The influence of crude oil price fluctuations on macroeconomic stability in Nigeria
Onome, Nelson
The primary aim of this study is to evaluate the influence of crude oil price fluctuations on macroeconomic stability in Nigeria. The paramount importance of oil in the economic landscape of Nigeria cannot be overstated. Although numerous researchers have conducted studies on the correlation between oil prices and various macroeconomic variables, their outcomes have proven to be debatable and limited to specific countries. The current study's literature review and methodology serve to elucidate these perspectives. Secondary time series data was employed in an Autoregressive distributed Lag Model analysis. Our study revealed that variations in oil prices exert a considerable impact on Nigeria's actual Gross Domestic Product (GDP), unemployment rates, and rates of inflation. Adverse perturbations in the global petroleum market bear noteworthy ramifications on price undulations. The Nigerian economy is characterized by a marked increase in imports, which has unavoidably led to the amplification of inflationary pressures. A noteworthy reduction has been observed in government revenues and expenditures. It is advised that to attain sustainable development in Nigeria, a diversification of the economy and energy sources be pursued. The findings of this study also indicate that unstable oil prices have diverse degrees of detrimental impact on exchange rate fluctuation, inflation, unemployment, and real GDP. Based on the empirical evidence obtained from the conducted study, it is our scholarly recommendation that the nation ought to diversify its income streams. This would serve to mitigate the impact of perturbations in oil prices on the vulnerability of economic conditions. The reduction in undulating oil prices has highlighted the need for Nigeria's economy to explore alternative sources of revenue to minimize the over-reliance on crude oil exports. Avenues of focus for serious policy implementation include the reformation of the agricultural sector, industrial policy strategies, as well as critical investments in mining and mineral development. Such diversification endeavors can potentially drive the nation's economic growth trajectory in the long term. The implementation of this approach is anticipated to facilitate the attainment of sustainable growth and development in Nigeria.

Tongpan, Timothy Yusufu ; Karásek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Solovyeva, Anzhelika (referee)
To assess the effectiveness of deterrence measures, we adopt data from the Global Terrorism Index (GTI). The GTI provides comprehensive assessments of trends and patterns of terrorism across different regions and countries and offers a framework for evaluating the effectiveness of counter- terrorism strategies. Our analysis will evaluate the impact of deterrence measures on reducing terrorist activities in Nigeria and identify the key factors that contribute to the success or failure of deterrence. This study's findings will be of significant interest to policymakers, security experts, and the broader Counter-terrorism has been a critical issue in Nigeria over the last decade, with terrorist groups such as Boko Haram posing a significant threat to the country's security and stability. In response, the Nigerian government has implemented various strategies, including deterrence, to combat this menace. Deterrence refers to the use of measures aimed at discouraging potential terrorists from engaging in violent activities. The effectiveness of deterrence in Nigeria's counter-terrorism strategy between 2009 and 2019, with a case study of Boko Haram, is the focus of this study. The period under review is significant as it marks the rise of Boko Haram and its transformation into a formidable terrorist...
Gender-Based Violence as a Weapon of War: The Case of Boko Haram
Veiglová, Lucie ; Kocmanová, Markéta (advisor) ; Karásek, Tomáš (referee)
Gender-based violence during armed conflicts is not a new phenomenon; it has been present in society for many centuries. It had its greatest impact during the 20th century, when it was just beginning to receive considerable attention not only from scholars but also from the global public. However, attention has focused only on its most well-known and common form - sexual violence. However, it was mainly thanks to the work of feminist scholars that other forms of violence were exposed in the second half of the 20th century, including psychological and physical violence, forced marriages, forced pregnancies or abortions, female genital mutilation, and the use of women as instruments of war and suicide bombers. This thesis examines gender-based violence against women and girls in northeastern Nigeria by Boko Haram. It aims to find out how Boko Haram has affected the level of gender-based violence in the country, whether it has brought about new trends in the phenomenon and how it has affected the lives of women and girls. In doing so, the thesis draws on strategic rape theory and feminist theory, the combination of which provides a framework for explaining gender-based violence by Boko Haram, which both uses women and girls as strategic objects, but moreover is inherently based on a strongly...
The role of foreign direct investment in the economic development of Nigeria
Šikulová, Bára
This study analyzes the impact of foreign direct investment inflow on the economic development of Nigera. The literature review covered the main topics related to the research, such as foreign direct investment, economic development and their relationship, and a comparison of the evolution of the chosen variables in time in Nigeria with the other countries. Annual time series data for the research were obtained from the World Bank database, ranging from 2003 to 2020. As a method of analysis, the ordinary least square (OLS) technique is used to estimate the multivariate regression model, together with the Unit root (ADF) test and Johansen cointegrations test. The dependent variable for the research was Human Development Index (HDI), and the independent variables were Foreign direct investment (FDI), Gross fixed capital formation (GFCF) and Labour force (LF). The results show that while LF has a significant positive impact on HDI, FDI and GFCF have no significant impact on HDI in the analysed period.

1 Annotation The topic of this thesis is the collective memory of the Nigerian Civil War among people living in the Nigerian diaspora in the Irish capital Dublin. The author examines in a sample of 19 people of Nigerian descend how respondents form their individual memories within a broader collective memory in the diaspora. Respondents are divided into groups based on two parameters. Primary data is collected by using the structured interview method with open-ended questions. The method of comparative qualitative content analysis is used to process the data. All the while the author considers the two levels of distinction in the respondent groups. The thesis is theoretically based on theories of memory, specifically collective memory. Igbo national consciousnes
Štěpánková, Hana ; Skupnik, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Chlup, Radek (referee)
Before the direct contact with Europe, the area of present-day south-eastern Nigeria was inhabited by a dispersed population limited to only village or local consciousness but in 1967 representatives of this region declared the independent state of Biafra with the intention to separate from Nigeria which indicates strong collective consciousness. The bearers of this consciousness consider themselves to be Igbo and the collectivity has features of a nation. Therefore it is the Igbo national consciousness I deal with in this thesis. In the theoretical introduction I situate a nation within the sphere of ideas. The historiographic part of the thesis examines how the Igbo nation came into existence. It deals with traditional culture, trade, missionary activity, education, colonial administration, migration, decolonization and politics in independent Nigeria. The second, semiologic part is based on my research among the Igbos in Prague and focuses on the contemporary means for the inter-subjective maintenance of their national consciousness. I try to explain it using a concept of national symbols which can be understood as narratives supporting the idea of continuity, strengthening of borders and assuring the internal homogeneity as distinguished from the external differences.

Eeg-Henriksen, Olav Mikael ; Riegl, Martin (advisor) ; Doboš, Bohumil (referee)
This thesis examines the functioning and implications of the food supply chain on countries food security by investigating one low, one middle, and one high-income country, represented by the Federal Republic of Nigeria, People's Republic of China, and the United State of America. While it is well understood that a high-income country has a more secure food supply chain than a low-income country, the multitude of reasons affecting this difference, and the severity of the difference is less clearly framed in literature. The first part explores and lays out the factors influencing all the key aspects of the food supply chain, and the second part then analyzing the selected countries through those. The third part explores some geopolitical trends of importance to the food supply chain. Through the analysis, the differences between the countries becomes apparent, and the results show a strong difference in food security for low income countries, compared to middle and high-income. The difference between middle and high-income countries is not as prevalent, but still meaningful.
Aspect of Social Integration of Unaccompanied Immigrant Female Minors in Italy: the Case of Nigerian Females
Dvořáčková, Lenka ; Wladyniak, Ludmila Maria (advisor) ; De Oliveira Filho, José Hildo (referee)
This thesis researches aspects of (re)socialization and integration of unaccompanied female minor immigrants in Italy. The thesis aims to present an overview of the immigration situation in Italy. The focus is on Nigerian girls as Nigeria is the country of origin of the majority of unaccompanied female minors hosted in reception centres in Italy. There is a discussion on who these minors are and why they migrated. The theoretical background is based on a theory of Social Integration developed by Bosswick and Hackmann who defined Social Integration as being a four-dimensional process, consisting of structural, cultural, interactive and identificational aspects. This is an ethnographic study and was carried out though the mean of participant observation in a reception centre located in Sicily. The analysis of the field notes was done in accordance with the 4-demnsional model proposed by Bosswick and Hackmann.
