Sound Material and it´s Meaning for the Evolution of a Play During My Time Ss a Student on KALD
Jacques, Sebastian ; ŠRÁMEK, Vratislav (advisor) ; ADÁMEK, Jiří (referee)
The bachelor thesis Sound material and it´s meaning for the evolution of a play during my time as a student on KALD deals with three plays I have been part of and helped making sound material for. In the first half of the thesis I reflect on this work and in the second part I try to compare my experiences with the help of professional literature and also define my future work as a student of DAMU
Interactive Sound Design
Oramus, Tomáš ; NEUBAUER, Petr (advisor) ; KOPECKÝ, Lubor (referee)
This paper analyzes the potentialities of interactive sound design - especially in computer games. It follows the bachelor thesis "Sound Design in Computer Games", which was aimed at the technical aspects of the process. The goal of this paper is to analyze new approaches and possibilities that come with interactive sound design, as well as the impact of these possibilities on viewers or players.
Have you heard (of) it?
Lapčík, Radim ; KUDLÁČ, Jakub (advisor) ; BAGDASAROV, Georgy (referee)
The goal of this work is to popularize certain sound theory issues (e.g. storytelling, interactivity/immersion, sound/image perspective, semiotics). It deals with the basic sound/image and diegetic/extradiegetic relations, compiling the works of various sound theoreticians. Despite being focused on narrative film, it discusses specific features of four most common semi-narrative genres and gives a hint of sound/image relations in non-narrative and interactive audiovisual media. Apart from the sound/image/diegesis relations, this work briefly explains the synchresis phenomenon and the meaning of tight or loose sound/image synchronicity for tampering with the perspective and perception of the filmic time and space. The appendices contain some information concerning related themes – a short combinatorics column, a column explaining the three basic sound planes, the use of sound as a signifier and a longer quotation of Michel Chion’s article on rendered sound.
Picture - Sound borders
Zavadil, Vojtěch ; ČENĚK, Jan (advisor) ; NEUBAUER, Petr (referee)
This thesis is about possibilities in sound production within audio-vision. Thanks to the experiment, in which five sound designers make five different soundtracks for the same film, there is a pursue to define restrictions for sound design, that comes from the picture itself, and ways, in which we can ifluence the resault just by sound. For this reason, each soundtrack is analyzed and compared.
Introduction to the signal processing in broadcasting chain
Beneš, Filip ; ZIKMUND, Tomáš (advisor) ; URBAN, Ondřej (referee)
The thesis deals with the processing of audio signal for radio and television broadcasting with emphasis on dynamics processing of music audio signal in radio broadcast chain. It deals with the question of modifying in the musical content and also the art work of the sound engineer. The basic dynamics processing, the principle of how the transmission chain works and as a special part the analysis of parts of the broadcasting processor are described here. The thesis offers an insight into individual parts of the processor including a warning about the possibility of their negative influence on the content. The thesis includes the world’s most widespread and in Czech Republic available audio broadcasting platforms. It is accompanied by an illustrative experiment with that compares a music recording before and after both analog and digital broadcasting chain passage pointing out its basic influences.
Contact microphones and their use in film practice
Bláha, Adam ; NEUBAUER, Petr (advisor) ; Titěra, David (referee)
The goal of this thesis is to introduce its reader to the problematics of various types of contact microphones in the field of film production. Rather than on technical specifications, it is focused on practical aspects of their use. It is dealing with specifics of handling such microphones, characteristics of the sounds recorded by them and with the possibilities of their use regarding the dramaturgy of films‘ soundtracks. Practical part of this work contains examples of these sounds as a demonstration of the claims, that I am introducing throughout this text.
Gates - Sound instalation as an intersection of intermedia paradigms
Rataj, Jakub ; BARTOŇ, Hanuš (advisor) ; TROJAN, Jan (referee)
This work treats about the permeation of three spheres (sound instalation, soundscape and physical computing) and their influence for creating a proper piece of art ? sound instalation The Gates. First I treat about the sound instalation from different points of view ? historical context, the work with time, sound and space, technical and visual elaboration. In the end of the first part I describe the concept of my own sound instalation The Gates. In the second part I treat about the concept of soundscape and its influence for selecting the sound material. The last part treats about physical computing as an instrument for the realization of the sound instalation The Gates and as an instrument for enlarging the possibilities of the intermedial synthesis in a more general point of view.
Granular synthesis and its application
Sklenář, André ; URBAN, Ondřej (advisor) ; GUŠTAR, Milan (referee)
This work amis to describe the principles behind granular synthesis, its development history and individual aspects of a granular synthesizer. It aims to familiarize a musician, composer or sound engineer with its details and consolidate the knowledge of a technically knowledgeable music technology user or developer. The work expects the reader to have a basic knowledge of sound physics and its digital representation, aswell as theoretical knowledge of software analysis. The work is divided into two parts. The first part addresses the theoretical properties of granular synthesis and its usage in music history and today. The second part represents a practical example of an application of granular synthesis in the form of a plug-in in several formats and examples of its usage.
Current situation of loudness of sound signals
Kravařík, Jindřich ; URBAN, Ondřej (advisor) ; DVOŘÁK, Aleš (referee)
The topic of this thesis is the permanently worsening situation in the area of loudness and dynamic range of sound signals being delivered to customers, both on classic media and in broadcast. It discusses the reasons and consequences of the current situation. These problems are global and they have impact on every listener and viewer. Extremely varying loudness of broadcast and terrifying state of some records being published at big media houses are a target of complaints for a long time. At the time of writing, solutions to improve the situation are finally emerging. These solutions are evaluated in the last part of this thesis and using them examples of improperly treated dynamics are given.
Radio Imaging
Pokorný, Jaroslav ; PINKAS, Martin (advisor) ; URBAN, Ondřej (referee)
This work deals with the issue of Radio Imaging that is the area of the creation and use of sound effects that identify and brand a particular radio station. The thesis offers classification and systematization of all elements of radio station sound design and covers also the application of these elements in radio broadcasting. The later part of this thesis describes the specific area of creating the sound image of a Czech public radio station oriented on young audience. This part allows me to use my personal insight and practical experience of working for the Czech Radio - Radio Wave. I present my own examples and samples of individual elements of radio sound design. This text also aims to react to a lack of Czech theoretical literature focusing on this area.
