Analysis of the pension system and its comparison between the Czech Republic and other Visegrad Group countries in the period 2004 - 2016
Kissová, Adriana ; Zeman, Martin (advisor) ; Křeček, Štěpán (referee)
Countries of the Visegrad Group implemented a number of parametric and systemic reforms of pension systems between 2004 and 2016. The second pillar of the pension system was abolished in 2016 in the Czech Republic and remaining second pillars were considerably reduced. Not only for these reforms are pension pillars different in these countries. The aim of this thesis is to analyse pension systems of the Visegrad Group countries and to compare the differences between replacement rates by country. The comparison shows that replacement rates are different across selected countries. As the wage increases, the net replacement rate is decreasing for Czech, Slovak and Polish citizens. In the case of Hungary, this claim is not valid. The lowest replacement rates of above-average wages are in the Czech Republic, so it is desirable to support alternative ways of supplementary retirement savings. Based on the findings of the thesis economic and political recommendations are proposed for political elites of these nations.
Comparison of the sickness insurance system in the Czech Republic and in the Kingdom of Spain in the years 2005-2015
Zukal, Marek ; Lukášová, Tereza (advisor) ; Strejček, Ivo (referee)
This bachelor thesis provides an analysis of sickness insurance systems and wage compensation, conditions of obtaining sick benefits and costs related with these issues in the Czech Republic and the Kingdom of Spain. The differences between aforementioned systems emerge from different approach to social policy, the Spanish system is more complicated and based od data quoted it is possible to say that it encumbers public budgets more than the Czech system. Both systems however have the same function - they secure individuals against negative effects of social risks such as illness and maternity (or pregnancy). The Spanish system, generally speaking, fulfils this function better than sickness insurance in the Czech Republic, which is supported by higher compensation ratios of benefits in relation to standard income of individuals, who are provided with them. Sickness insurance in the Czech Republic is characterized by higher rate of solidarity than the system in the Kingdom of Spain, where a principle of equivalence is more widely applied. Since the trend of social costs of public budgets is rising, the subject covered is economically topical and the analysis has a potential to provide incentives to improve the systems.
The construction of a composite indicators and a comparison of living standards of of seniors in Czech Republic and selected OECD countries in 2013
Lukáš, Matěj ; Kotýnková, Magdalena (advisor) ; Řežábek, Pavel (referee)
The aim of this diploma thesis is to create two composite indicators which will provide an informative value about the standard of living of seniors in selected countries of OECD. Using these indicators it will be possible to make a comparison of standards of living on the international level. First of the indicators is Consolidated replacement rate (CRR) which measures income conditions of seniors, which from the economical point of view is considered as the source of standard of living. The construction of CRR is built on theoretical basics from an OECD publication - Pension at Glance 2013. The main component of CRR indicator is a replacement rate which compares income of seniors before and after the retirement. CRR is also composed of two other indicators influencing disposable pension of seniors - imputed rents and services provided by the public sector. The highest values of CRR were reached by Netherlands, Hungary, Iceland and Denmark. On the opposite side the lowest values had countries like Great Britain, Germany and Poland. The reason of this low score for Great Britain and Germany was unavailability of data of private incomes of seniors and therefore it could not be included into CRR. The second constructed indicator is Standard of living of seniors (SLS) which provides a more complex view on the standard of living of seniors using variations of different indicators selected by the author. It includes for example the income situation, risk of poverty and social exclusion or happiness of seniors. Countries with the best values of SLS were Denmark, Netherlands, Iceland and Luxembourg. By far the lowest score was gained by Portugal followed by Estonia, Poland and Greece. In comparison with other countries the Czech Republic was below average among the observed OECD countries with the fifth lowest score of CRR and slightly below average in SLS.
Transformation options for the current Czech pension system, emphasizing the problem of re-distribution rates and long-term sustainability
Fialka, Martin ; Prachař, Ondřej (advisor) ; Maialeh, Robin (referee)
This thesis describes anticipated development of the Czech pension system and the impact of population ageing on future pension benefits. The theoretical part describes the characteristics of the basic pension system models and the current pension system in the Czech Republic. It factors in the current political situation, current policies and debated changes. Using this data, the practical part estimates the future amount of pensioners in upcoming decades. The research results show that the number of pensioners in future decades will be significantly growing. The replacement ratio for future pensioners is decreasing and the average amount of money that Czech citizens are saving up in the III. pillar is insufficient to keep the ratio stable without taking additional measures.

This thesis focuses on the development of pension formula and its detailed analysis for the 1996 -- 2012 time period. The theoretical part describes pension system in general and places the Czech pension system within the systems of other OECD members. In the practical part I analyze specific criteria of the formula and I estimate the impact of these criteria on the size of pension, and which of the criteria add to the solidariy of the pension system.
