Experience of psychotherapeutic work with suicidal clients: interpretative phenomenological analysis

1 ABSTRACT The aim of the diploma thesis is to understand the experience of psychotherapeutic work with suicidal clients and to identify key themes related to this phenomenon. The sub- objectives are to map the impact on the personal life of psychotherapists and to evaluate the current system of care provided to suicidal clients in the Czech Republic. The qualitative approach was chosen for the research, and the interpretive phenomenological analysis was used to analyse the data collected through semi-structured interviews. The research sample consists of a total of 6 informants who have completed comprehensive postgraduate psychotherapy training and have worked with at least 5 suicidal clients during their career. The theoretical part discusses the epidemiology of suicidality, protective and risk factors of suicidal behaviour, or existing research and defines terminology together with current legislation. In the empirical part, the results are presented from two perspectives. While the first depicts the experiences of individual research participants, the second presents themes relevant to the experience of psychotherapeutic care with suicidal clients that are common to all research subjects. When analyzing the responses I used qualitative methodology, specifically the Strauss and Corbin's grounded theory. The work is divided into theoretical part and empirical part. The theoretical part describes aspects affecting the therapeutic process, as well as forms of aversive feelings and their possible consequences on the therapeutic relationship. In the empirical part are presented and interpreted data obtained from interviews, which are analyzed. The silence between the psychotherapist and the client

This diploma thesis deals with the silence between the psychotherapist and the client in individual psychotherapy. The study is mainly concerned with the importance of the silence during the process of psychotherapy, especially with the content and the benefit of the silence. In the first part of this thesis the main theoretic recourses which are necessary for understanding the second part of this study are discussed. Particularly this part is engaged in the silence, the psychotherapy, the interpersonal relationship and therapeutic relationship. In this part there is also specified the silence in the interpersonal relationship and the silence between the psychotherapist and the client. The second part of this thesis at first introduces the results of the qualitative research. This research approaches the occurrence and the characteristic of the silence in individual psychotherapy and its relation to the therapeutic relationship by processing of semistructured dialogues with the psychotherapists. This second part also contains the results of the participation of the responsibility for the quality of the silence, the influence of the silence on the result of the psychotherapy and also brings the manual of the successful work with the silence in psychotherapy.
Multidisciplinary approach to clients with schizophrenia

This thesis deals with a multidisciplinary approach to clients suffering from schizophrenia. The main aim is to reflex the multidisciplinary approach to schizophrenic clients, appealing to social work and having respect to ethical principles of participating branches. The work includes chapters that are necessarily coherent to this topic. These are mainly the social work in the context of schizophrenia, specifics of schizophrenia, the structure of the multidisciplinary team, team work and all ethical aspects arising out of team work and individual experts' work. This thesis tries to link up theoretical and practical knowledge, mainly by means of casuistry and practical observations.
