The formation of a working-class district in Malvazinky in the first half of the 20th century

Klíčová slova (anglicky): Worker colony, Malvazinky, Smíchov, construction, cooperatives Abstract (in English): The bachelor thesis deals with the formation and shaping of the Prague working-class quarter in Malvazinky in the first half of the 20th century. Its main aim is to present the construction of family houses that were created as a result of the housing shortage in Prague. The main builders were building and housing cooperatives and also the Prague municipality. It was mainly an attempt to build cheap but quality housing for a wider segment of the population. The thesis is devoted to a description of the site, an introduction to the building and housing co- operatives and their building activities, and a characterisation of the Prague workforce, which was increasing in number. It uses maps and plans showing the site and plans of the proposed houses to give a complete picture. There was an emergency colony on the site earmarked for development, to which the thesis devotes a chapter. A number of colonists agreed to form their own cooperative, which is also discussed in the thesis. The result of the thesis is a comprehensive presentation of the area of Prague Malvazinky and a comprehensive view of its development in the 1920s.

Estate directors/property managers of the Schwarzenberg primogeniture and the education of the peasantry in the 1840s-70s

The thesis aims to construct a model director of the Schwarzenberg primogeniture estate in the 19th century. This construction will serve as a means to learn about and evaluate three important Schwarzenberg directors, i.e., Franz Horski (1801-1877), Franz Kutschera (1819-1899), Josef Šusta (1835-1914), and the administrator Leopold Maria Zeithammer (1834-1905). The researcher also seeks to understand the extent to which the central economic activities of these officials were linked to educational activities on behalf of the peasants. A significant part of the thesis is devoted to the analysis and interpretation of the official Franz Kutschera's Über die Ziele eines Gutsherrn (1884). This is Kutscher's concentrated experience in managing a large estate and his recommendations on how the owner should act. The addressee of the file was Hereditary Prince Jan Nepomuk II of Schwarzenberg (1860-1938), grandson of Jan Adolf II. Schwarzenberg. The work is based on the study of secondary literature and analysis of archival material (stored in the SOA in Třeboň, Český Krumlov).

Tailors' Association in Prague: organization of tailoring tradesmen in Prague from the time of the monarchy to the end of the first Czechoslovak Republic

(in English): The subject of the thesis is the Tailors' Association in Prague, which was founded in 1911 by the merger of the three main Prague associations. The thesis analyses the organisational structure and activities of the trade association from its foundation to the end of the First Czechoslovak Republic. It focuses on its economic, status, social and cultural functions (educational and enlightenment activities). The thesis examines how the association did or did not fulfil the roles given by the legal framework, how it influenced the business environment of Prague and whether its influence extended to other regions, what role it played for its members and how this changed over time. The basis of the thesis is the elaboration of the surviving archival material using professional periodicals. The thesis thus contributes both to the knowledge of trade associations as a specific type of organisation of trade entrepreneurs in the first half of the 20th century and to the development of the tailoring craft in the Czech lands.

Tourism in economic negotiations between Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia during the inter-war period

During the interwar period, tourism has been becoming an increasingly common leisure activity for wider social strata. Tourism between Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia throughout the interwar period continued the tradition of mutual contacts from before the First World War. The subject of the thesis is to investigate the development of tourism between Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia in the interwar period. The diploma thesis first outlines the legal framework of tourism from the Czechoslovak perspective, then the contractual relations governing travel and economic relations between Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia. It analyzes to which extent the Czechoslovak state influenced the field of tourism, whether it stimulated or hindered its development. The thesis maps the social context of travel to Yugoslavia, mutual Slavic cooperation and the role of individual interest groups in developing contacts and business in the field of tourism in the territory of both countries. Another subject is an analysis of the promotion of interest groups viewed through various promotional tools, especially travel guides, association magazines and films.

Wartime economic headquarters in Cisleithania (1914-1918)

The dissertation deals with the topic of Wartime Economic Headquarters in the time span of the First World War in Cisleithania; these organisations are understood primarily as institutions authorized with the administration of goods and foodstuffs in short supply. Firstly, the thesis evaluates and defines the position of the Wartime Economic Headquarters in the system of the Cisleitanian war economy, offers their classification based on their roles and forms and it offers their overview. In the three individual studies the thesis deals in detail with the chosen Wartime Economic Headquarters - The Wartime Grain Agency, The Central Sugar Agency, and the organizations active in the field of the cotton industry - The Central Cotton Agency, and The Wartime Union of Cotton Industry. Based on a thorough analysis of wartime legislation, the thesis specifies the tasks and role of each closely analyzed organization in the framework of governmental regulation. It follows the chosen organizational forms of the respective organizations, including the persons in charge and it evaluates the profitability of those organizations. Trade Bank and its Role in the Industrialization Process of the Bohemian Lands 1869 - 1914 (1918)

The dissertation thesis deals with the role of the largest nationally Czech bank, Živnostenská (Trade) bank in Prague, in the process of industrialization of the Czech lands in the years 1869- 1914. The issue is viewed through the bank's promotional activity, i.e. the bank's activities in establishing new companies or transforming existing ones into another legal form - most often a joint-stock company. Subsequently, the relationship of the bank to these firms is analysed. The thesis also notes Živnobanka's action in the cartelization of Cisleithanian industry and provides insights for the debate on the power relationship between banks and industry. It also attempts to answer the question to what extent economic nationalism influenced the business of Živnobanka. Regional aspects of transformational development of the German federal states

výsledky, představuje časté téma odborných diskusí, i když převážně v rámci ekonomické obce. Podobně je tomu v případě komparace použitých strategií a privatizačních metod. Pozoruhodné však je, že v české odborné literatuře je poněkud opomíjen příklad transformace východoněmecké ekonomiky, pravděpodobně pro její unikátní podmínky. V rámci transformačního procesu, který se vyznačoval obrovskými náklady, byla pak věnována jen minimální pozornost jeho regionálním (geografickým) aspektům. Monografie zabývající se transformačním procesem z tohoto pohledu se objevují až od poloviny 90. let minulého století (Pohl 2002, Blien, Wolf 2001, Moravcová 2000, Niebuhrová 1999, Eckart 1998, Bosch 1995). Průběh ekonomické transformace nových spolkových zemí Německa a s ní souvisejících dopadů na německé hospodářství je v SRN stále jedno z často diskutovaných témat. V současnosti - ve světle nepříznivé ekonomické situace nejen východní části země, ale i Německa jako celku -již jednoznačně převažuje negativní hodnocení přijaté šokové transformační strategie. Je také zřejmé, že u vědomí těch nejvýznamnějších sociálně ekonomických (i politických) konsekvencí nezdařilé transformace jsou otázky regionálního vývoje vnímány jako druhořadé. Přesto není nezajímavé se jimi, zejména ve srovnání s vývojem v jiných transitivních...

This thesi s aims to capture the fundamental factors of developement of czech breweries in period 1869 - 1918. It analyzes three big companies, which repesent specific ways of orginazation. It analyzes especially the mechanisms of their business and financial results, technological level, organization of sales and coopearation in cartels. Cartels are discused separatly and mentioned is their importace for the developemnt of the field in the period.

Birth and function of foreign trade monopoly for textile goods

This work treats of Centrotex Society in the interval from its creation in 1948 until realisation of Rozsypal's economic reform in 1958. Centrotex Society is an example of a company of a foreign trade in the era of central planned economy, which was being functional during a communist regime between 1948 and 1989. In my diploma theses I intended to explain commercial activities of Centrotex Society in this period, changes of its commercial strategy and reforms which it passed through. Centrotex Society was founded in 1948 after nationalization of foreign trade, it dealed with textile raw materials and products. In the sphere of textile raw materials it focused especially on import because in Czechoslovakia there were not (except for flax) suitable conditions for their production. On the other hand, in the sphere of textile products the primary function of Centrotex Society was their export which brought foreign currency to Czechoslovakia. The break of 1940s and 1950s could be called "an era of founding". This period is defined by searching the most suitable way of organising a foreign trade company, which meant often changes of plans and even organizational structure of the company. Nationalization of clothes's company NEHERA (1945-1948)

This thesis is a case study of the clothing company Nehera, clothing service in Prostějov in years 1945 - 1948. It analyzes the changes the company went through after the war. It especially covers the underlying mechanism of the nationalization process which it also explains. Attention is paid to the conversion from a private company to the national company. It also studies the principles which the newly formed national company operated on. Thereby it covers the results the nationalization brought.
