Mortgage crisis in USA - reasons and connections

This thesis deals with the matter of mortgage crisis that spread over USA in recent years. First part of this work describes main causes of today's financial crisis, especially changes in legislation and financial derivatives. First chapter is also concerned with providing unsound mortgages, which became the main reason for later banking crisis. Second chapter analyses the matter of financial meltdown in US and problems of certain banks. It also describes weaknesses of financial system and its connection to mortgage backed securities. Final part compares today's crisis with the Great Depression and describes official response to the current crisis.
Exchange rate changes and their impact on financial management of international companies

This thesis deals with selected aspects of financial management of transnational corporations and describes the impact of foreign exchange risk on these companies. The theoretic part of this thesis explains terms like cash pooling, netting and concerns the issue of transfer prices. Furthermore the principles of foreign exchange risk, transaction, economic and translation exposure are defined with focus on financial derivatives that serve as instruments for managing and hedging the risk. The practical part depicts the case study, in which the theoretical knowledge has been applied to a chosen international company.
Hedging with financial derivatives in international business

This diploma thesis deals with hedging with financial derivatives in international business. It is divided into two main parts. The first - theoretical part describes the general definition of the term "derivative" as well as brief history of derivatives. The next part determines derivatives from three key aspects - economic, legal and accounting. The following part deals with statistical methods and the current situation on the derivative markets. The following chapter analyzes the main types of derivatives - forwards, futures, swaps and options as well as examples of their usage. The second part of this work examines the hedging process within the company Med Povrly. Due to its involvement in the international trade with copper, the company is exposed to commodity and exchange-rate risks.
Role finančních derivátů a strukturovaných produktů v subprime krizi 2007

This paper is addressing the topic of financial crises and focuses mainly on the US 2007 subprime mortgage crisis. It examines the causes of the current meltdown and provides an introduction to relevant financial derivatives and structured products in the roots of the crisis (CDS, CDO, MBS, RMBS). The paper describes the period before and during the meltdown, focusing on the instruments' and securitization weaknesses, including their rating assessment and inadequate regulation and impact on reducing the capital cushion in the economy. It also suggests possible solutions to the current financial system shortcomings with the main focus on proper regulation.
Accounting and Appraisement of The Financial Derivatives

My bachelor thesis deals with financial derivatives as assets at fair value through profit and loss, what they are used for and the way of their recording in accounting. The thesis is divided into three parts. In the first theoretic part I describe types of the derivatives individually, especially interest rate and currency contracts. The second part is oriented to the Czech legislation on the derivatives compared to the International Financial Reporting Standards. In the last part I practically demonstrate how to appraise and record currency forward and currency option for the purposes of accounting.
Financial risks management in international business

The financial risks which are faced by companies in international business are defined in the theoretical part of the graduation thesis. The second chapter presents particular methods of credit risks management. The principles of financial derivatives, the motivation of derivatives trading and their brief history is approached in the third chapter. The last two chapters focus on practical example. The corporation Czech airlines, Inc. is presented in the fourth chapter. In the last fifth chapter the concrete used methods of financial risks management are defined.

The aim of the final thesis is to analyze the risk of trading with financial derivatives. The theoretical part generally describes characteristics of financial derivatives and their use. Practical part illustrates the risk of trading with financial derivatives by analyzing the bankruptcy of Barings Bank and Long-term Capital Management.
Foreign exchange risk management in the company IMP Jablonec

The diploma paper offers a complex view on hedging of a foreign exchange risk in a concrete company, which is highly dependent on export. Preliminary theoretical part sums up all the possibilities how to avoid risk, including hedging or financial derivatives. Specific attention is paid to in practise always more popular option strategies. Practical part then try to apply all the acquired knowledge on a concrete company. After the complex analysis of revenues and expenditures is presented analysis and evaluation of the whole hedging strategy.

This thesis describes hedging transactions against foreign exchange rate risk which is a significant problem for a number of domestic companies trading with foreign partners. The objective of this paper is to characterize possible ways to eliminate or minimize a foreign exchange rate risk and to assess effects on economic results and liquidity of the company arising from the use of hedging instruments compared to the situation without hedging transactions. The practical analysis is shown on two Czech companies exposed to a foreign exchange rate risk. The analysis is focused on currency forwards negotiated with the bank and natural hedging in connection with an application of a hedge accounting.

Financial derivatives have been constituting one of the most dynamic fields in the mathematical finance. The main task is represented by the valuation or pricing of these instruments. This theses deals with standard models and their limits, tries to explore advanced methods of continuous martingale measures and on their bases proposes numerical methods applicable to derivatives valuation. Some procedures leading to elimination of certain simplifying assumptions are presented as well.
