Kantor, Lukáš ; Karlas, Jan (advisor) ; Střítecký, Vít (referee) ; Krpec, Oldřich (referee)
of the dissertation The following five interdisciplinary essays contribute to International Relations, sociology and media studies, mainly on empirical, but also on theoretical level. Their overarching message is to reject paranoid, but also benign narrative of global elite clubs as exemplified on the case of the controversial transatlantic forum Bilderberg Group. On theoretical level, the dissertation highlights continuing relevance of sometimes overlooked neo-Marxism. It offers further support for the thesis that some kind of transnational capitalist class (TCC) has developed, which is disputed even by several neo- Marxists, let alone other scholars. Specifically, the findings on Bilderberg Group corroborate the existence of Euro-Atlantic TCC. Within this social network, the European fraction seems to be the most consolidated one. On empirical level, the dissertation is the first publication that thoroughly exploited data from the recently launched official Bilderberg Group's website. From another under- researched source, the dissertation compiled new datasets about all post-Cold War Bilderberg conferences. On this basis, the essays provide original quantitative and qualitative insights into the composition of Bilderberg attendees and topics of their discussions. The dissertation offers the...
Catholic Social Doctrine and its Position on the Left-right Scale
Kantor, Lukáš ; Müller, Ivan (advisor) ; Kučera, Rudolf (referee)
The first part of the submitted essay represents a kind of a historical- philosophical excurse. It deals with a sample of thinkers, political movements and parties, church or sectarian groupings and streams that can be labeled with the term "leftist Christians" (Campanella, Tillich, Anabaptists, the Theology of Liberation and so on). At the same time the opposite postures of "right-wing Christians" are described, especially those of the contemporary renowned catholic political philosopher Michael Novak. The second part of this bachelor thesis focuses on the catholic social doctrine itself, as it has been developing since the publication of the papal social encyclical Rerum novarum at the end of the 19th century. The content and main principles of the following encyclicals are analyzed. Separate, although short chapter is dedicated to the last social encyclical Centesimus annus from 1991. The aim of the thesis is to "localize" catholic social doctrine on the traditional political left-right scale; it means to highlight its similarities and differences with liberal, conservative and socialist ideology and their corresponding economic models. On this issue we came to the conclusion that the cardinal rules of catholic social doctrine (solidarity, preferential option for the poor, priority of work...

The thesis deals with the former Bush's plan of the so-called third pillar of the American missile defense system in Poland and Czech republic. We demonstrate on this topic the value of several key (neo)realist theoretical concepts. Specifically, the exact types and functioning of security dilemmas are analyzed in the framework of American-Russian, American-Iranian and American-Czech/Polish relations. The thesis also illustrates the importance of related modalities of deterrence and shows, which states and how balanced the US. In addition to that, attention is paid to the question whether the "shield" was motivated by defensive realist worries about security or rather by offensive realist struggle for power and gains at the expense of others.

Dolejší's "Analysis" as an Example of Conspiracy Theory
Kantor, Lukáš ; Bureš, Jan (advisor) ; Voráček, Emil (referee)
This magistr thesis examines the first two parts o f the significant conspiracy theory about Charter 77 and the velvet revolution: "Analysis o f 17th November and the changes in eastern Europe in 1989" written by Miroslav Dolejsi, a long-time political prisoner of communist regime. The submitted thesis tries to demonstrate which o f Dolejsi's assertions are truthful or at least probable, but also what is speculation or even disinformation. In this regard, the magistr thesis refutes Dolejsi's gravest charge, that the Charter 77 represented right from its inception an intentionally created political reserve, or even the so- called "guided opposition" led by people linked to Czechoslovak and Soviet secret police. Rather, we suggest thinking about Charter 77 as a "controlled opposition" consisting of a contra elite potentially capable of replacing the discredited communists. 3The magistr thesis also did not find evidence to prove Dolejsi's claim that the power handover in 1989 was arranged in advance, although both dissidents and elites o f the old regime calculated on forthcoming changes and contacts between these two camps did exist. Pragmatic communists had probably been preparing themselves for the new conditions and some even helped to trigger the revolutionary events. Later during the talks between Civic...
