Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski - a precursor of Comenius?

A comparison of the ideas of social reformer A.F. Modrzewski (around 1503-1572) with the work of Comenius. Modrzewski wrote "Comentariorum de Republica emendanda libri quinque". Comenius knew about him but we have no proof that he was acquainted with his work.

The older one is represented by Dean Pospíšil, faithful to the renascence ideals, the younger by the priests of the fifties. Holeček also demonstrates how the conflict of this double understanding of catholicism is mirrored in the psychic life of children heroes of the book.

Soares' Criticism of Arriaga's Conception of the Infinite

The famous Spanish theologian and philosopher Rodrigo de Arriaga, who lived and worked for a long time in Prague in the 17th century, was one of the leading proponents of the conception of the possibility of topical infinity in the sphere of creation. He explained his concept of this topic or problem in some places of his work Cursus Philosophicus. His explanation underwent criticism by Arriaga's contemporary, the important Portugal theologian and philosopher Franciscus Soares, working in Coimbra and in Evora. The first part of this contribution contains a short overview of the development of views about the infinity in philosophy and theology since antiquity to the beginnings of the mod ern times. In the second part there are summarized the basic thoughts about the infinity in the mentioned Arriaga's work. The third and final part of the contribution deals with Soares' conception of the infinity and the criticism of Arriaga's conception of this problem.
