International Digital Library of Manuscripts

The Manuscriptorium Digital Library is Europe’s largest digital library of manuscripts providing access to data from more than 120 institutions across Europe incl. ca. 55 most important Czech collections. In March 2015, it contained 43,372 fully digitized documents and more than 337,000 bibliographic records. The documents are not only of European origin (Western, Slavonic, Hebrew, Armenian ...), but there are also data representing Arabic, Persian, Ottoman, Indian and other manuscript traditions. The digital library was launched in 2003 by the National Library of the Czech Republic, in partnership with the Czech AiP Beroun Company. In comparison and in contrast with other aggregation services, it provides seamless access to full digital documents on the fly, reusing thus repositories of partner digital libraries. Users do not need to travel or to navigate from one physical place or digital library to another one to access needed documents. Manuscriptorium provides uniform interface to any data from any digital library that signed the partnership agreement. The internal metadata solution is based on the robust TEI P5 approach and suits both library and researchers’ requirements for description and structuring. It aggregates not only fully digitized documents, but also the partially digitized ones and bibliographic records. It contains manuscripts as well as old printed books, historical maps, and historical posters. The documents are mostly represented by digital images and in certain extent also by full texts, TEI-structured and unstructured. Methodology for determining the provenance of natural stone - sandstone – using exact laboratory methods

Metodika se zabývá hlavními postupy a analytickými rozbory, které lze využít k petrografickému a geochemickému popisu pískovců, který poté slouží k určování jejich provenience. V metodice je diskutován rozsah použití jednotlivých metod pro popis pískovců a současné možnosti jejich petrografické klasifikace. Certifikovaná metodika je určena pro oblast památkové péče, která využívá výsledků materiálových rozborů objektů kulturního dědictví – sochařských výtvarných děl, architektonických prvků a staveb, zhotovených z pískovců. Výsledky, dosažené pomocí postupy, navrženými v této metodice by měly přispět: (1) ke zpřesnění znalostí o tomto typu sochařského a stavebního materiálu; (2) ke sjednocení postupů, používaných při klasifikaci pískovců; (3) k nalezení zdrojové lokality či alespoň oblasti, z níž byl přírodní kámen (pískovec) odebírán; (4) k hledání vhodného náhradního typu pískovce při nutnosti výměny; (5) k poznání vhodných postupů při restaurování pískovce. Oblast využití této metodiky je tedy při předrestaurátorských materiálových průzkumech památek, na nichž byl použit příslušný typ přírodního kamene, tedy pískovec. Metodika je určena širšímu okruhu specialistů, kteří se podílejí na předrestaurátorských materiálových průzkumech památek. Jedná se nejen o specialisty – geology, kteří provádějí samotný rozbor přírodního kamene z památek, ale též specialisty, kteří rozbor zadávají a kteří výsledky průzkumu potřebují pro volbu vhodné strategie restaurování – tedy restaurátory a technology. Těmto specializacím by metodika měla posloužit při formulování požadavků na typ rozboru a při interpretaci jeho výsledků. Metodika byla certifikována dne 18. 8. 2016, Osvědčení č. 143 (č.j. MK 53116/2016 OVV; sp. zn. MK-S 6346/2016 OVV).

Methodology of digitizing, 3D documentation and 3D visualization of the various types of monuments

The objective of the methodology was to cover the field of spatial digitization only partially, and for this reason it was narrowed to the leading method of 3D laser terrestrial scanning, broadly used for large objects such as castles, churches, villas, constructions, stone sculptural objects such as statues, coat of arms, cornice. It is aimed at the researchers and institutions in the field of the cultural heritage protection, the prominent of which is the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the National Heritage Institute, bodies of the national heritage care, universities and high schools with accredited subjects in documentation of monuments and museums and art galleries.

Methodology for processing plan documentation

The presented methodology solves a clearly defined task - processing plan documentation for a given volume number in a limited time frame and limited financial resources. Because it is 94% of plans on tracing paper, we can take the whole process as the processing of the registry and archives of his last contact with the printing device - ie the scanner. The methodology aims to describe the process from collection matrices to final storage in the archive. Considerations in determining the progress of the work and the decision-making process is very important for solving complexity. For example, typically stored on archival break them individually in a paper sleeve / pocket / with a description and identification number on the carton. In our case for the 6500 format, I need 6500 sheets of sufficient size eg. 70 g / m2. This amount is two pallets of paper with a height of about 80 cm. That means the material 1.6 m in height. When transferred to a pocket, it is already 3.2 m. When you insert the matrix and stored without tying palette brings tripled - that is almost 10 m in height material.
