Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) in Engineering Courses at Brno University of Technology

Cílem této bakalářské práce je vymezit koncepci integrované výuky předmětu a cizího jazyka (CLIL) a analyzovat některé faktory, které ovlivňují úspěšnou implementaci CLIL v odborných předmětech na Vysokém učení technickém v Brně. Teoretická část práce diskutuje výhody CLILu, vysvětluje model Coyleové, Hooda a Marshe a popisuje využití různých pedagogických modelů a strategií při integraci této metody do kurikula. Zároveň také předkládá přehled vybraných výzkumných studií zaměřených na využití CLILu, který ukazuje, že CLIL má na univerzitách významný vliv na výuku odborných předmětů prostřednictvím cizího jazyka. Praktická část práce se zabývá výzkumem zaměřeným na aktuální situaci CLILu v odborných předmětech studijního programu Angličtina v elektrotechnice a informatice na Vysokém učení technickém v Brně. Závěrem práce diskutuje výzkumná zjištění vyplývající z dotazníkového šetření mezi učiteli a studenty a navrhuje, jakým způsobem výuku prostřednictvím CLILu zdokonalit.

Possibilities of working memory training and the influence on cognitive functions

ABSTRACT: The topic of the PhD thesis was to explore the possibilities of the cognitive development using the training of the basal functions. The analysis of literature showed that (1) working memory (WM) is considered to be the function, which is frequently associated with higher cognitive processes and (2) core training can improve the WM capacity and this improvement seems to be transferred to other types of memory. The transfer to higher cognitive functions (intelligence) was not confirmed unanimously. Training programs were evaluated usually in different groups of individuals but none of these studies considered the possibility of WM training in context of the socio-cultural handicap, even if low SES children achieve poorer performance in cognitive tests including tests of WM. Therefore the aim of this study was to verify the possibilities of WM training on cognitive development with special interest in low SES children. We designed a 400-minutes WM training PC program, which was applied on two groups of children with different SES (low SES - Roma children, middle/high SES - Czech children). Communication in Educational TV Programs for Children

This bachelor thesis deal with selected aspects of verbal communication in TV educational programs for children aged 4 to 8 years. The aim is to analyse particular programs and to evaluate their adjustment in different areas to young viewers. Sample of the programs Tamtam and Mistr E produced by ČT :D is analyzed. Particular episodes are transcribed by the transcription system of DIALOG corpus. The analysis focus on selected phenomenons of lexicon, phraseology, intertextuality, stylization of speech of particular speakers and establishing contact between participants of the comunnication situation. The results show the programs not always respect development level of the young viewers. This phenomena can be explained by TV producers presumption, that adults and children watch TV together. Teaching English in Preschool Children

This thesis deals with the teaching English in preschool children. The first part of the thesis analyses developmental assumptions of preschool children for learning a foreign language. Moreover, it compares two different views of scientists, Piaget and Vygotskij, on the relationship between development and learning. The second part of the thesis characterizes the best-known methods in language teaching in preschool children in the Czech Republic. All five language schools reported use a direct unwitting method that is successful and natural way of language learning children up to the age of seven years old. The thesis highlights the advantages of each method and presents a concrete example of the use of their combination in practice.
