore, one can conclude that social network sites facilitate student migration. Integration of Children and Young Adults with Mental Disabilities into Society from the Perspective of Social Workers

The thesis focuses on the integration of children and young adults with mental disabilities into society from the perspective of social workers. Social workers can play an important role in the process of integrating people with mental disabilities into society. The thesis explores their views on the current state of inclusion and social services and the problems they perceive within the social service system. The first part of the thesis explains the terms frequently used in the text and describes laws that refer to people with mental disabilities. The theoretical concepts on which the thesis is based are also explained, mainly the concepts of front-line workers and empowerment. The objectives, research questions and methodology of the thesis are then set. The research section of the thesis presents the results of the analysis and the main findings of the research. The research section includes excerpts from interviews, highlighting the problems social workers perceive within the social service system and the integration process. The social workers' approach to their clients with mental disabilities and the actors who, according to social workers, play a significant role in the integration process are also described. Finally, the results of the analysis are linked to the theoretical framework.
Gender stereotypes behind the wheel from the perspective of driving school students

This bachelor's thesis deals with gender stereotypes behind the wheel from the perspective of driving school students. It examines whether stereotypes occur in driving school, looks at stereotypes that respondents may have encountered prior to driving school, and then aims to determine whether respondents are influenced by driving school for future driving. The topic is actual because nowadays driving is still considered a 'male' activity and women may be discouraged from becoming drivers due to social pressure and expectations about their gender role. It is also important because we mainly get from place to place by car, so driving school should be a welcoming environment for all. The thesis is divided into theoretical, methodological, and practical parts. In the first part, the theoretical background such as Gender Stereotypes, Gender Glass Theory, Driving School, and others are described, which is then used as a basis for the practical part. In the latter, qualitative research is conducted, specifically through semi-structured interviews. From the data provided by these interviews, eight themes are then selected through segmentation, divided into three chapters according to the research questions. Rituals in Waldorf primary school

This bachelor's thesis explores the shame of rituals in a Waldorf primary school. The first part is devoted to the fundamental theoretical background for this work, namely Émile Durkheim's theory of ritual and the rites of passage of Arnold Van Gennep and Victor Turner. It then introduces concepts that are central to the study of ritual in the Waldorf primary school, which are community and communitas, secularization, alternative spirituality, New Age, and the concept of believing without belonging. The second part is devoted to a description of the methodology. It outlines the research questions, research methods, sources of the gift and reflects on the role of the researcher. The last analytical part of the paper describes and discusses the findings obtained through the analysis of the research semi-structured interviews and participant observation. It was found that rituals in a Waldorf primary school are an indispensable part of the whole Waldorf education. They create an environment in which the actors meet each other and share common values, ideas and strengthen collective feelings and interpersonal relationships through joint ritual activities.
