Mathematical modelling of air-flow in geometrically complicated areas
Fuka, Vladimír ; Brechler, Josef (advisor) ; Fürst, Jiří (referee) ; Jaňour, Zbyněk (referee)
The Charles University Large-eddy Microscale Model (CLMM) and its application are presented. It is a numerical model for simulation of turbulent flow and dispersion in the planetary boundary layer. CLMM solves the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in the Boussinesq approximation and describes turbulence using the large eddy simulation. Three applications of the model are presented. In the first case, the model is applied to the stable boundary layer over a flat terrain. The second case presents the simulations of stably stratified flows over obstacles. The last case deals with the dispersion of a hazardous material within an urban canopy. It was performed in the frame of the COST Action ES1006 and uses the Michelstadt flow and dispersion dataset for model validation.
Simulation of thermally activated foundation structures of buildings
Sliva, Matěj ; Adam, Pavel (referee) ; Šikula, Ondřej (advisor)
Diploma thesis deals with geothermal foundations. The aim of the thesis is to find optimal way of pipe winding for heat-carrying liquid in foundation piles. The problem is solved by CFD simulations in ANSYS Fluent. Determinative parameters like the pressure loss, heat fluxes and U-value in one pile circuit with two ways of pipe installations – Single coil, where reverse pipe is led in the middle of pile and Duplex Coil with reverse pipe in spiral shape are observed.
Advanced computational methods for combustion of solid fuels
Strouhal, Jiří ; Vondál, Jiří (referee) ; Juřena, Tomáš (advisor)
The aim of this thesis was to create a model of thermal conversion of solid fuel. This is achieved by means of standard modelling tools included in software ANSYS Fluent in combination with user-defined functions (UDF). In first part of thesis basic approaches to CFD modelling of solid fuel combustion are presented. Building of a mathematical model and corresponding algorithms follows. Individual parts of a created model and its parts are tested on simple physical cases and then on case of experimental reactor for analysing biomass combustion.
CFD simulation of fluid-induced vibration
Kubíček, Radek ; Vondál, Jiří (referee) ; Buzík, Jiří (advisor)
The presented diploma thesis focuses on flow-induced vibrations of a tube. The main aim and benefit is the analysis of tube stiffness in contact with the other one and the following use of obtained values and characteristics in CFD simulations. The work can be divided into three parts. The first part is about the current state of knowledge of flow-induced vibrations. It introduces the basic mechanisms of vibration and methods for their suppression. The second part deals with the determination of stiffness of defined geometry tube including the collision with the other tube. The final part demonstrates and evaluates the application of obtained characteristics in CFD simulations.
Check valve
Nehybová, Petra ; Závorka, Dalibor (referee) ; Klas, Roman (advisor)
In this Master thesis are mentioned the most used constructions of non-return valves. Further consist of operation principles, fields of application, properties and diffi-culties connected to non-return valves. Motion plug of check valve in liquid is described based on CFD Software simulation.
Study of Inertial Particle Separator in a typical turboprop engine
Skála, Adam ; Doupník, Petr (referee) ; Popela, Robert (advisor)
This thesis focuses on ingestion of foreign objects into standard turboprop engine GE H80 situated in aircraft Let L-410 Turbolet. Aim of this study is to create methodology of numerical simulation of particle movement inside the engine, which could be used during design process of Inertial Particle Separator device. Thesis consists of backward-facing step benchmark study which validates used methodology. Second part describes flow field calculation and numerical setup. The last part is dedicated to particle tracking analysis. Simulated trajectories are visually investigated, and coordinates of particle impacts at 1st rotor of a compressor are correlated to position of real observed damage.
Simplified flow distribution modelling
Optimization of nozzles for firefighter sport
Páral, Filip ; Klas, Roman (referee) ; Fialová, Simona (advisor)
This thesis deals with flow inside of the firesport nozzles. Those are used for a fire attack, one of the firesport disciplines. The research part of this thesis introduces a fire attack, commonly used equipment and hydraulic losses that occur during the flow. This part also consists of an overview of current firefighting and firesport nozzles. It includes requirements for nozzles that are used in the fire attack discipline. Second part of the thesis presents the flow analysis inside firesport nozzles using commercial software for computational fluid dynamics (CFD), ANSYS Fluent. Several nozzle designs are proposed at the end of this thesis, based on conclusions from previous part. These designs satisfy firesport nozzle requirements, previously stated in this thesis.
Model order reduction technique for large scale flow computations
Isoz, Martin
Current progress in numerical methods and available computational power combined with industrial needs promote the development of more and more complex models. However, such models are, due to their complexity, expensive from the point of view of the data storage and the time necessary for their evaluation. The model order reduction (MOR) seeks to reduce the computational complexity of large scale models. We present an application of MOR to the problems originating in the finite volume (FV) discretization of incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. Our approach to MOR is based on the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD)\nwith Galerkin projection. Moreover, the problems arising from the nonlinearities present in the original model are adressed within the framework of the discrete empirical interpolation method (DEIM). We provide a link between the POD-DEIM based MOR and OpenFOAM, which is an open-source CFD toolbox capable of solving even industrial scale problems. The availability of a link between OpenFOAM and POD-DEIM based MOR enables a direct order reduction for large scale systems originating in the industrial practice.
Solution of the unsteady motion of the body in the liquid flow
Zbavitel, Jan ; Kozák, Jiří (referee) ; Fialová, Simona (advisor)
The thesis deals with CFD solution of flow through mechanical heart valves. The opening part includes a research on the negative impacts of implantation of artificial heart valves and the common approaches used in their modeling. This is followed by a detailed analysis of the dynamic mesh functionality and CFD solution is performed using the open-source library FOAM-extend. Part of the thesis focuses on evaluation of the geometry modifications from the perspective of forming the instabilities of the current and the course of force effects on the valve.
